Line of Duty's Martin Compston joins ITV's most unmissable tense 2024 drama, see first look of new season
Last year, Red Eye was hands down one of our favourite shows and now it's just been confirmed Line of Duty's Martin Compston will be heading up the cast for season two.
Released in April 2024, the dramatic ITV thriller saw Richard Armitage star as Dr Matthew Nolan, a British expat who is extradited back to China on murder charges. The majority of the series takes place on a plane, with Detective Hana Li (Jing Lusi) brought onto the plane to oversee Nolan's transfer.
Despite a somewhat happy ending, Richard Armitage won't be back for another season, instead we'll see Compston working alongside Detective Li in a yet undisclosed role.
While we don't know too much about his character yet, we have had a first look image released. In the image Compston stands side by side with Lusi, and he's wearing a black coat over grey trousers and a white shirt.
The image was shared on ITV's Instagram and is captioned: "Sneak peek of Red Eye series 2 🎬. Jing Lusi is back, joined by Martin Compston to solve a new high-stakes conspiracy ✈️."

While the photo doesn't give much away about his role it does appear he'll be working alongside Detective Li to solve the new conspiracy.
And it's safe to say fans are very happy to see Martin be involved in the second season, with one Instagram commenter writing: "Yay, loved the first series. Even better Martin's in the next one!" While another said: "Oh interesting 🤔 looking forward to seeing 👀 Red 👁." And another added: "The first series was great can't wait for the next series specially with Martin Compston 🔥."
Though Richard Armitage isn't set to return, the rest of the main cast including Lesley Sharp as Madeline Delaney and Jemma Moore as Jess Li, Hana's sister and a journalist are making a comeback.
As for the release date, the series is currently in production so we'll be waiting a while to see it on our screens.

Documentary celebrates success of Welsh cycling hero Emma Finucane
A documentary has been made about the young life and meteoric rise of Welsh cyclist and Olympic hero Emma Finucane. The cycling star, 22, made history in Paris last summer when she became the first British woman in 60 years to win three medals at the same Olympic Games and the first Welsh athlete to ever achieve that feat. The Paris Olympics was not the Carmarthen cyclist's first taste of success by a long shot - in 2022 she came home from the Commonwealth Games having won two bronze medals for Wales, while in 2023 she won a gold medal at the World Championships in Glasgow, a feat she repeated last year at the 2024 championships in Denmark. It's all a far cry from when Finucane used to whizz around the historic velodrome at Carmarthen Park as a young girl with Towy Riders cycle club, a group which is still going strong today. Stay informed on Carms news by signing up to our newsletter here. READ MORE: Man dies in Cardiff city centre READ MORE: Two arrests after fatal quadbike crash on A465 Heads of the Valleys road Now, a Cardiff-based student has made a 'powerful short documentary' capturing Finucane's rise to the top of world cycling. The film - Pedal to Paris: The Emma Finucane Story - has been created by Cameron Hitt, who is studying a sports broadcast masters degree at Cardiff Metropolitan University. It will premiere at Nantgaredig Rugby Club, in partnership with Towy Riders, on Monday (June 2). The film will then be made publicly available the following day, on Tuesday, June 3. We caught up with Finucane at Carmarthen Park last year, just weeks after she returned home from Paris with three Olympic medals around her neck. 'I remember, when I was seven years old, coming here with my brother and sister,' she said. 'We lived just across the road. I would go round and round the track on my little pink bike with tassels on it. That was it - I was hooked.' On her success, she said: 'It has changed my life. I'm still the same old Emma, but you are kind of in a bubble at the Olympics so you don't really see what's going on around you. "But then you come back home and I've been asked for pictures in Tesco a couple of times and people say: 'Ooh, I've seen you on the telly!' 'I love it. I love being home and coming back to see everyone. I'm very honoured to be asked to attend events. I don't come home often and to be recognised for what I've done at the Olympics is amazing. 'As athletes we obviously have our own ambitions in terms of winning but I want people to watch us and get on their bikes. I want to inspire people to get out there and cycle - it's a healthy way of life. "Sport is amazing, it gives you energy, and I want to use my platform to help young girls and boys get into sprint cycling.'

Carole King praises inspirational Taylor Swift
Carole King has praised Taylor Swift as an inspiration. The 'Cruel Summer' hitmaker revealed on Friday (30.05.25) that she had regained control of the rights to all the songs from her early albums, 'Taylor Swift', 'Fearless', 'Speak Now', 'Red', '1989' and 'Reputation', and the 83-year-old singer-songwriter has joined Taylor in celebrating the milestone. Carole shared the announcement on her Instagram Story and over a photo of Taylor raising her hands in celebration, she wrote: 'You continue to inspire! [heart, heart hands and music notes emojis] (sic)" Taylor was furious in 2019 when music manager Scooter Braun bought her former label, Big Machine Records, and her master recordings, which he then sold on to Shamrock Capital in 2020, prompting her to re-record and release 'Taylor's Versions' of 'Fearless', 'Speak Now', 'Red', and '1999'. But on Friday, the 35-year-old pop star shared with fans the news she had reaquired the rights to her records. She shared in an emotional post on her website 'I'm trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow. A flashback sequence of all the times I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell you this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close , reaching out for it, only for it to fall through. I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled then yanked away. But that's all in the past now. 'I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I've ever made... now belongs... to me. And all my music videos. All the concert films. The album art and photography. The unreleased songs. The memories. The magic. The madness. Every single era. My entire life's work." Taylor went on to add that buying back the rights was her 'greatest dream come true' and she praised those at investment firm Shamrock Capital for offering her the opportunity. The 'Bad Blood' singer has been a fan of Carole for many years, and in 2021, she introduced the 'Where You Lead' musician for her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She said: "I cannot remember a time when I didn't know Carole King's music. 'I was raised by two of her biggest fans, who taught me the basic truths of life as they saw it: That you should treat people the way you want to be treated, that you must believe you can achieve whatever you want to in life and that Carole King is the greatest songwriter of all time... 'Carole taught artists like me that telling your own story is worth the work and struggle it takes to earn the opportunity for your story to be heard."
