The Outer Worlds 2, the most expensive Xbox game yet
I loved The Outer Worlds, which was jam-packed with the kind of wry, sardonic humour you'd expect from an Obsidian RPG (this is the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, after all). Its super-saturated space world, populated by colourful flora, bumbling corporations and strange zealots, was a joy to live in for 20 or so hours, though its combat left much to be desired.
According to game director Brandon Adler, Obsidian knew The Outer Worlds' gunplay needed improvement even before the game launched, and especially if they developed a sequel. 'We did a full breakdown on Destiny, because we love how that felt,' he says during an interview held after an Outer Worlds 2 demo in Los Angeles. 'We also talked to the Halo folks … They gave us a huge list of stuff and said, 'You guys should target this … you should add that to your weapon configurations.''
Obsidian's research has paid off: not only are there more weapons to play with in The Outer Worlds 2, but they all feel good to fire, and offer a variety of combat options depending upon the encounter (and that's if you want to fight, as a solid stealth approach will let you creep through rooms of foes without a trace). In the original game, I'd simply avoid large-scale combat, or preemptively sigh before getting into a firefight because the gunplay just wasn't enjoyable. That has changed in the sequel – I relished each encounter, giggling manically as I hucked grenades and dropped down from above to take out a target.
'We didn't want small changes. Every weapon feels very different; every weapon has a cool, unique purpose,' Adler says. 'You can even take those weapons and add mods on to them to do all kinds of crazy things.'

And with an updated game engine (Unreal Engine 5) and the capabilities of current-gen hardware (The Outer Worlds released on the Xbox One), expect The Outer Worlds 2 to feel bigger than before. Entering buildings no longer requires a loading screen that can take players out of the fantasy, for instance. 'Little things like that give a big, immense feel,' Adler says. 'Exploration is probably the thing that's most important to me. I want the players as they're going through this big world to feel like they should go to every nook and cranny and open every door and go behind every little thing, because it's always gonna be a cool, fun thing for them to find.'
The Outer Worlds 2 offers a larger world, improved combat and even more customisation options that deepen its role-playing features (such as more perks and flaws for your character, which can drastically change how you play). Though Adler declines to comment on the $80 price tag, it's clear that this sequel justifies itself.
The Outer Worlds 2 is released on 29 October for Xbox, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Iconic heavy metal rocker dead at 51
Brent Hinds, the former singer-guitarist for the Grammy-winning heavy metal band Mastodon, has died in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta aged 51. Hinds, who left Mastodon after 25 years in March 2025, was killed on Wednesday when his Harley-Davidson collided with a BMW SUV around 11.35pm per Atlanta News First. The Atlanta Police Department said in a report the driver of the SUV failed to yield while making a turn - with Hinds found 'unresponsive' at the scene and later pronounced dead by medics. 'The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased' the report states. 'The other driver involved, a female who occupied a BMW SUV remained on scene. The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances. 'Preliminary investigation indicates the male was traveling West on Boulevard. The female operating the BMW SUV failed to yield while turning left and collided into the male victim who was operating the Harley Davidson. The investigation remains active at this time.' The band paid an emotional tribute to Hinds in an Instagram statement which read: 'We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. 'We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. 'Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time. RIP Brent.' Mastodon had three albums rise into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart and two that topped the Rock Album chart - Emperor of Sand in 2017 and Once More ´round the Sun in 2014. Hinds left the band in March 2025. No reason for the departure was given. The band said they had 'mutually decided to part ways,' but comments made by Hinds on Instagram indicated a rocky relationship with the members of his former band. 'We´re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we´ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,' the band said at the time.

Apple Wellness boss behind iconic invention sickened underlings with leering and screaming, lawsuit alleges
An Apple executive has been accused of harboring a 'toxic work environment' by a slew of employees. Fitness guru Jay Blahnik masterminded the company's fitness subscriptions while berating and harassing his employees, according to nine current and former workers. Blahnik, the company's Vice President of Fitness Technologies, was verbally abusive, manipulative and inappropriate towards them, they claim. The group spoke with The New York Times, saying his behavior forced over 10 colleagues to seek out extended periods of medical absence. The report claims that Apple set out to protect Blahnik after employees confronted higher ups with his alleged behavior via an investigation. The company had settled with one complaint accusing him of sexual harassment and are still in litigation with employee Mandana Mofidi, 41. According to Mofidi, Blahnik bullied her. Blahnik however was cleared by an internal investigation that found no evidence of wrongdoing, according to Mofidi's lawsuit. The employees said the company sought to protect a well known face and star exec rather than address their concerns. Blahnik also became known as the creator of the Apple Watch's signature fitness feature, three circular bands indicating what a person should complete throughout the day Kayla Desautels told the outlet: 'At the end of the day, we don't matter', she left last year after a period of time off due to her mental health. According to Desautels, she had 'never worked anywhere more toxic' than alongside Blahnik. In a legal filing seen by the outlet, Apple has denied that there had been any type of harassment or harm on Blahnik's behalf. It added that Mofidi had 'received constructive feedback and coaching from her supervisors in response to a history of unresolved performance issues.' According to the employees who spoke with the outlet, Blahnik was prone to making inappropriate comments. At a meeting with Olympic skier Ted Ligety, it is alleged that he joked with employees about sleeping with the skier, two people told the outlet. Mofidi, who was not involved with that particular project, was told he that Blahnik had suggested a member of the team got Ligety on board after offering him a massage. It is also claimed that he would speak about the breasts and rear ends of trainers filming workouts for the subscription. He is also alleged to have said in front of other employees that the wife of one of the managers must have had an affair because their son had a different hair color. The employees who mentioned this comment, including Mofidi, said that he used a 'vulgar' remark when doing so. Blahnik would also compliment the way creative director Wil Tidman dressed, and joked that he was having an affair with a male producer, employees claimed. Tidman told employees that in the summer of 2022 Blahnik had text him something that he considered 'inappropriate and unsettling'. It is unclear what the text said. Not long after that message, Tidman went on medical leave, according to Mofidi's lawsuit. Tidman lawyered up and raised an allegation of harassment. According to the outlet he didn't file a suit but reached a settlement with Apple over the text. Mofidi had joined Apple in 2021 to take charge over its audio efforts, Blahnik noted in her first review that her first year was marked with 'significant achievement', her suit says. In that review Mofidi raised concerns that she had received less of a pay rise than her male colleagues, her lawsuit claims. The next day she was pulled in to speak with investigators to determine if Blahnik had harassed Tidman, she claims. She excused herself, telling the Times: 'I was aware of his behavior, his vindictiveness. I was nervous.' Mofidi claims he then later started shouting at her while on a call with a freelancer, which she said started 'this whole campaign'. Following this, Mofidi claims people working closely with Blahnik started criticizing her in emails, she claims this was an effort to create a record and have her sacked. She added: 'The whole experience was incredibly isolating, humiliating - honestly, scary.' In April 2023 she was given an ultimatum, she could take a buyout or work on her performance, the lawsuit said. She then approached the HR division in the company claiming she had been targeted after raising concerns about unequal pay. As HR investigated, Mofidi said she was told she would not be harassed further but the retaliation continued. She was put on medical leave after suffering from anxiety and depression, her suit said. After her leave ended she asked to be moved department which was knocked back, leading her to resign. She is to go on trial over her suit in 2027. According to the Obama Foundation, Blahnik and his husband Ryan pledged between $100,000 to $249,999 to the organization. The couple reside in a Santa Monica townhouse worth just under $4 million dollars, according to property records. Blahnik became known as the creator of the Apple Watch's signature fitness feature, three circular bands indicating what a person should complete throughout the day. Besides his work with Apple, he had previously helped launch the Nike Training Club and also consulted for ritzy gym Equinox known for its celebrity clientele. In a statement to Daily Mail, an Apple spokesperson said: 'We strongly disagree with the premise of this story and there are many inaccurate claims and mischaracterizations. 'We are and have always been deeply committed to creating and maintaining a positive and inclusive workplace. 'We take all concerns seriously and we thoroughly investigate whenever a concern is raised and, out of respect for the privacy of any individuals involved, we do not discuss specific employee matters. We will continue to share the facts through the legal process.'
