The Outer Worlds 2, the most expensive Xbox game yet
The Outer Worlds 2, from RPG makers Obsidian, will be the first first-party Xbox game to cost $80 (£70). Given that Nintendo Switch 2 games are already priced at least that high, and Sony's own PlayStation 5 games have been pushing towards it for a while, you might not expect this development to ignite a pricing debate among gamers – but it did. The increased cost of video games is a hotly contested topic, given the unsustainably ballooning budgets that most blockbuster games are working with these days. But I can say that The Outer Worlds 2 is a much larger, more in-depth game than the 2019 comedy sci-fi original. If we're going to talk about value, it can certainly be argued that its higher price point is justified.
I loved The Outer Worlds, which was jam-packed with the kind of wry, sardonic humour you'd expect from an Obsidian RPG (this is the studio behind Fallout: New Vegas, after all). Its super-saturated space world, populated by colourful flora, bumbling corporations and strange zealots, was a joy to live in for 20 or so hours, though its combat left much to be desired.
According to game director Brandon Adler, Obsidian knew The Outer Worlds' gunplay needed improvement even before the game launched, and especially if they developed a sequel. 'We did a full breakdown on Destiny, because we love how that felt,' he says during an interview held after an Outer Worlds 2 demo in Los Angeles. 'We also talked to the Halo folks … They gave us a huge list of stuff and said, 'You guys should target this … you should add that to your weapon configurations.''
Obsidian's research has paid off: not only are there more weapons to play with in The Outer Worlds 2, but they all feel good to fire, and offer a variety of combat options depending upon the encounter (and that's if you want to fight, as a solid stealth approach will let you creep through rooms of foes without a trace). In the original game, I'd simply avoid large-scale combat, or preemptively sigh before getting into a firefight because the gunplay just wasn't enjoyable. That has changed in the sequel – I relished each encounter, giggling manically as I hucked grenades and dropped down from above to take out a target.
'We didn't want small changes. Every weapon feels very different; every weapon has a cool, unique purpose,' Adler says. 'You can even take those weapons and add mods on to them to do all kinds of crazy things.'

And with an updated game engine (Unreal Engine 5) and the capabilities of current-gen hardware (The Outer Worlds released on the Xbox One), expect The Outer Worlds 2 to feel bigger than before. Entering buildings no longer requires a loading screen that can take players out of the fantasy, for instance. 'Little things like that give a big, immense feel,' Adler says. 'Exploration is probably the thing that's most important to me. I want the players as they're going through this big world to feel like they should go to every nook and cranny and open every door and go behind every little thing, because it's always gonna be a cool, fun thing for them to find.'
The Outer Worlds 2 offers a larger world, improved combat and even more customisation options that deepen its role-playing features (such as more perks and flaws for your character, which can drastically change how you play). Though Adler declines to comment on the $80 price tag, it's clear that this sequel justifies itself.
The Outer Worlds 2 is released on 29 October for Xbox, PlayStation 5 and PC.

Jake Paul storms out of Piers Morgan interview in heated clash
Jake Paul angrily stormed off an interview with Piers Morgan following a heated exchange. The YouTube star, who is due to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Anaheim on Saturday (28 June), was confronted by Morgan over his boxing credentials. Paul said: 'I think the problem here Piers is that you think your opinion matters.' Morgan continued: 'The only proper boxer you fought was Tommy Fury and he beat you. Pete Tyson you wouldn't have lasted 10 seconds.' The 28-year-old then hung up the call, as a bemused Morgan said: 'Cheers Jake, really enjoyed that, and good luck to Julio - knock him out for all of us will you?'

Brad Pitt's $5.5m Hollywood house ransacked by burglars
The Los Angeles home of Brad Pitt has been 'ransacked' by thieves who scaled his fence and broke in through the front window. Pitt, who was in London earlier this week to promote his new F1 film, was not at the three-bedroom house at the time of the burglary late on Wednesday night, according to US media reports. Police are searching for three suspects who fled the scene with 'miscellaneous property', the Los Angeles police department said. The force confirmed they responded to a break-in at about 10.30pm but did not provide any information about the nature or value of the items taken. Pitt bought the property on North Edgemont Street in LA's Los Feliz neighbourhood for $5.5 million in April 2023, according to Traded, a commercial real estate website. It is close to Griffith Park, home of the Hollywood Sign and the Griffith Observatory. The actor has become the latest Hollywood star to be targeted by thieves in LA. On Valentine's Day a burglar broke into the home that Nicole Kidman shares with Keith Urban, the country music singer, in the Hidden Valley gated community of Beverly Hills. The couple were not at home at the time. Thieves also stole about $500,000 worth of expensive watches and other luxury items from the home of Olivier Giroud, the World Cup-winning French footballer who plays for Los Angeles FC. Several US sports stars, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, have also been the victims of break-ins in recent years. Some of the thefts are believed to be linked to organised gangs from South America. The FBI issued a warning to US sports leagues in December that crime groups were targeting homes looking for valuables such as designer handbags, jewellery and watches. The homes of at least nine professional athletes were targeted between September and November 2024. The home of Pitt's ex-wife Jennifer Aniston, the Friends actress, was also damaged last month when an alleged stalker rammed through the gate of her Bel Air mansion. Pitt attended the London premiere of F1: The Movie on Monday night with his girlfriend Ines de Ramon and was pictured embracing his fellow A-lister Tom Cruise, as well as posing with the cast next to Sir Lewis Hamilton. In the film he plays a veteran driver, Sonny Hayes, who competes against younger rivals in Grand Prix races around the world. A representative for Pitt declined to comment about the burglary.

Singer Rebekah Del Rio who appeared in hit thriller Mulholland Drive dies at 57 as body found at home
THE singer Rebekah Del Rio, who was best known for her performance of Llorando in the thriller movie Mulholland Drive has died. Del Rio's body was found at her Los Angeles home on June 23. 2 The 57-year-old's cause of death remains unknown, as reported by Variety. Del Rio made a cameo appearance in the film and was part of a scene shot at the Club Silencio in Los Angeles. In the scene, she belted out the Spanish-language track, which is known as "Crying" in English, before collapsing on the ground. She was carried out of the theater but she continued singing. Del Rio later revealed she sung the track, rather than lip-synced, according to Indie Wire. 'Because I am a natural-born singer, and I don't know how to lip-sync, I sang along for every take of that scene,' she told the outlet. 'I've seen lip-syncing in a lot of films and television and have noticed the vibrato in their throats is not moving. 'It's pretty apparent that they're not really singing.' Del Rio revealed it took several takes to shoot the scene, and didn't lip sync on any occasion. Fans on X have claimed the scene is perhaps the "greatest" in cinematic history. Del Rio also performed at a Mulholland Drive charity event. Naomi Watts and Justin Theroux also starred in Mulholland Drive, directed by David Lynch. The movie was nominated for four Golden Globes in 2001, including Best Picture (Drama), Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Score. Watts won the best actress award at the National Society of Film Critics for her performance as Betty Elms and Diane Selwyn. Lynch picked up the Best Director gong at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, and he was nominated for an Oscar. Del Rio also appeared in the comedy thriller Southland Tales and performed the US national anthem. She also performed the track No Stars in Twin Peaks The Return. Del Rio's death comes more than 15 years after her son, Phillip DeMars, passed in 2009. .
