SAD to intensify agitation against Punjab govts land pooling scheme
A resolution to this effect was passed at a meeting of the party's core committee here which was presided over by SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
The resolution declared, among other things, that the next dharna against this scheme will be held at Bathinda on August 4 and Patiala on August 11 to be followed by similar protests at all other district headquarters.
Earlier on Monday, the SAD chief at a dharna in Mohali called the land pooling scheme a 'land grabbing scheme".
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has been facing flak from the opposition parties, which dubbed its land pooling policy a 'looting" scheme to 'rob" the farmers of their land.
The AAP has out at the opposition parties for spreading misleading propaganda against the state government's land pooling policy, with party leaders describing it as 'farmer-friendly".
The Punjab Cabinet had last month given its nod to the land pooling policy and asserted that not a single yard would be forcibly acquired from the landowners.
Under the land pooling policy, an owner will be given a 1000 square yards of residential plot and a 200 square yards of commercial plot in fully developed land in lieu of one acre of land, the state government had said.
After clearing the policy last month, the government had said that it was designed to foster transparent and planned urban development across the state.
Meanwhile, Badal before the core committee meeting flagged off the SAD's statewide campaign, 'Proud to be Akali" (Mainu Maan Akali Hon Te) by releasing and pasting stickers on the party workers' vehicles and also releasing flags to be hoisted on homes of all workers and supporters. PTI SUN AS AS

Delhi MLAs told to give all notices digitally as Assembly goes paperless
Agency: New Delhi, Jul 30 (PTI) MLAs wishing to raise issues under Special Mention in the Delhi Assembly will now have to submit their notices through the National e-Vidhan portal as the House goes paperless from the Monsoon session commencing on August 4, officials said on Tuesday. This will be the third session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. According to the schedule announced by Speaker Vijender Gupta, the sittings of the House are tentatively fixed from August 4 to 8. However, depending on the exigencies, the session may be extended beyond these dates, the statement said. Each sitting of the House will begin at 2 pm and continue until the scheduled business is concluded for the day. The speaker has directed that the members intending to raise matters under Rule 280 (Special Mention) must submit their notices exclusively through the NeVA Portal ( by 5 pm on the working day before the intended date, it said. A balloting process to determine the inter se priority of the first 10 notices will be held at 11 am in the secretary's room on the respective day. All notices, including Questions and Resolutions, shall be submitted only through the NeVA Portal, it said. Fish Importers Seek Hilsa From Bangladesh Ahead Of Durga Puja, Urge Policy Reforms

In a letter addressed to the foreign affairs adviser of Bangladesh, the Fish Importers' Association (Kolkata) has urged the government to grant permission for Hilsa exports, highlighting the festival's cultural and culinary importance. The letter also outlines several challenges faced in previous years and proposes policy changes to ensure smoother trade. Speaking to News18, Anwar Maksud, president of the association, said: 'We are trying our level best to bring Bangladeshi Hilsa to Indian markets this year. As always, the demand during Durga Puja is immense." The letter notes that while export permits are typically issued ahead of the festival, the full quantity sanctioned is rarely exported. The reasons cited include a short export window (usually 30–45 days), which is insufficient to handle large volumes, as well as the fact that many permit holders are not directly involved in the fish trade and often acquire licenses as political favours or to sell them to actual exporters, creating bottlenecks in the process. Data from the past six years shows a consistent shortfall in actual exports, with only 15–25 per cent of the permitted quantity being exported in 2023 and 2024.
