Gold prices experienced a significant rise on Thursday rebounding strongly after a slight dip the previous day.
Globally, the price of gold also saw an upward trend in the international bullion market, with the per ounce rate rising by $25, reaching $2,913.
According to the Sarafa Association, the price of per tola gold surged by Rs2,500, reaching Rs304,000, while the price of 10 grams increased by Rs2,144, bringing it to Rs260,631 in the local market.
In addition to gold, silver prices in Pakistan also experienced a rise. The per tola rate increased by Rs55 to reach Rs3,367, while the price of 10 grams went up by Rs47, standing at Rs2,886.
Gold rose on Thursday, supported by a weaker U.S. dollar and growing worries over U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans, which could heighten global trade tensions, while investors eyed another set of inflation data.
Spot gold added 0.3% to $2,913.38 per ounce as of 0935 GMT, moving back towards its record peak of $2,942.70 hit on Tuesday. U.S. gold futures firmed 0.4% to $2,940.90.

On Wednesday, gold prices fell more than 1% after stronger-than-expected US consumer price index for January, but rebounded later as ongoing trade war uncertainties kept the safe-haven metal's demand intact.
Trump announced plans to impose reciprocal tariffs on countries that levy duties on US imports, expected Wednesday or Thursday.
"Trump is unpredictable and, as long as uncertainty remains in the market, gold will continue to receive support," said Ajay Kedia, director at Kedia Commodities, Mumbai.
"Overall, the dollar index is currently under pressure, which has been supportive for gold."
The dollar index fell 0.2%, making greenback-priced gold less expensive for foreign buyers.
Investors are now focussed on the U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) data due at 1330 GMT, followed by Friday's retail sales report, for further economic clues.
Meanwhile, Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, at his second congressional hearing this week, reiterated that the central bank was in no rush to cut interest rates.
"Market is convinced that there is very limited room for the Fed to ease; Fed funds futures trimmed rate cut expectation to 29bps for this year, with the chance of a 25bp cut priced at 78% by September and at 94% by October," OCBC analysts said.
Wall Street's main index is closed mostly lower on Wednesday,00:0301:46
Bullion is seen as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainties, but higher interest rates tarnish the non-yielding asset's allure.
ANZ expects gold to touch a record high of $3,000 per ounce in 2025.
Spot silver was steady at $32.23 per ounce and platinum was flat at $991.65. Palladium firmed 0.5% to $978.46.

Oil little changed as investors await next steps in Ukraine peace talks

SINGAPORE: Oil prices were little changed on Wednesday as investors await the next steps in talks to end Russia's invasion of Ukraine, leaving in place sanctions on Russian crude and the chance of further restrictions on its buyers. Brent crude futures were at $65.90 a barrel, up 11 cents, at 0405 GMT. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures for September delivery, set to expire on Wednesday, were at $62.40 a barrel, up 5 cents. The more-active October contract was at $61.90 a barrel, up 13 cents. Prices settled down more than 1% on Tuesday on optimism a deal to end the war seemed closer, which would mean the easing sanctions on Russia and an increase in global supply. 'Crude markets are in limbo… continued protracted peace talks will keep the market on its toes,' said Emril Jamil, a senior analyst at LSEG. Despite comments from U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday the U.S. might provide air support as part of a deal to end Russia's war in the country, he also conceded Russian President Vladimir Putin might not want to make a deal after all. Trump on Monday said he was arranging a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskiy, to be followed by a trilateral summit among the three presidents. Trump said on Tuesday he discussed holding possible talks between Zelenskiy and Putin in Hungary with the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Russia has not confirmed it will take part in talks with Zelenskiy. 'The likelihood of a quick resolution to the conflict with Russia now seems unlikely,' said Daniel Hynes, senior commodity strategist at ANZ, in a note on Wednesday. In the U.S., BP said on Tuesday operations at its 440,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Whiting, Indiana, were affected due to flooding caused by a severe thunderstorm overnight, potentially weighing on the facility's crude demand. The site is a key fuel producer for the Midwest market. Prices found some support as industry inventory report indicated steady crude and fuel demand in the U.S., the world's biggest oil consumer. U.S. crude oil inventories fell by 2.42 million barrels in the week ended August 15, market sources said on Tuesday, citing American Petroleum Institute figures. Gasoline inventories fell by 956,000 barrels, while distillate inventories rose by 535,000 barrels from last week, the sources said.

PSX sustains record momentum, KSE-100 breaches 150,000

There was no stopping the bullish momentum at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), buoyed by earnings optimism, rupee stability, and strong institutional activity from local and foreign investors. The benchmark KSE-100 Index gained nearly 600 points during the opening hours of trading on Wednesday. At 10am, the benchmark KSE-100 Index was hovering at 150,346.33, an increase of 575.59 points or 0.38%. Buying interest was observed in key sectors including automobile assemblers, commercial banks, power generation and refinery. Index-heavy stocks, including PRL, ARL, HUBCO, MEBL, NBP and BOP traded in the green. In a key development for Pakistan's corporate sector, Moody's Ratings upgraded the local and foreign-currency long-term deposit ratings of five Pakistani banks: Allied Bank Limited (ABL), Habib Bank Ltd (HBL), MCB Bank Limited (MCB), National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and United Bank Ltd (UBL) to Caa1 from Caa2. Rating actions followed Moody's decision to upgrade the government of Pakistan's local and foreign currency issuer and senior unsecured debt ratings to Caa1 from Caa2, to reflect Pakistan's improving external position, supported by its progress in reform implementation under the IMF Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme. On Tuesday, the PSX extended its record-setting rally as the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed at an all-time high of 149,770.75 points, up 1,574 points or 1.06%. Internationally, global share markets came under pressure on Wednesday after a tech-led selloff on Wall Street, while the dollar gained some ground ahead of a key meeting of central bankers later in the week. Stock futures pointed to a lower opening in Europe and most Asian bourses were in the red, with tech-heavy indexes in Taiwan and South Korea among the biggest losers, in part due to worries about the Trump administration's growing influence on companies in the sector. MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan slid more than 1%, while EUROSTOXX 50 futures lost 0.64% and DAX futures shed 0.63%. S&P 500 futures dipped 0.27% and Nasdaq futures lost 0.44%, extending a fall from the cash session overnight. Japan's Nikkei lost 1.7% and Hong Kong's Hang Seng Tech Index shed 1.3%. US dollar strengthens ahead of Jackson Hole meet; NZ dollar drops on dovish RBNZ

TOKYO: The US dollar gained for a third straight session on Wednesday as traders awaited the Federal Reserve's annual Jackson Hole symposium this week for clues on the path of monetary policy. The New Zealand dollar tumbled after the Reserve Bank said its board also considered a half-point cut in deciding to reduce the cash rate by a quarter point. The kiwi slumped as much as 0.9% to $0.5841, its lowest since April 14. The U.S. dollar index , which measures the currency against six major counterparts, added 0.1% to 98.438, its highest since August 12. In the first two days of this week, it gained about 0.4%. Friday's speech by Fed Chair Jerome Powell is the market's main focus, as traders watch for any pushback against market pricing of a rate reduction next month. Traders now place odds of 84% on such a cut, and expect about 54 basis points of reductions by year-end. 'Given the relatively high bar for Powell to meet, there's a bit of risk being baked into the markets that he leans to the hawkish side and the proverbial rug gets pulled from beneath investors,' said Kyle Rodda, an analyst at Traders, who ramped up bets for a Fed cut on September 17 after a surprisingly weak payrolls report at the start of this month, were further encouraged after consumer price data showed limited upward pressure from tariffs. However, a hotter-than-expected producer price reading last week complicated the policy picture. Powell has said he is reluctant to cut rates because of expected tariff-driven price pressures this summer. Later on Wednesday, the Fed will issue the minutes of its meeting on July 29 and 30, when it held rates steady, although they may offer limited insight as the meeting came before the weak jobs numbers. The dollar advanced 0.1% to 0.80885 Swiss franc , though it edged slightly lower to 147.56 yen . The euro eased 0.2% to $1.1626, and sterling slipped 0.2% to $1.3463. Australia's dollar declined 0.3% to $0.6435, its weakest since August 1.
