Oklahoma basketball expected to land Xzayvier Brown from transfer portal
Former St. Joseph's guard Xzayvier Brown is expected to transfer to Oklahoma, according to multiple reports.
CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein first reported the move. Brown entered the transfer portal after the season. He averaged 17.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists for the Hawks last season en route to first-team All-Atlantic-10 honors.
Oklahoma's odds for picking up Brown from the transfer portal increased when it was reported that Sooners head coach Porter Moser was set to hire St. Joseph's assistant coach Justin Scott. Scott is Brown's step-father. Scott would replace Niko Medved, who left Oklahoma earlier in April for an assistant coaching job at Minnesota.
The Sooners needed the roster help. Guard Jeremiah Fears, the team's leading scorer last year, elected to enter the NBA Draft after just one year of college. Guard Duke Miles also entered the transfer portal the same day Fears declared he was turning pro. Miles finished third on the team in scoring last year.
Moser and his staff previously landed former Miami (FL) guard Nijel Pack and former Notre Dame forward Tae Davis in the portal. Davis averaged more than 15 points per game for the Fighting Irish last year and Pack averaged double-figures in each of his five seasons with the Hurricanes. He earned a sixth year of eligibility because he played in just nine games last year because of leg and ankle injuries.
Brown played two seasons at St. Joe's, helping the team to back-to-back NIT seasons. He was named A-10 Freshman of the Year two seasons ago after 12.7 points per game and shooting 40% from 3-point range.

Justin Rose's thrilling win draws best ratings for FedEx St. Jude Championship since 2013
It took three playoff holes for Justin Rose to claim the title at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship over J.J. Spaun on Sunday, and the thrilling finish drew a lot of eyes. NBC reported that 3.6 million people tuned in Sunday to take in the exciting action unfolding in Memphis — a 71 percent increase from the final round viewership for Hideki Matsuyama's win a year ago (2.1 million), according to Josh Carpenter with Sports Business Journal. It's the highest-rated final round for the FedEx St. Jude Championship since 2013, when a young Harris English held off Phil Mickelson to win by two shots. The event performed well Saturday, too, with 2.2 million tuning in for the third round, according to Carpenter. In total, NBC reported a 66 percent increase in average viewership over the weekend compared to 2024. Of course, part of that could be due to the fact that Tommy Fleetwood — a fan-favorite whose first win has long eluded him — was in contention until the very end before he stumbled down the stretch and finished tied for third. Regardless, it's another week worth celebrating for the PGA Tour, which is experiencing a banner season in terms of TV ratings. Just last week, CBS Sports reported that 2025 was its most-watched golf season in seven years. The FedEx Cup Playoffs roll on this week at the 2025 BMW Championship in Owings Mills, Maryland, which will be carried by NBC and its affiliates, along with PGA Tour Live on ESPN+. The top 30 in the standings after this week will advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake — the final leg of the playoffs.

Phillies Predicted To Cut Ties With Versatile 30-Year-Old Despite Recent Surge
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Philadelphia Phillies are primed for a World Series push this season. They have as much talent as ever, with Kyle Schwarber leading the way on offense and Zack Wheeler leading the pitching staff. With a few injured stars set to return from the injured list in the near future, the Phillies could have a bit of a roster crunch in the coming weeks. FanSided's Zachary Rotman recently predicted the Phillies would cut ties with (or potentially option) veteran utilityman Weston Wilson when Alec Bohm returns from injury. CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 11: Weston Wilson #37 of the Philadelphia Phillies hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on August 11, 2025 in Cincinnati,... CINCINNATI, OHIO - AUGUST 11: Weston Wilson #37 of the Philadelphia Phillies hits an RBI double during the eighth inning against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on August 11, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Edmundo Sosa #33 of the Philadelphia Phillies scores. More"Bohm will be the team's everyday third baseman when he returns, thus creating a platoon at second base with Edmundo Sosa and Bryson Stott, and creating a competition for who will platoon with Max Kepler in left field," Rotman wrote. "Both Otto Kemp and Weston Wilson have spent time in that role this season, and while Wilson has performed well since his recall after the All-Star break, it'd be tough for them to send Kemp back down to Triple-A. "Kemp's overall numbers might not be stellar, but he's slashing .268/.362/.463 with two of his four big league home runs against southpaws this season. His .825 OPS against lefties suggests he'd be an ideal platoon partner with Kepler, and Wilson simply hasn't outperformed him this season." It's more likely that the Phillies will option Wilson rather than designate him for assignment or release him. Still, Otto Kemp makes slightly more sense as a platoon option with Max Kepler, so it's more like the Phillies will keep Kemp rather than Wilson on the roster. It's going to be a tough decision to make, especially since Wilson has played well recently. If he can stay hot for the next few days, there's a chance it's Kemp who's demoted instead. Cubs Pitcher Gives Props to Division-Leading Brewers
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The race for the National League Central division title has been flipped on its head in the last month. The Chicago Cubs led the division by as many as six games prior to the All-Star break, but a scorching hot Milwaukee Brewers team has flipped the script. MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - AUGUST 10: Isaac Collins #6 of the Milwaukee Brewers reacts before crossing home plate after hitting a walk-off home run in the ninth inning against the New York Mets at American Family... MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - AUGUST 10: Isaac Collins #6 of the Milwaukee Brewers reacts before crossing home plate after hitting a walk-off home run in the ninth inning against the New York Mets at American Family Field on August 10, 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. MoreMilwaukee was an astonishing 25-4 over its last 29 games entering Tuesday, which has led to a 6 1/2-game lead over the Cubs atop the division. The stellar play from the Brewers has captured the attention of Chicago's All-Star Matthew Boyd and he knows how good of a team both Milwaukee and Chicago are. "They're a good ball club," Boyd said on the "Foul Territory" podcast. "We know how good we are too. They're doing what they're doing and you trust that when Sept. 30 rolls around, the standings will settle themselves where they need to be." Boyd's acknowledgment of Milwaukee's success is a testament to just how good Pat Murphy's squad has been since the beginning of July. After their win on Monday, the Brewers reached a 10-game winning streak for the second time this season. They entered Tuesday with the best record in MLB by a full five games. THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS ARE COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS — Codify (@CodifyBaseball) August 12, 2025 While it's hard for a division to be decided in late August, there is a chance that happens next week. Beginning next Monday, the Brewers and Cubs will meet at Wrigley field for a rare five-game series spanned across four days. If the standings were to stay exactly how they currently are, Milwaukee would enter the series with a 6 1/2-game lead over Chicago. Milwaukee winning four or even all five games in the series could increase its division lead to double digits with just one month of the season remaining.
