Fox News18 hours ago
The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed former Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller.
Müller, who won the World Cup with Germany in 2014, will join the Whitecaps for the remainder of the season in an open roster spot.
Terms of the deal were not released. The agreement includes a Designated Player option for 2026.
"Whitecaps — let's make history," Müller said in a video he posted online Wednesday.
The 35-year-old Müller has spent the last 17 years with Bayern Munich in the German Bundesliga, helping the club win 13 championships during that span. He scored 250 goals with Bayern across all competitions, but his contract was not renewed after last season.
At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Müller scored five goals.

How to Watch Bayern Munich vs. Tottenham From Anywhere: Stream Preseason Friendly Soccer

Bundesliga champion Bayern Munich hosts Premier League Tottenham on Thursday as both teams continue their preparations for the season ahead. Below, we'll outline the best live TV streaming services to watch this friendly match as it happens, wherever you are in the world. We'll also explain how to use a VPN if the match isn't available where you are. Following its appearance at the recent FIFA Club World Cup, today's match is only Bayern's second preseason game of the summer. Vincent Kompany's men come into this game off the back of a 2-1 win over Olympique Lyon last Saturday, which saw new signing Luis Diaz make his debut following his $86.7 million move from Liverpool. It's been a preseason of mixed fortunes so far for UEFA Europa League winners Spurs, meanwhile, with a victory over north London rivals Arsenal in Hong Kong, followed by a draw against Newcastle that saw attacking midfielder James Maddison suffer a serious knee injury. This final warm-up match before the start of the new EPL campaign could potentially provide a first look for Spurs fans at their new midfield signing João Palhinha, with the Portuguese star set to face his parent club after sealing a one-year loan move away from Bayern. Bayern Munich takes on Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, August 6, at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CET local time in Germany. That makes it a 12:30 p.m. ET or 9:30 a.m. PT start in the US and Canada, a 5:30 p.m. BST start in the UK and a 2:30 a.m. AEST kickoff in Australia on Friday. Harry Kane has scored 62 goals in 63 appearances since his transfer to Bayern two years ago. It can also be helpful when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling, adding an extra layer of protection for your devices and logins. VPNs are legal in many countries, including the US and Canada, and can be used for legitimate purposes such as improving online privacy and security. However, some streaming services may have policies restricting VPN use to access region-specific content. Spain knocks U.S. women out of top spot in world soccer rankings

Midfielder Aitana Bonmati helped Spain reach the Euro 2025 finale, where they lost the England. Photo by Til Buergy/EPA Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Spain replaced the United States atop the FIFA women's soccer world rankings, which were released Thursday, despite a loss to England in the Euro 2025 finale. Spain, the most recent (2023) World Cup champions, posted a 6-1 record since the last edition of the women's world rankings. The Spaniards' lone loss was a penalty kick setback to England in the Euro finale July 27 in Basel, Switzerland. The Americans, the most-recent (2024) Olympic gold medalists, are 3-0 since the last edition of the rankings. The next version of the rankings will be released Dec. 10. Sweden moved up three spots to No. 3 in the world. No. 4 England and No. 5 German round out the Top 5. No. 6 France moved up four spots. No. 7 Brazil, No. 8 Japan, No. 9 Canada and No. 10 Korea round out the Top 10. No. 104 Bangladesh made the biggest leap up the rankings, climbing 24 spots. Mongolia took the biggest fall, moving down 22 spots to No. 148. The United States Women's National Team will battle Portugal in two friendlies in October. The first match will be Oct. 23 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. The Americans will face Portal on Oct. 26 at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn. "Portugal is a growing team that will be highly motivated for these matches, but as always, these three games are more opportunities to work on us," U.S. manager Emma Hayes said in a news release. "I'm very impressed with the progress we've made since the Olympics and I want to give a lot of credit to the players for embracing our culture and ideas, but our staff and the players know we still have much work to do before World Cup qualifying next year." Spain will face Sweden on Oct. 24 and 28 in the UEFA Women's Nations League.

Sky Sports Reporter: Liverpool Star in ‘Advanced Talks' Over £50m Transfer Deal

RB Leipzig Circle as Harvey Elliott Considers Liverpool Future Harvey Elliott's future at Liverpool is under increasing scrutiny as RB Leipzig step up their efforts to sign the England youth international. According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig and Elliott are 'already in advanced talks over personal terms', and the Bundesliga side 'want him' as they seek a replacement for Xavi Simons, who appears Chelsea-bound. Having only started once in the Premier League last season, Elliott's position under Arne Slot appears uncertain. Though he featured in 28 games, only six were from the start. Yet, despite limited opportunities, Elliott managed to register five goals and three assists — a solid return that showcases both his creativity and clinical instinct. This leaves both club and player with a decision to make, with Elliott valued around the £50million mark. Slot, who famously led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his debut season, has already overseen a number of midfield arrivals. Elliott, in his own words, is contemplating whether this congestion may 'block the path' for his development. Leipzig's Interest: More Than Just a Rumour Plettenberg's report suggests a move may be more than speculative. Talks are progressing swiftly, and while the final structure of the deal remains undecided, the intention is clear. 'Concrete negotiations between the clubs are expected to follow once a verbal agreement is in place,' Plettenberg stated. The most eye-catching line from his update may be the simplest: 'Important: Elliott is keen to join Leipzig.' This admission puts Liverpool in a difficult position. While the club has always valued Elliott's potential, the player's own ambition and willingness to explore other options could accelerate a move. Elliott's Voice: Clear and Candid The most compelling aspect of this story might be Elliott's own words. Speaking to The Anfield Wrap during pre-season, his comments were heartfelt yet pragmatic: 'If I had it my way I would be here for the rest of my career, it's as simple as that… but at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what's best for me.' He didn't hold back on his ambition either: 'I have big ambitions. I want to get in the World Cup squad. I want to keep being successful as a player. It's something I still need to review.' It's a mature reflection from a player clearly aware of both his potential and the limited time top-level football affords. What Comes Next for Liverpool? Liverpool now face a crucial decision. Elliott's stock remains high and interest from Leipzig offers both a developmental opportunity and a financial incentive. Whether they allow him to leave permanently or opt for a loan solution, the club must weigh short-term squad needs against long-term value. Slot has proven ruthless in selection, but also adaptive. If Elliott remains, he must be given genuine opportunities, not token appearances. If he departs, Liverpool must be confident they are not letting go of a future star too soon. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis There's a heartbreak brewing here, and Liverpool fans know the feeling all too well. Harvey Elliott is one of us. He wears the badge like a fan, speaks with the honesty we rarely hear, and plays with a fire that doesn't lie. Hearing him say he wants to stay 'for the rest of my career' hits hard, especially when it's followed by the cold reality that he 'needs to be selfish'. And he's right. We've seen too many young talents fade by waiting too long. Harvey has the ability to reach the top, and it's painful to think he might have to do that somewhere else. RB Leipzig isn't just shopping smart. They're seeing what we've always seen: a future England international, a difference-maker. We lost Diogo this summer. That void in the squad, and in our hearts, should be a reminder of how fragile everything is. Losing another fan-favourite, even to development rather than tragedy, carries its own sting. If Elliott goes, we'll support him. But it would be a shame to see his Anfield story paused just when it could be starting. He deserves more than bench minutes. Either give him a real role this season, or ensure the door stays open for a return.
