Girl, 9, drowns in busy pool full of adults as child found her 'lying on bottom'
A young girl drowned in a busy pool full of adults and children after her dad's partner looked away for "a moment", with another child making the horrific discovery of her 'lying on the bottom' of the pool.
Ava Rose McCourt, 9, disappeared from sight as she swam in a pool at the Clinton Mobile Home Resort in Tiffin, Ohio, on June 28. Her dad's partner, and soon-to-be wife, Christina Bryant told police the girl could not swim and had been using a pool noodle to float. Ms Bryant told officers she turned away for a brief moment and that when she looked back, Ava was missing.
She started to frantically search before another child found her at the "bottom of the pool in the deep end" resulting in a bystander giving her CPR until emergency services arrived, according to a police report. Ava's dad, Jesse McCourt, had been fishing a the trailer park's lake close to the pool at the time of her disappearance.
Ava was rushed to Mercy Tiffin Hospital where she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the ER. An autopsy will be carried out by the Lucas County Coroner's Office.
Witnesses at the pool said Ava vanished under the water without anyone noticing and had reportedly not splashed or made sounds of distress. One witness claimed it had happened as fast as a person snapping their fingers, MailOnline reported.
Little Ava Rose had been taught how to swim in the days leading up to her death, although she was not able to swim by herself. Officers said the investigation into the death was "over."
In a post thanking people who had donated to their GoFundMe page, Ms Bryan wrote: "Please respect all parties involved. We will have no and I mean no issues over these kind of things. I don't understand how this is our reality right now. We are broken... My fiancé, myself and Ava's bio mom are gonna have some really hard days."
Ava's previous teachers at Krout Elementary School in Tiffin shared their condolences. Lori Harp said: "Ava was such a sweet girl with the biggest heart. She loved giving me hugs at the end of the day and loved telling me stories when I helped with her class in 2nd grade."
Melissa Cimo, her second grade teacher, said: "I absolutely loved being Ava's 2nd grade teacher and she brought so much joy to me."
Little Ava was buried on July 3 following a funeral at Green Springs, Ohio. Her obituary read: "Ava loved life and enjoyed singing, dancing, laughing and giving hugs. She was a very kind girl and loved to spend time with her family and shopping."

He was the life and soul of the room. "There is a big dark cloud over the community as everyone comes to terms with Brandon's passing, which was way too soon. Dad-of-two Jordan Foy, 32, from Middlesbrough, has been described as a 'fantastic father' who was always circled by a massive group of friends and no one could say 'a bad word about him' A family is devastated over the loss of a young father who "lit up every room he walked in". Jordan Foy, 32, who has been described as a doting dad, lost his life suddenly on Thursday, August 14. In just four days, a GoFundMe has raised more than £15,000 for his funeral expenses and to support his family in the wake of their tragic loss. The Middlesbrough dad-of-two, who worked as a rigger, had recently been working at the Tyne Tunnel and was set to start a new job in Somerset this week. Dad to Leo, 11, and five-year-old Teddy, the former Middlesbrough College student was a "fantastic father" who loved spending time with his boys. His partner Robyn Morley told Teesside Live: "He loved Boro and the football. He loved spending time with his kids and he was so full of life. "He loved his parents, he was an only child and as really close with them. He always made us laugh, it was an everyday occurrence. He was hilarious." His mum, Carol, added: "He loved his family. He loved spending time with everybody. He was always very generous and very sociable. He had millions of friends - work mates, colleagues, people outside of work. "He loved going on holiday and he lived the high life, the finer things in life. Growing up, he was absolutely brilliant. He loved football and played for local teams. "He played for a team called Lemming Lads. He constantly had a full social life from him being very young. We have a big family who love him so much. "He's always been doing stuff, he was non-stop. Service dog reunited with blind owner two months after being stolen from Chicago backyard
A loyal service dog has been reunited with its owner nearly three months after being stolen from a backyard in Chicago, officials say. Bam Bam, the 14-year-old tan and white Dachshund, was stolen from the yard in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago on June 5, according to a GoFundMe created to help find him. His owner, Angel Santiago, who is legally blind due to glaucoma, spent days walking miles and handing out flyers with the hope of finding his beloved friend and aid. Santiago told police that two unknown people entered through his gate and took the canine. Although he heard the disturbance and even grabbed one of the suspects in an attempt to stop him, the men were able to get away with Bam Bam. He believes the suspect he grabbed sounded like a teenager. Santiago said that he could hear Bam Bam barking as the men ran away with him. 'Let your eyes be mine and look out for Bam Bam for me, please. I beg of you to help me,' he wrote in a desperate plea on the fundraiser. The GoFundMe totalled almost $20,000 as concerned citizens looked to support the cause. A F acebook Page set up for the search effort led several flyer events, petitions, and meetups in the city to help find the dog. On August 12, a post read: 'We are incredibly grateful to be working with an amazing group of volunteers who are organizing walking routes and flyering to reach local residents who may not have heard Angel and Bam Bam's story.| Thankfully, after nearly three months of desperate searching, Bam Bam was found. On Tuesday evening, Chicago police said an unidentified man and woman dropped off a white-and-yellow dachshund mix at the 16th District police station. Police quickly confirmed the animal to be Bam Bam. Santiago, who is both blind and has Type 2 diabetes, rushed to the station to be reunited with Bam Bam, say police. The dog was reportedly in good health when it was recovered, police said. As it stands, no arrests have been made. A team of detectives is continuing to investigate the circumstances of how the dog ended up at the station.
