My boyfriend was a CIA agent... it came with a slew of glamorous perks but also some VERY strict rules

Daily Mail5 days ago
A woman who dated a CIA agent has laid bare the glamorous perks that came with being in a relationship with a government official - as well as the strict rules she had to follow.
Nyla Caselli, 23, based in California, said she met the man, named James, after he approached her at the airport and asked to take her to dinner.
From that night on, Nyla says she was whisked into a lifestyle of private jets, chauffeurs, designer handbags, and spontaneous bank transfers, including a $40,000 payment simply because 'he missed her.'
She was soon introduced to 'the fast life' of elite hotels and whirlwind weekends abroad... but dating a CIA agent also came with its downsides.
James had intense regulations when it came to privacy, including no social media, no photos, and no personal questions.
Nyla explained exclusively to the Daily Mail, 'From day one, James had very strict boundaries. No photos - ever. No tagging him in anything.
'I wasn't even allowed to post when or where we were if he was nearby. I had to turn off my phone sometimes.'
Nyla recalled James using 'encrypted phones,' and doing 'security checks' whenever he'd enter a public building.
'He used a phone with no traceable apps, and sometimes would only communicate on burner numbers,' she continued.
'We'd enter restaurants through back doors. He always sat facing the exits. Even in hotels, he'd sweep the room for cameras.
'He once made me leave my bag in a separate car just to "be safe."'
But he also loved to spoil her. He whisked her away on trips to places like Morocco and Switzerland and moved her into a $10,000-a-month penthouse in downtown Los Angeles.
At first, James kept his line of work a secret from Nyla and she believed he was just a 'rich businessman.'
She explained, 'At the time, I didn't question it. But now I realize I was basically living in a spy movie.
'He said [all the rules] was for "operational security," and at the time, I just thought he was a privacy freak… but it turns out, he was living a double life.
'I thought maybe he was in tech or finance, but deep down, something always felt… off.'
After three months of his secretive behavior, security details, and constant travel, Nyla said she jokingly asked him, 'What are you, CIA?' and he went 'stone cold.'
That's when he dropped the bombshell that he did indeed work for the US government.
While she first thought he was joking, Nyla said that suddenly, 'everything made sense.'
And knowing the truth about his profession only added an extra 'thrill' to their relationship.
'It was like living in a fantasy. There were spontaneous first-class trips, dinners where the room got cleared out just for us, and this underlying feeling that no one could touch me. It was definitely a high,' she dished.
But with the life of luxury also came a fierce 'loneliness' as she had to tell lies to her own friends and couldn't share anything on social media.
'I was a ghost in my own life sometimes - living the dream, but unable to wake anyone else up to it,' she recalled.
'I wasn't able to post or share anything about my life with the world and I had to hide everything.
'There were nights I didn't know where he was or when he'd come back. It was glamorous, but it was also extremely isolating.'
Though things ended a year in after James was reassigned overseas, Nyla said she learned a lot from their relationship.
And in the end, she concluded that she'll always remember James with affection.
'Now I'm hyper-aware of my surroundings. He taught me to never assume I'm not being watched, and honestly, in today's world, that advice has aged very well,' she reflected.

DHS sparks confusion by adopting socialist anthem for latest video: ‘He's writing about cops and vigilantes'

The Department of Homeland Security is facing criticism for using Woody Guthrie 's famous 1940 folk song 'This Land Is Your Land' in a promotional video. The song appears in a July 30 clip from the agency on X, soundtracking a video featuring scenes of natural beauty, families, and federal agents, plus the caption, 'The Promise of America is worth Protecting. The Future of our Homeland is worth Defending.' Experts on Guthrie say the singer — a lifelong socialist who wrote songs about topics like immigrant farmworkers and decorated his guitar with the slogan, 'This machine kills fascists' — was not intending to write an anthem for an agency carrying out mass deportations. Instead, Guthrie biographer Will Kaufman told CNN, the song reflects Guthrie's preoccupation with the inequality, poverty, and violence that took place during the 1930s in America in the wake of the Depression. 'Woody is writing about a different America,' he said. 'He's writing about cops and vigilantes and barbed wire and bread lines.' 'Boy, did the DHS ever get it wrong!' the Guthrie family added in an email to the outlet. 'So now, it looks like we'll all have to sing 'This Land Is Your Land' right back at 'em, so they can re-learn it and get it right.' Though the song has gone on to be considered a generic pro-U.S.A. anthem, it was originally written in part out of Guthrie's annoyance with another patriotic tune, 'God Bless America.' The original versions of 'This Land Is Your Land' also feature lesser-remembered verses about people who 'stood hungry,' as well as a line that called out a sign bearing the words 'private property' or ' no trespassing,' depending on which iteration was being sung. Later in life, Guthrie wrote a song calling out Donald Trump's father, Fred Trump, for 'racial hate,' over the real estate developer's alleged history of racial discrimination towards potential tenants. The concern over DHS's use of Guthrie's music mirrors the response from artists and their families who have seen their paintings used in DHS social media efforts. As The Independent has reported, the agency has used nostalgic images of the Western frontier and small-town, midcentury America in between touting its military-style immigration raids, a combination one observer said was 'classic fascist propaganda.' The agency has also faced backlash for using memes like the Jet2 Holiday sound and AI-images to promote its deportation campaign.

The BBC programme sees a group of strangers try to figure out where they are in Europe through a series of clues in a bid to win £100,000. At one point, the group took a train through a scenic forest, with a challenge allowing one team to get further clues as to where they were. They then returned to the bus and hit the road once again, failing to realise that they hadn't actually gained any ground until they found themselves back at the same train station the next day. Host Rob Brydon had a further surprise in store for them, by bringing out Ashvin, Claire and Chloe-Anne. Viewers will remember that the three players had failed to make it on to the bus in episode one, but had now returned for a second chance to join the adventure. Rob explained that the members of the losing team from the previous task would each join forces with one of the returning players and go head to head. These were James, Ben, Darren and Nick, but the winning team - Judith, Josh and Saskia - had the chance to save one of them outright, and they chose Darren. The remaining trio then picked their teams and working together, they all had to go through a box of items for a specific destination chosen by the announcer, and find pieces that had nothing to do with that location. After two rounds, James and Ashvin were the losing team, and they then had to go head-to-head for the final spot on the bus. In the end, Ashvin picked the right items, meaning James had to leave there and then. Fans stunned as THREE Destination X contestants are immediately axed in brutal opening twist The news left the rest of the team - in particular Saskia - shocked, and James was in tears as he said goodbye. But that wasn't the end of the departures, as the players still had to lock in where they thought this week's final destination was, with the person furthest away being sent packing as well. Having seen the clues, the winning team were convinced it was Munich in Germany, but had decided to try and throw the losing team off by suggesting it was Dortmund. After everyone had locked in their locations, Rob revealed the sad news that Ben had been the furthest from the destination - which was Munich - and that he would be leaving the bus immediately. Destination X continues tomorrow night at 9pm on BBC One. 4 It wasn't a very happy reunion Credit: BBC

Destination X viewers 'getting annoyed' with show as they all issue same complaint

Destination X was back on screens during its usual slot of 9pm on Wednesday night but several viewers all issued the same complaint as the BBC travel competition continued Destination X was back on screens during its usual slot of 9pm on Wednesday night. The BBC One series follows a group of strangers hoping to to win £100,000 by correctly guessing where in the world they have been taken to, but viewers began to get 'very frustrated' as things unfolded. ‌ The series, which is hosted by Rob Brydon, sees the hopefuls dealt with various clues as to where they might be, ranging from languages written down and other key hints. But as the competition heated up, viewers found themselves 'getting annoyed' by the sheer lack of knowledge that the contestants seemed to possess. One viewer took to X to say: "Getting annoyed with #DestinationX - the lack of knowledge is appalling!" ‌ Another said: "I assume it's deliberate in this show that they picked contestants who know absolutely nothing about European languages or Geography, but it's still very frustrating to watch." And a third joked: "We have some exceptionally clever people in this country. We win bucketloads of Nobel prizes, we invented nearly everything worthwhile, we have an elite of world class minds but most of our citizens are thick as pig s***." It comes after Gary Lineker 'signs a huge deal with ITV to host new show' after BBC exit. ‌ As part of the mission that was played out in episode three, contestants had to sort items often associated with various countries into the correct box. Host Rob Brydon looked on in a tense race to the finish but in the end, Ashvin was saved and e-commerce manager James had to go. Upon Ashvin's victory, he said: "My goal was to get on that bus, and it's gone. The goal was the Destination X bus," as James became candid about the challenge that saw him ousted from the programme. He said: "I'm quite said to be going really, I feel a bit blindsided by Josh, Josh chose Daren because he viewed the rest of us as a threat , then I can't say I wouldn't have done the same." ‌ Marketing executive Saskia was incredibly moved by James' sudden departure. Through tears, she said in a confessional: "This game is really hard. I know this is a game because it's really hard when you've made emotional connections with people here, it's really difficult. "I'm a little bit angry at Daren, I love having Daren here but I feel like it kind of could have been James." As the journey drew to a close, the remaining contestants had just minutes to figure out where in the world they were. They all gathered in the map room, and the one who placed their X on the map furthest away from their actual location was warned they would be immediately out of the competition. There was mass confusion, to begin with, although most of them seemed to assume they were in Munich. ‌ It was Ben who faced elimination after guessing that they were in Dortmund, and spoke of how he had taken the advice of Saskia, who in turn, voted for Munich after spotting a football ground. Prior to that, he had spotted a football team playing in black and yellow, which he believed could be Borussia Dortmund. Saskia said: "That was bad. But I need to start playing this game properly if I want to make it to the final." She added: "I don't even know what to say about it," as she hugged her former co-star and began to cry. After stepping off the bus for the final time, indeed in Munich, Ben laughed and said: "Well, I'm not where I am that's for sure! Wow! I'm in Munich. My gut was Munich. I saw Oktoberfest, but the clues got me. I got played a little bit. I put my trust in people."
