Wrexham women all set to compete in big Hong Kong tournament
The tournament, which introduced a women's competition for the first time in 2024, includes Premier League sides Aston Villa, Brighton and Hove Albion and West Ham United.
Wrexham's squad will consist of 10 players, with a number of the Adran U19s North title winners included. These are Chloe Ankers, Grace Morris and Leah Burke, who have all made first team appearances.
They will be joined by first team players Lili Jones, Ava Suckley and Erin Lovett, who will add invaluable experience.
Mia Roberts, a member of the Wrexham line-up that secured promotion to the Adran Premier, will take the final position in the squad.
All league matches in the competition will be played on Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17, with the knockout contests taking place on Sunday, May 18.
Joining Wrexham across the three-day tournament will be Hong Kong's TSL, Kitchee and Hong Kong Football Club, alongside Thailand's Chonburi FC Women and Eastern Thunder from Singapore.
The top-two sides will go through to the women's cup final, with teams ranked third and fourth playing in the shield final, while the plate final will be contested between the fifth and sixth-placed sides.
Matches will last for 14 minutes in total, made up of two seven-minute halves, with a one-minute interval at half-time.
Wrexham U19s manager Gareth Owen told the club's website: 'I'd like to say a massive thank you to Hong Kong Football Club for the invitation to play in this year's HKFC Soccer Sevens 2025.
'We are so excited to represent the club out in Hong Kong for what will be not only a fantastic footballing opportunity, but a life experience for them as people.
'The way I see it, there's no point entering into a tournament if you're not planning on giving your everything to win it - who knows, we might just add to the silverware that the club has won this season!'
Wrexham AFC CEO Michael Williamson added: 'We are excited to be entering a women's team into the HKFC Soccer Sevens tournament for the first time.
'As well as the opportunity to play in Asia for the very first time as a club, the tournament also provides fast-paced football and high-level opposition to test the players at the end of what has been another successful season on the pitch for our women's section, at both first-team and Under-19s level.
'To be invited to the long-standing and successful tournament is a mark of our growth of the Wrexham brand, and will provide a fantastic opportunity for our young players.
'We're looking forward to taking our place at the HKFC Soccer Sevens.'

Wrexham AFC: No-one should be pressing panic buttons
No-one said it would be easy and Wrexham suffered a second defeat in a row when West Brom won 3-2 at The Racecourse on Saturday. The game was decided in both penalty areas as the Baggies capitalised on poor defending while the Reds weren't ruthless enough in front of goal. Having suffered a 2-1 defeat to Southampton on the opening day, it has been a reality check for Phil Parkinson's side but no-one should be pressing panic buttons at this stage. It has been as tough as everyone expected with Wrexham facing a Saints side relegated from the Premier League last season and a West Brom outfit who have also been in the fop-flight recently and regularly challenge for the play-offs at this level. But in both games, Wrexham have had chances to win it. The Reds, when leading 1-0 at St Mary's, came so close to getting that vital second goal before Southampton's late show. When it was level at 1-1 on Saturday for the club's first home game in the second tier for 43 years, Wrexham had better opportunities than West Brom and looked more likely to get that important next goal. But they just weren't clinical enough and the sloppy defending in their own area proved costly as they didn't even have a point to show for their efforts. Both performances have had their positives. The first-half display in each game was decent and that carried on at the start of the second period in both outings before the opposition managed to come out on both. But in each match, the outcome could have been different if Wrexham had taken their chances and the defending was better. Parkinson has spent big to make Wrexham competitive and they definitely have been. It is fine margins at this level when, let's be honest, every game is difficult, but Wrexham can't afford to leak goals like they did on Saturday. "We can take a lot of heart from the game," said Parkinson. "It wasn't like we were a team who's been sat off the ball for 90 minutes and not got a kick. "We had good control at times with the ball. "We'd spoken about that last week how Southampton in that period towards the end, they dominated it and we need to make sure we get hold of the ball and get a breather with the football at times. "I thought we did that really well even in the first half with some good passages of play for us. "We switched it and got our wing backs in some great positions but when we all look back on Monday, which we will do as a group, at the goals, we will say 'wow, that's too easy'. "If teams beat us and score against us, they've got to really have earned it and I don't think they had to really earn that enough today." Wrexham have earned their place in the Championship after securing a record-breaking three successive promotions. No doubt, there will be more defeats to chew over in the coming months than Reds have been used to during the meteoric rise up the pyramid but it's all about learning from those off-days.

Dobson keen to learn from 'top quality' O'Brien

Reds snap Brewers' winning streak in extras
August 17 - Austin Hays singled in TJ Friedl in the bottom of the 10th inning as the host Cincinnati Reds snapped the Milwaukee Brewers' franchise-record 14-game win streak with a 3-2 win Sunday. Spencer Steer bunted Friedl over to third to start the 10th. Milwaukee intentionally walked Elly De La Cruz and Will Benson before Hays drove the game-winner down the left-field line. William Contreras hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning off Reds closer Emilio Pagan to give the Brewers a 2-1 lead. The Reds, who remain the only team in the major leagues not to be swept this season, scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings. The Brewers committed a rare error to start the ninth when Joey Ortiz bobbled pinch-hitter Will Benson's grounder to short. Noevi Marte singled Benson to right with one out and Jose Trevino drove him in with a single to right to tie the game and send the teams into extra innings for the second straight game. Graham Ashcraft (7-4) pitched a scoreless 10th for the win. Grant Anderson (2-4) blew the save in the ninth and then took the loss in the 10th. Cincinnati starter Andrew Abbott has not won since beating the Miami Marlins July 9, despite having the second lowest ERA (2.41) in the National League heading into Sunday. Marte singled to right, but Hays held up at third to put runners on the corners with no outs.
