Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has hurdled onto the cover of Madden NFL 2026, but hopefully will avoid the negative history behind the distinction.
After a record-setting season, Barkley and his famous backward hurdle will be featured on the cover of the popular video game. Will be bring bad luck though? There's some history that says yes, the "Madden curse" is real but it's been a while since it's had an impact.

Here's what the curse is and which players it affected:
What is the Madden curse?
Some might say this is bad news for Barkley and Eagles fans due to the "Madden curse," as some players have sustained major injuries or sudden downfalls after gracing the cover.
Here's a look at some of the more notable "cursed" seasons by players who were on the Madden cover:
2025: San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey played only four games this past season due to a right knee injury.
2017: New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski missed the first four games of the 2018 season and started only six games total due to a herniated disk and other injuries.

2012: Cleveland Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who came out of nowhere to rush for 1,000-plus yards, missed six games with an injury the following season and never reached his 2012 peak again.
2011: New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees wasn't bitten by the injury bug, but he did toss a career-high and franchise-record 22 picks as the Saints missed the playoffs.
2010: Steelers S Troy Polamalu, who shared the cover with Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald, missed 11 games because of an MCL injury.
2009: New York Jets QB Brett Favre forced his way out of Green Bay after a Hall-of-Fame career with the Packers and then threw a league-leading 22 interceptions.

2008: Titans QB Vince Young threw only nine touchdowns and was picked 17 times before being benched.
2007: Seattle Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander rushed for only 896 yards and five-straight 1,000-plus yard seasons.
2006: Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb missed half of the season due to injuries and had a public feud with star WR Terrell Owens the following season after losing to the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.
2004: Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick fractured a fibula less than a week after the game's release, causing him to miss all but five games that season.

2003: Rams RB Marshall Faulk, a model of consistency after five-straight 1,000-plus rushing yard seasons, fell short of the mark and never reached it again.
2002: Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper missed six games due to injuries and lost 16 fumbles.
Who broke the Madden curse?
After years of bad luck, many speculate that Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson broke the Madden curse by posting a career year with 122 receptions for 1,964 yards and five touchdowns.

It wasn't long after that play – maybe the most memorable of the year – was added to Madden.

Vikings CB Isaiah Rodgers embracing fresh start and preparing for bigger role in Minnesota

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers missed the 2023 NFL season because of a gambling suspension. Last season, he won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Minnesota's newest cornerback is getting ready for a bigger role. "Just enjoy the process while it's here," said Rodgers at mini-camp earlier this week. "Do whatever I can do to help the team win and bring a Lombardi to Minnesota." Rodgers may not have made as many national headlines when he signed with the Vikings this offseason. But if all goes according to plan, he'll be a starting cornerback and make a big impact this fall. At least that's what Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores wants. "He just wants me to be me," said Rodgers, of Flores. "That's one of the reasons why I came here. He just wants me to go out there and use my ball skills and use my knowledge to make plays." Rodgers, 27, will be paired with pro-bowler Byron Murphy. It's only been a few weeks, but the two corners have quickly become friends. "We play the game a lot," said Rodgers. "We ask each other about film. You know, how he sees this, how I see it. We switch from boundary to field. So we're just having fun with the scheme and figuring each other out." "I'd say that's my best friend already," said Murphy. "That's my dawg. Obviously just met him when he got here. But we're already playing games online, we got 2K, all those things. He's a great guy, great teammate. But that bond's already there." And it turns out that bond and their back-and-forth competition could result in a few more Vikings turnovers. Murphy had six interceptions last year, third best in the NFL. "A lot of plays on the ball. A lot of interceptions. He dropped a lot, though, "laughed Rodgers. "He's supposed to have at least 10-plus. So, just trying to get in that stat category with him and compete." "I dropped like five or six," smiled Murphy. "I don't know the exact number, but I gotta go make up for it this year for sure." Rodgers figures to factor in the return game, too. He has one career kickoff return for a touchdown so far, which happened in 2020. Along with many other Vikings, he took reps at that spot during OTAs and minicamp. WCCO asked Rodgers if he sees that being part of his job this season. "Anything to help the team. Just having fun out here. Enjoying the process too."

Chiefs' Travis Kelce Mom Lands Major Spot On Reality TV Show

Chiefs' Travis Kelce Mom Lands Major Spot On Reality TV Show originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has taken much of the family spotlight this offseason. His relationship with pop music princess Taylor Swift continues to capture the hearts of the many while the build-up to his farewell tour increases by the day. Kelce will retire from the NFL after this season. He, Patrick Mahomes and the rest of Chiefs Kingdom hope to pull out one more run to the Super Bowl. When that time ultimately comes for him to move on from the game, don't expect the Kelce family to go away from the public eye. Travis and his brother, Jason, co-host the "New Heights" podcast which has been quite successful. Even the family's matriarch Donna Kelce has found her way into the spotlight. In fact, she had a major announcement this week that will be sure to provide more Kelce content. Both Donna and Jason will participate in season four of the reality TV series "The Traitors." She made her announcement official with a post on Instagram captioned, "Sundays were just the beginning. I raised the two playmakers, but now it's mamas turn." The show will begin streaming on Peacock and has begun filming in Scotland. Donna and Jason will be joined by a number of reality TV stars from other programs along with a group of celebrities including Michael Rapoport and Tara Lipinksi. "The Traitors" splits contestants up into two categories of "Faithfuls" and "Traitors." The cast must decipher which among them are the "Traitors," picking a player each night to "murder." While Donna and Jason embark on this exciting new venture, Travis remains at home preparing for his final season. The next step on that journey comes next week when the Chiefs get started with their mandatory minicamp on June 17.
