
Shocking plot to 'blackmail TV comedy star is revealed as a man is arrested after making sick phone threats'
The star, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was the target of phone threats from a man threatening to spread 'disgusting' false accusations against them.
It's thought that the suspect, 35, attempted to extort money from the star by threatening to publicise vile and defamatory claims against him.
He is also alleged to have bombarded the middle-aged star, who is middle-aged, with menacing phone calls and text messages over several months.
According to The Sun, the entertainer has been supported by police and provided a full statement.
Police were alerted by the victim, and the suspect, who is believed to be a German national who works in the arts, was arrested at his home in east London.
His electronic devices were seized during a search of the premises and are being examined by officers.
The suspect has been bailed until September pending inquiries.
A source told the publication: 'He is said to have received messages and calls from a blackmailer who was threatening to publicly smear him with false accusations.
'These accusations were disgusting in nature and totally false — and they have caused the victim considerable distress.'
The star was said to be known to the suspect after meeting several years ago, but the men were not close friends.
The blackmail demands are said to have left the famous victim 'shocked', and were described as 'a bolt from the blue.'
The arrest was confirmed by Scotland Yard.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: 'On Friday, June 27, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of harassment, blackmail and malicious communications.
'He was taken into custody and later bailed to return pending further inquiries.
'He is next due back on a date in mid-September.

Man sentenced for dropping vermin outside religious venue
Edmund Fowler, 66, was captured on CCTV releasing rats outside Sheffield Grand Mosque on Grimesthorpe Road. This incident was part of a series of racially motivated hate crimes, which Fowler repeated on three other occasions between May and June. Fowler, of Skelwith Drive, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to four counts of racially aggravated harassment at Sheffield Magistrates' Court. On 16 July, he was handed an 18-week prison sentence, which was suspended for 18 months. As part of his sentence, Fowler was also prohibited from going near any mosque for 18 months.

A UK town is set to gain a new £795,000 splash park after an abandoned lido was earmarked for regeneration. The new play area - built on the site of the former St Neots Lido in Cambridgeshire - will boast an incredible aqua tent, hydro blast, and a water arch. 5 5 St Neots Lido closed down in 2003, after operating for 42 years, and was filled in two years later. There are also plans to put in a mixture of other jets for visitors. Councillor Richard Slade, mayor and chair of St Neots Town Council said: "This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when the community and council work together. "We're proud to support a project that will bring joy to generations of local families." Plans had first been submitted back in 2022 to Huntingdonshire District Council but were finally kicked into gear following a "significant" grant from the town council. The new park will be built by St Neots Aquatic and Leisure CIO. Mick Marks, chair of the CIO said: "This isn't just a splash park, it's a promise kept to the families of St Neots. "We've worked tirelessly to bring this to life, and we're thrilled to see it finally taking shape."
