Erin Patterson mushroom murder trial LIVE updates: How accused allegedly branded her husband a 'deadbeat' and his parents a 'lost cause'

Daily Mail23-05-2025

Patterson's group messages about her estranged husband and his family read aloud to jury: 'I swear to God'
Patterson vented about her in-laws to online friends in the months leading up to the fateful lunch that claimed their lives.
On Thursday, Victoria Police Cybercrime Squad senior digital forensics officer Shamen Fox-Henry was taken through a series of Facebook messages allegedly sent by Patterson seven months before the deadly lunch.
In the messages, Patterson described her in-laws as a 'lost cause' and exclaimed 'f**k them'.
Patterson showed no emotion at the back of courtroom four of the Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court in Victoria's east, where her Supreme Court hearing is being held.
Mr Fox-Henry (pictured below) was able to recover the Facebook messages from a Samsung phone seized by police upon her arrest the following month August 2023.
Some of the messages read:
'Simon's dad contacted me this morning to say that he and Gail had tried to talk to Simon about the matters I raised and to get 'his side' but he refused to talk about it other than to signal he disagreed with what I said,' she told her online chums.
'Beyond that he wont talk about it. So Don said they cant adjudicate if they don't know both sides and Simon wont give his side. So he said all he can ask is that Simon and I get together to pray for the children.
'This family I swear to f**king God.'

Patterson trial overview so far
Erin Patterson, 50, is accused of murdering her in-laws, Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister, Heather Wilkinson, after allegedly serving them a beef Wellington lunch with death cap mushrooms.
Patterson is also accused of attempting to murder Heather's husband, pastor Ian Wilkinson (pictured below), who survived the lunch after spending several weeks in an intensive care unit.
The court heard Patterson's estranged husband, Simon, was also invited, but didn't attend.
Witnesses told the jury Patterson ate her serving from a smaller and differently coloured plate than those of her guests, who ate from four grey plates.
Patterson told authorities she bought dried mushrooms from an unnamed Asian store in the Monash area of Melbourne, but health inspectors could find no evidence of this.
The health department declared the death cap poisoning was 'isolated' to Patterson's deadly lunch.
Multiple witnesses, including Simon Patterson, Ian Wilkinson and other family members, have given emotion-charged evidence to the jury.
Medical staff have told the jury of the painful symptoms the dying lunch guests and Ian Wilkinson suffered.
An expert witness told the court death cap mushrooms were detected in debris taken from a dehydrater Patterson had dumped at a local tip.
Telecommunications expert Dr Matthew Sorell also told the jury Patterson's phone was detected near areas in Outtrim and Loch where death cap mushrooms had been spotted.
CCTV of a short toilet pitstop at a Gippsland BP service station following the day of the lunch was also shown to the court.
Victoria Police Cybercrime Squad senior digital forensics officer Shamen Fox-Henry said he found evidence of a death cap mushroom on data from a computer seized from Patterson's Leongatha home on August 5, 2023.
Blunt Facebook messages found on a Samsung phone were on Thursday read aloud to the jury.

Body found in search for missing Pheobe Bishop as police bodycam video shows her flatmate being arrested for her murder

MISSING teen Phoebe Bishop's body has been found near the area where she was last seen. The heartbreaking discovery comes just hours after her two housemates James Wood and Tanika Bromley were arrested and charged on suspicion of murder. 13 13 13 Police were searching close to Good Night Scrub National Park, near Gin Gin, in Queensland, Australia, this afternoon before finding human remains at 2:30pm. They have not yet been identified, but cops are now talking to the family of the missing teen, who had not been seen in nearly a month. A crime scene has been established where the tragic teen was found, and forensic examinations are ongoing. Police are still appealing for anyone with relevant information on the case to come forward. Shocking footage showed the moment one of Pheobe's alleged killers was arrested - as police told him to "just listen". Wood, 34, and Bromley, 33, were arrested on Thursday - before Pheobe's sister broke down outside court while making an emotional plea. The Australian teen's housemates have each been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse. 17-year-old Pheobe, from Gin Gin, north of Brisbane, Australia, has not been seen or heard from since Thursday, May 15. She was supposed to board a flight to see her boyfriend on the same day she went missing, but the teenager never actually checked in. Police revealed a grim update as they believe that Pheobe's body was moved "more than once". Pheobe Bishop cops arrest 34-year-old flatmate who was last to see missing Aussie teen on explosive journey to airport Her corpse is said to have been in the Good Night Scrub National Park at one point before being relocated. Dramatic footage released by Queensland Police on Friday showed a dishevelled Wood, without any shoes on, being led out of what is said to be his parents' RV. Recorded at 7:20pm on Thursday in the Bundaberg area, the alleged killer is seen following cops without resisting. But a policeman is later heard telling Wood: "Just listen to me." The rest of the clip's audio is edited out, and it is unclear what provoked the policeman to say this to Wood. There is also an unidentified figure in the caravan wearing orange shorts, standing behind Wood as he talks to one of the cops. 13 13 13 Wood is wearing a black graphic T-shirt with grey sweatpants as one officer grabs his arm and escorts him out. After being taken out into the dark, the "Detective Sergeant with Bundaberg Child Protection Investigation Unit" makes the arrest. The officer says: "I'm placing you under arrest for the homicide of Pheobe Bishop". Wood is then seen sitting alone at the back of an unmarked police car. Both Wood and Bromley appeared at Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday morning, and will return to court on August 11. Outside the building, Pheobe's heartbroken sister Kaylea Bishop said her sibling was 'loved and missed' dearly. The 18-year-old desperately pleaded for anyone with information on the case to come forward. Kaylea said: 'I don't know what to say, but if you've got any information about Pheobe, or the car or anything like that, just come forward. "We just want her home." Kaylea and Pheobe had a close relationship and were planning to move in together last year. Also on Friday, Pheobe's devastated mum Kylie Johnson paid tribute to her daughter Kaylea for bravely speaking out. Johnson said on Facebook: "Kaylea your strength, determination and dedication to bring Phee Phee home is such a reflection of your fierce love for your sister." Cops are now set to allege that Wood, Bromley and Pheobe were all in the car when it arrived at Airport Drive near Bundaberg Airport in the morning of May 15. Wood previously told the Daily Mail that Pheobe convinced the couple to pull over so she could do her makeup. They then pulled over, less than a kilometre away from the airport, before Wood and Bromley left her and went for a walk "for five minutes". After returning to their silver Hyundai, they claim she had "disappeared". But police now believe that the trio never actually left the car. Detective Inspector Craig Mansfield said: "Our evidence will outline the fact that three people arrived near to the airport, and three people never exited that vehicle." 13 13 13 Australian teenager Pheobe was supposed to board a flight on May 15 to see her boyfriend - but mysteriously she never checked in. The trio had an explosive drive to the airport according to Wood, which was the last time anyone had seen her. A family member said: "Her phone has been switched off from this point. "She hasn't contacted anyone at all, no one has seen her." The trio had been living in a derelict pad together, which cops have now declared a crime scene. Her distressed mum, Johnson, made a series of heartbreaking pleas begging anyone with information to come forward. She also claimed that her daughter's sudden disappearance was out of character. 13 13 13 The teen was supposed to fly to Brisbane and then to Perth to see her "high-school sweetheart" boyfriend but CCTV footage showed that she never entered the airport. Her social media accounts have also not been active since she went missing. And her last bank account activity was recorded on May 14, the day before she disappeared. Bromley had previously been arrested after police allegedly found weapons in her silver Hyundai ix35 - the car which has been at the centre of police focus. The day before, a new number plate was discovered to have been painted and taped over the Hyundai's original plate. Bromley appeared in the Bundaberg Magistrates Court last Monday, after cops alleged they found a shortened firearm, ammunition and two replica handguns inside her grey Hyundai. She was charged with two counts of authority required to possess explosives, and one count each of possessing and acquiring restricted items and unlawful possession of weapons. Additional ammunition was also reportedly found at the home. Pheobe Bishop timeline by Harvey Geh May 14: Pheobe Bishop's last known bank transaction takes place. May 15: Pheobe is reportedly dropped off near Bundaberg Airport's terminal by her housemates, James Wood and Tanika Bromley, in order to catch a flight to Brisbane and then to Perth to visit her boyfriend.
