A TEENAGER has received a criminal conviction for not being insured for her car – before she had received it for her 18th birthday.
The waitress, from Poole in Dorset, was gifted a Fiat for her landmark birthday, but mistakenly did not insure it immediately.

The teen explained in a letter to Ipswich magistrates court that she never drove the car as she had not received her licence at the time of the offence.
However, the DVLA charged her with keeping an uninsured vehicle and brought a criminal prosecution over the unpaid bill.
She pleaded guilty to the offence, which took place a few weeks before her 18th birthday.
'My family got the car for me as my 18th birthday present," she wrote.
"I was still 17 at the time of the offence and had not actually been given the keys to the car and was not aware that it would be mine.'
She added that she and her dad have reading difficulties, and only realised the seriousness of what was happening when a friend read her the official letter.
She continued: 'I have never used the car as I have still not passed my driving test.
'My dad is willing to pay the fine for me as he thinks this is his fault.
'He receives Universal Credit and PIP for his mental health, and I have just finished college and currently have a part-time job as a waitress on the minimum wage for an 18-year-old.
'I was a good student in school and college studying art and have never been in any trouble in my life.

"We just misunderstood the letter, I thought it said I had to SORN it or pay a fine if it doesn't get sorted.
'I am very sorry.'
A magistrate slapped the teen with a 12-month conditional discharge instead of a fine.
But she chose not to send the case back to the DVLA for an extra public interest check.
The teen will now have a criminal conviction, and must also pay a £20 court fee.
It comes after news that one in six drivers admitted they have been behind the wheel without insurance.
A poll of 2,000 adults found 24 per cent of these did so only on a short journey, believing cover wasn't necessary.
A fifth unknowingly committed the offence when their policy had expired, but 17 per cent did it as they wanted to save money.
And 15 percent drove uninsured because renewing their policy was a life admin task they kept putting off renewing.
Learner drivers are twice as likely to drive uninsured compared to those with a full driving license (37 per cent).
James Armstrong, a young driver expert at flexible car insurer Veygo, which commissioned the research, said: 'Driving without insurance is a serious offence that can result in hefty fines, points on your licence, or even having your car seized.
'It's worrying to see so many people are driving uninsured, especially as there are affordable options available for short-term cover.'

Leggat made current managing director Cara's life hell as their now 12-year marriage broke down. He repeatedly slapped his estranged partner and later pushed her into a kitchen cabinet which caused her an injury. Leggat wished his wife dead notably after he was unhappy about a water bottle he received as a birthday present. He also attempted to stop Cara from seeing her dad - company chairman Fred Laing and mum Catherine Laing, both 74. Brave Cara finally reported matters to the police having initially been scared that a conviction would affect Leggat's job prospects. Unemployed Leggat was found guilty in June of engaging in a course of behaviour which was abusive to his partner or ex-partner. Sheriff Allan McKay told him at today's sentencing: "On some level these are an incredibly sad set of circumstances. "This offer of a community payback order is a direct alternative to custody. "If you breach it and don't see it through, you will find yourself going to prison." The Glasgow Sheriff Court trial heard that Leggat and Cara were married in 2013 and worked together at the firm. Cara stated to the court that between September and November 2022 was "the worst time of my life" and took a panic attack. She recalled that in October 2022 she had made a re-heated sausage casserole dinner for the pair. Leggat told her to serve a "better looking meal" which he said was suitable for a child and called her names. Leggat told wife 'I hope you die in your sleep' The next incident took place in January 2023 as a result of Leggat's birthday plans. She said: "He was most aggrieved and disappointed at a lack of effort to mark his birthday in terms of a meal out. "He also didn't rate his presents which included a sports water bottle that I bought him." The water bottle - said to have been made famous on TikTok - was deemed "childish and ridiculous" by Leggat. The pair were given hospitality tickets to Hampden Park in February 2023 for an Old Firm League Cup Final clash. Cara stated that when they walked home after the match and she was pushed into a bush by Leggat She said: "I ended up in a bush or my back against a bush as a result of the force as a result of the slap to my face." When asked how she felt about the incident, Cara replied that it was "upsetting." Leggat "discouraged" Cara to see her parents which also included a curfew which made her "twitch" when it was close. "I didn't want the man not to get an international job." Leggat, now of Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, told the court in his evidence that he left the company in 2023 with Cara taking over his role. Duncan McPhie, defending, told the sentencing: "My client admits, accepts and regrets the behaviour. "He is remorseful and regretful and he is sorry. "In all the circumstances, he tenders his apologies to the court. "It is probably too late to apologise to his victim, but he has asked me to apologise the behaviour he was convicted of."

King Charles appeared alongside him on a special episode in 2022. West Mercia Police confirmed charges against the dad of three, with a magistrates' court date set for next Wednesday. A spokesperson said: 'Jason Blades, 55, of Claverley in Shropshire, has been charged with two counts of rape. "He is due to appear at Telford magistrates' court on 13 August 2025.' Blades was awarded an MBE in 2022 for services to craft while King Charles appeared on the Repair Shop the same year. The TV star is currently awaiting trial on a separate charge of controlling and coercive behaviour against estranged wife Lisa-Marie Zbozen, which he has denied. Blades was arrested in May 2024 - on the same day fitness instructor Lisa announced her decision to end their 18-month marriage. In September Blades was charged. His actions allegedly caused Lisa 'to fear, on at least two occasions, that violence will be used against her'. The presenter pleaded not guilty to the charge — which relates to the period between January 1, 2023 and September 12, 2024 — at a court hearing last October. He is due to attend Worcester crown court today for a pre-trial review regarding the charge. Blades, who married Lisa in an intimate ceremony in Barbados in November 2022, took a break from filming following his arrest. Sources said the decision was also linked to the death of his uncle Richard Braithwaite, 72, in North London in March. A neighbour has been charged with murder. Blades was also dropped from The Repair Shop's live show, Secrets From The Barn, and quietly removed from promotional material. His Repair Shop co-star, horologist Steve Fletcher, revealed in March he had visited Blades while on a break from the live tour. Steve shared a photograph of himself with Blades on Instagram with the caption: 'In a break from our 'Secrets From the Barn' Tour, I popped in to see Jay the other day for a cup of tea and a lovely chat. 'It was great to catch up. Hope to see him again soon.' The BBC later replaced Blades with Roman Kemp for the Christmas special of the popular series. Blades also resigned as chancellor of Buckinghamshire New University 'with immediate effect' following the initial charge. It said: 'We thank Jay for his loyal service to the university and will be making no further comment.' As well as fronting The Repair Shop since 2017, Blades also hosted BBC shows including Money For Nothing and Jay Blades' Home Fix. The incident allegedly took place at Edinburgh Airport on a Ryanair plane heading to Alicante, Spain. According to Tristan, 39, the flight was set to depart at 09:45am but was allegedly delayed due to staff sickness. After the alarm sounded, the pilot allegedly informed a passenger he would be removed from the plane. Tristan said over six officers boarded the aircraft to remove the man who was taken into a van. Police confirmed a 21-year-old was charged in connection with an aviation offence. The footage was captured on 3 July. 'The smoke alarm in the toilet went off,' Tristan told Luxury Travel Daily. 'The pilot then came out after the air-stewardess explained what happened and then a lad was removed from the plane. 'A young lad waited for over six police officers to come on board.
