Home Minister Amit Shah felicitates Chhattisgarh police officers
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (June 7, 2025) met police officers from Chhattisgarh who played a key role in recent anti-Maoist operations. Congratulating them on the success of these operations, he said that the Union Government is 'committed to freeing India from the menace of Maoism'. In a post on X, the Home Minister said, 'Met the officers who played a crucial role in the recent anti-Maoist operations and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. The police officers were felicitated for recent operation carried out by the Chhattisgarh Police, including its District Reserve Guards (DRG) units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur districts, in the interior areas of Abujhmad from May 18 to 21. On May 21, during an encounter in the forests of Boter village, 27 Maoists, including Communist Party of India (Maoist) general secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju, alias Gaganna, were killed. A huge quantity of arms and ammunition too were recovered. The officers involved in the operation, including Chhattisgarh Director-General of Police Arun Dev Gautam; Additional DGP (Anti-Maoist Operations/SIB/STF) Vivekanand; Inspector-General of Police (Bastar Range) Sundarraj; Superintendent of Police (Narayanpur) Prabhat Kumar; Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Jitendra Yadav; and Superintendent of Police (Maoist-free Bastar District) Shalabh Singh, were felicitated by Mr. Shah. The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai; Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sharma; Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan; Director, Intelligence Bureau Tapan Kumar Deka; and several other senior officials.

Chhattisgarh: Seven Naxalites, including two top leaders, killed in three-day operation in Bijapur
Bijapur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 7 (ANI): Seven Naxalites, including two high-ranking leaders, were killed in a major anti-Naxal operation conducted by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district between June 5 and 7, officials said on Saturday. According to officials, the operation, led jointly by the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) in the dense forest region of the National Park area, also resulted in the seizure of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and communication equipment. Inspector General (IG) of Police, Bastar Range, P Sundarraj, said that so far, a total of 7 bodies of Naxal cadres have been recovered by security forces during the ongoing anti-Naxal operations in the National Park area of Bijapur district. These include the bodies of Central Committee Member Gautam @ Sudhakar and Bhaskar, a Telangana State Committee Member. 'It is worth mentioning that, as part of the continued anti-Naxal operations in the National Park area of Bijapur district, a total of 7 Naxal bodies have been recovered following multiple encounters that took place on the 5th, 6th, and 7th of June 2025,' he added. The security forces conducted multiple encounters with Maoists in the dense forest terrain of the National Park area over three consecutive days. During the combing and search operations that followed the encounters, they recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and communication devices from the encounter sites. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of the five remaining deceased Naxals. 'Search and area domination operations are still ongoing in the surrounding forested terrain. A few of the security personnel suffered injuries due to snake bites, honey bee stings, dehydration and other operational injuries. They are being provided with appropriate medical attention. Right now, their condition is normal and out of danger,' added the IG. According to official data, 186 Maoists have been killed in counter-insurgency operations across the Bastar Range in 2025 so far. Between 2024 and 2025, over 403 Maoists have been neutralised in the region following sustained anti-Naxal efforts. Commenting on the recent success, Chhattisgarh Speaker Raman Singh referred to the deadline set by Union Home Minister Amit Shah for eliminating naxalism and said, 'Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also set a deadline that naxalism will be eliminated from India by 2026. The police are also working with full force, and we will get 100 per cent success.' (ANI).

RAIPUR: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday met with Chhattisgarh's senior police and intelligence officers who played a pivotal role in recent anti-Naxal operations in LWE affected regions. Shah felicitated Chhattisgarh Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, Vivekananda Sinha, additional DG (Anti-Naxal ops), P Sundarraj, Bastar range inspector general of police and three SPs. The meeting took place in New Delhi, where Shah personally congratulated the team on what is being hailed as one of the most significant counter-insurgency successes ever in the fight against Left-Wing Extremism. Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai and deputy CM Vijay Sharma were present during the meeting. In a post on social media platform X, Shah wrote, 'Met the officers who played a crucial role in the recent anti-Naxal operations and congratulated them on the historic success of these operations. Shah's remarks come in the wake of a major operation conducted from May 18-21 in Abujhmarh region — one of the most remote and challenging terrains in central India. In a critical encounter on May 21, security forces gunned down 27 Maoists, including the CPI (Maoist) General Secretary and Polit Bureau member Basavaraju alias Gaganna. He was one of the most wanted Maoist leaders in the country. A substantial cache of arms and ammunition was also recovered. Security forces involved in the operation included District Reserve Guard (DRG) units from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Kondagaon, and Bijapur districts, working in coordination under the leadership of top police officials. During the felicitation event, Shah also honoured Prabhat Kumar, SP Narayanpur, Jitendra Yadav, Bijapurand Shalabh Sinha, SP Bastar, in presence of CM Sai, state home minister Sharma, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, and several senior officers from the Centre and state security apparatus. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai in a message to Shah said, 'It is due to your strong resolve and inspiring leadership that historic success is becoming possible in the fight against Naxalism in Chhattisgarh. This battle to end red terror is at a decisive turning point, and by March 2026, the complete eradication of Maoism from both the state and the nation is certain.
