ANI Telangana BJP chief slams Congress govt over phone tapping case, demands CBI probe Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao on Saturday criticised the Congress-led state government for its handling of the ongoing phone tapping case, alleging a lack of seriousness in the investigation.
Speaking to the ANI, Rao noted that BJP leader Bandi Sanjay was summoned to record his statement in connection with the case.
"Today, the phone tapping case investigation was in progress, and Bandi Sanjay was called for his statement. The Congress government doesn't appear to be serious about the issue. So far, they have arrested only the officials, but they have not laid their hands on any political leaders who are responsible for the phone tapping. The CBI is the only answer for it. There will be a proper investigation done only if the investigation is given to the CBI. We demand that this phone tapping case be given to CBI for further investigation," he said.On Friday, Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar demanded that the Telangana government hand over the investigation into the alleged phone tapping during the previous BRS regime to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)."It has been confirmed that judges' phones were tapped, right? Then, does the SIT even have the authority to summon judges and record their statements? Keeping this in mind, I demand that the phone tapping case be handed over to the CBI. If a letter is written to the CBI, they are ready to investigate," Bandi Sanjay told reporters after appearing before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case.
Bandi Sanjay alleged that his own phone was tapped under the pretext of Maoist activity, along with those of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and several BRS MLAS during the KCR-led government."I appeared for questioning today as per the notice given by the SIT officials. It has come to light that my phones were being tapped every moment. I was even shocked to discover several things. They tapped the phones using the pretext of Maoists. Along with me, the phones of Revanth Reddy and BRS MLAs were also tapped. In fact, I was the first person to expose the issue of phone tapping," he said."I was shocked to hear the revelations made by the SIT police during the inquiry. Whatever political programs I planned, the police already knew about them in advance. They used to call our staff and ask, 'You are planning this particular program, right?' Now I understand--it was all because of the phone tapping. That's why, during KCR's regime, everyone used only WhatsApp calls. Even beggars wouldn't use regular phone calls--this shows the extent of atrocities under the BRS rule," the Karimnagar MP said.He added that he has handed over all related information and evidence to the SIT.
The phone tapping issue had earlier triggered a political row in June this year, when BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) issued a legal notice to Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud over allegations.

BRS blames Congress, BJP for urea shortage in Telangana

HYDERABAD Senior leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy has said farmers in the State are facing a serious crisis of urea shortage at a time when cultivation of Kharif crops has gained pace with rains over the last two weeks, as the State and Central governments are speaking in different tones on the issue. Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said despite having eight MPs in Lok Sabha from Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was unable to supply urea in time. Instead of speaking on the Congress government, the BJP leaders were biding time on speaking against BRS and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay was unable to see the poor water level in Lower Manair Dam. However, the Congress government was not willing to switch on the Kannepally pump house to give water to the rain-deficit areas while huge quantities of water was flowing down BJP was also not interested in building pressure on the government to do so. The sole objective the two parties appears be defaming BRS come what may, he observed. While the Congress government was planning to harass its political opponents with the help of Kaleshwaram Commission report, the bickering in BJP had forced the party leadership to include Eatala Rajender's name in it, Mr. Venkata Ramana Reddy said and added that the two parties were making Kaleshwaram project defunct in the name of NDSA report. He also criticised the Congress government for its lack of sincerity in implementing 42% reservation to backward classes.

LoP Adhikari to hold convention against isolation of RG Kar rape and murder victim's parents

West Bengal Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and senior BJP leader, Suvendu Adhikari, on Sunday, has decided to organise a convention in the neighbourhood of the RG Kar rape and murder victim's parents to sensitise people against the alleged isolation of the elderly couple. The decision from the BJP leader came after learning that parents of the RG Kar victim have been isolated in their neighbourhood by members of the Trinamool Congress. LoP Adhikari alleged that the elderly couple have been isolated because they continue to demand justice for their deceased daughter and called for a "Nabanna Avijan" (March to the State Secretariat) on the anniversary of the RG Kar rape and murder incident. "We have come to know that the ruling party (Trinamool Congress) is behaving in this way towards the parents of the victim. I am in touch with the family. Despite our limited capacity, we are thinking of holding a convention against the injustice that Trinamool is doing to the victim's parents," the LoP said. LoP Adhikari, along with other BJP legislators, will organise these conventions to stand in solidarity with the victim's parents in such tumultous times. A BJP insider said on Sunday that such conventions will be held for two days. "Through this convention, LoP Adhikari wants to reach out to every household in the neighbourhood where the victim's parents live. Preparations have started to organise the event at the earliest. As part of the programme, BJP MLAs will hold meetings as well as conduct door-to-door campaign in the area and highlight the ruling party's treatment of the victim's parents," the party insider added. The BJP MLAs will also visit the markets where they can meet a large number of people. Apart from this, a leaflet mentioning the RG Kar Hospital incident and the role of the ruling Trinamool Congress in the incident will be distributed in the area. The Trinamool Congress, meanwhile, took a dig at LoP Adhikari for planning to hold such convention. Trinamool Congress MLA and party's Chief Whip, Nirmal Ghosh, said, "Our party sympathises with the parents of the deceased doctor. It is not true that we have isolated them. It is true that sometimes they go to the BJP, sometimes to the CPM, sometimes to the Maoists. Since they have lost their daughter, I will not say anything about them. But I think there is no need for any convention as the area is peaceful." The RG Kar rape and murder victim's mother was discharged from the private hospital on Sunday afternoon where she was admitted following her injury during Saturday's "Nabanna Avijan". She had to be hospitalised after she fell ill amid police action against the protesters. The victim's mother alleged that she was beaten up by the policemen after she, along with her husband and other protesters, tried to march towards Nabanna (State Secretariat). The victim's mother and the BJP leaders alleged that in the police action, the sacred conch shell-bangle on her wrist, traditionally believed to be the symbolic representation of married Hindu women, was broken. Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma said that they are examining the footage of the CCTV cameras and video footage to ascertain whether the victim's mother was beaten up or not.

Robert Vadra dodged questions, put onus on deceased associates in money laundering probe: ED

Robert Vadra, businessman and husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has been accused by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of giving evasive and non-cooperative replies during questioning about a suspicious 2008 land deal in Gurugram's Shikohpur village. According to the ED's 332-page chargesheet, filed before a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Delhi, Vadra repeatedly avoided direct answers and instead shifted full responsibility onto his three deceased associates, refusing to clarify his own role in the deal. His reluctance to cooperate significantly delayed the investigation and obstructed the agency's efforts to trace the flow of illicit funds. The federal agency alleges that Vadra used his political connections, including influence through former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, to pressurise the government officials into approving the land transaction, which involved alleged fraudulent practices and money laundering. The chargesheet reveals that Vadra's company, Skylight Hospitality Private Limited, acquired 3.5 acres of land for Rs 7.50 crore in a deal where no real payment was made. The cheque mentioned in the sale deed was never issued by Vadra, and its value was significantly below market rates. Despite these irregularities, the deal was pushed through by the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP), allegedly after backdated approvals and altered plans to qualify for commercial licensing. Throughout the investigation, Vadra's evasiveness complicated the probe. The ED claims his refusal to provide clear responses hindered uncovering the full scope of the alleged money laundering and fraud. The agency has identified Rs 58 crore as proceeds of crime and provisionally attached 43 immovable properties worth Rs 38.69 crore linked to the case. Vadra and seven companies tied to him stand accused alongside others. The special PMLA court has scheduled August 28 to consider the ED's complaint and issued notices to Vadra and co-accused.
