Complete city projects faster: Telangana Transport Minister to officials
HYDERABAD: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has directed officials to expedite land acquisition for ongoing development projects in the city. At a review meeting with GHMC officials, he stressed the need to fast-track works under the Hyderabad City Innovation and Transformative Infrastructure (HCITI) project and complete pending flyovers under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP).
At a review meeting on Saturday, the district in-charge minister instructed that the Falaknuma RoB be completed by July and the Shastripuram RoB by August. He said flyovers and underpasses must be prioritised in high-traffic areas.
Noting that 30% of Telangana's population lives in Hyderabad, he emphasised the government's focus on improving infrastructure, sanitation and civic services. He directed officials to desilt stormwater drains and deploy monsoon emergency teams on main and internal roads to avoid waterlogging.
With the Jawaharnagar dumpyard nearing capacity, GHMC has sought land for a new site and requested cooperation from district collectors.

Hyderabad: The excise department's call for applications for 28 (2b) bars in the GHMC area and its nearby areas has attracted an overwhelming response, with over 1,600 applications submitted just one day before the June 6 deadline. It is anticipated that this number could reach 2,000. The department has opened the tender process for licences in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as well as for individual licences in the municipalities of Mahbubnagar, Nizamabad and Jalpally. This includes bars that lost their licences for failing to pay fees or submit the necessary documents within 90 days of receiving their initial licence. There are around 2,500 bars across the state. "While this surge is positive, it is challenging to penalise a shop for not maintaining the required distance from hospitals and educational institutions. Current licence holders are struggling to remain in the same location," the sources said. Meanwhile, the excise department has reported a notable 7% increase in revenue for the 2024–25 financial year. The Telangana govt is banking on a new excise policy and a revision of land values to boost revenue. The 2025-26 budget projects tax revenue of Rs 1.45 lakh crore, encompassing income from liquor, GST and other sales taxes, as well as land parcel sales. Sources mentioned that a new excise policy is expected to be introduced this year and that the govt is anticipating significant income from application fees for liquor outlets. Indiramma houses in G+3 buildings for poor in 16 slums across Hyderabad: Telangana Revenue Minister
Telangana government would construct Indiramma houses in ground-plus-three-storey buildings for the poor in 16 slums across Hyderabad. Similar course of action is being formulated for other districts. People were unwilling to shift to houses constructed on the outskirts of the State capital as they would lose livelihood. Considering this, a decision was taken to construct houses in the localities, said Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy. Besides Hyderabad, it would be implemented in Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar and other urban localities. Though 42,000 houses were constructed away from Hyderabad, only 19,000 chose to occupy them. Recent field level inspection revealed that only 13,000 are living there, said Mr. Reddy at a review meeting on the Indiramma Houses held on Friday (June 6, 2025). The focus of providing the houses shifted ti the poor in the urban localities after the scheme was streamlined in rural Telangana. Around 10.71 lakh applications for the houses were received from 150 divisions in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). It was learnt that around seven lakh were found to be eligible for the houses.

GHMC officials told to rev up land acquisition for Rasoolpura flyover
Hyderabad: The city's infrastructure is set to undergo a major transformation, as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has taken up the flyover project at Rasoolpura under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative. Commissioner RV Karnan directed officials to expedite land acquisition for the flyover. On Thursday, as part of the Secunderabad Railway Station redevelopment, RV Karnan inspected nearby bus stops and reviewed the progress of related infrastructure works. He also visited the proposed site for the Rasoolpura flyover and instructed officials to initiate immediate land acquisition. Officials informed the Commissioner that a 24-meter stretch of land from the railway boundary is required for the project. Project SE Srinivas requested the Commissioner to allocate alternate land for the existing bus stop to facilitate its relocation. The inspection aimed to ensure smooth progress of infrastructure works and minimise disruptions. The Rasoolpura flyover project was proposed in 2019 during the tenure of the BRS government. However, the project continues to face inordinate delays, as 1.62 acres of land belonging to the Inter-State Police Wireless Staff Quarters still need to be transferred to the GHMC. Last month, Commissioner RV Karnan, along with Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran, inspected various ongoing and proposed works in the Secunderabad zone. The inspection covered key areas, including Tarnaka, Chilkalguda, Patigadda, Rasoolpura, and Prakash Nagar. Karnan reviewed the construction of the Tarnaka Junction Island, landscaping plans, and the proposed site for the Chilkalguda H-CITI Road under Bridge (RuB). He also assessed the proposed AOC Road, the Rasoolpura flyover site, alignment works, and land acquisition needed for the expansion of the Patigadda Railway Over Bridge. The Commissioner directed officials to address waterlogging issues near Prakash Nagar and Hyderabad Public School (HPS) by immediately initiating desilting works. The state government has accorded administrative sanction for 23 works under the H-CITI Project, amounting to Rs 5,942 crore, superseding the earlier sanction of Rs 4,305 crore.
