Box Office: ‘Jurassic World Rebirth' Surpasses $750 Million, ‘F1' Becomes Brad Pitt's Highest-Grossing Movie Ever
Universal's dinosaur tentpole, which rebooted the pre-historic series with Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali at the helm, has grossed $766 million globally after five weekends of release. It's one of three Hollywood films this year — Disney's 'Lilo & Stitch' ($1 billion) and Warner Bros. 'A Minecraft Movie' ($955 million) are the other two — to clear the $750 million mark so far. International audiences have been particularly enthusiastic, with overseas revenues contributing a massive $448 million to the total bounty. United Kingdom and Ireland ($42 million), Mexico ($34 million) and Germany ($28 million) rank as the top-earning territories. Those are mighty returns, however the latest 'Jurassic' has to keep climbing to near the heights of the prior sequel trilogy led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, each of which grossed $1 billion globally.

'F1' is also staying strong at the box office, surpassing $545 million globally in its sixth lap around the track. With those ticket sales, the racing drama now stands as Brad Pitt's highest-grossing film in history, overtaking the haul of 2013's 'World War Z' ($540 million, not adjusted for inflation). 'F1' had long ago overtaken Martin Scorsese's 'Killers of the Flower Moon' ($158 million worldwide) and Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' ($221 million) as Apple's largest theatrical film ever.
'Superman' also crossed a notable milestone with $550 million globally, a haul that includes $235 million overseas and $316 million domestically after four weekends. The Warner Bros. and DC comic book adventure has been underperforming at the international box office, at least compared to North America, which has accounted for nearly 60% of returns. (It's usually the inverse for all-audience tentpoles.) So far, the biggest markets have been the U.K. with $32 million, Mexico with $21.8 million and Brazil with $15 million.
Meanwhile Disney and Marvel's 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' remained atop international charts with $39.6 million from 52 territories in its second weekend of release, declining 58% from its debut. So far, the superhero adaptation has grossed $368.7 million worldwide, including $170.3 million internationally and $198.4 million in North America. Overseas, the biggest territories are U.K. ($20.5 million), Mexico ($20.4 million) and France ($10.2 million).
In terms of newcomers, Universal and DreamWorks Animation's heist comedy 'The Bad Guys 2' landed with $16.3 million from 58 territories. Those ticket sales are slightly ahead of 2022's 'The Bad Guys' in terms of like-for-like markets. Domestically, the sequel debuted to $22.8 million for a global start of $44.5 million. Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, Craig Robinson lead the voice cast of 'The Bad Guys 2,' which carries an $80 million price tag and follows the newly reformed baddies as they emerge from retirement to perform one last heist.
Another new release, Paramount's 'The Naked Gun' reboot, collected $11.5 million from 46 markets in its opening weekend. The film, starring Liam Neeson as bumbling police detective and Pamela Anderson as his unlikely accomplice, opened to $17 million in North America, bringing its worldwide tally to $28.5 million.

Following the crash around 6:30 a.m., Campos was rushed to a hospital and later died as a result of her injuries. El Financiero also reported that authorities are investigating whether the accident was caused by excessive speed or distracted driving. Campos began her career as a nurse, and hosted the local Chihuahua TV show La tertulia. Upon the show's conclusion, she auditioned for MasterChef Mexico and competed on its fourth overall season in 2018. She ultimately placed sixth, and returned the following year for the show's "La Revancha" season alongside other former competitors. In her second outing on the show, Campos placed 11th. Campos launched her TikTok account in 2020, and had just under 100,000 followers at the time of her death. Willi Velázquez, who competed against Campos during both of her MasterChef seasons, paid tribute to his late costar in an Instagram post containing an old video of the two competitors singing together on a bus. "This memory from 2018 just appeared on my cloud," he wrote in Spanish. "Such sad news for all of us who knew Yan… My deepest condolences to her entire family. Rest in peace."Ismael Zhu, who won MasterChef Mexico in 2018, commented his condolences on Velázquez's post, also in Spanish. "She will be missed," he wrote. The Netflix Assassin Movie More Deserving Of A Prequel Than John Wick
This year, we got the John Wick prequel spinoff Ballerina, set between the events of John Wick 3 and John Wick 4. It underperformed at the box office. It didn't have to be that way. There were already other action movies ready-made for a prequel that were ignored. At the top of our list is Kate, the Netflix film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead as a ruthless assassin. Why are we so confident that Kate deserves a prequel just as much (if not more so than) John Wick? Without getting too much into the way of spoilers, Kate is a movie in which our heroine sets out on one last bloody adventure, and it ends with enough finality that we know that Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character won't be picking up her sniper rifle ever again. We love the idea of a prequel because it shares another important quality with the John Wick films: specifically, our titular character's misadventures can be as by-the-numbers or as ambitiously odd as the writers want. In short, we can always expect more John Wick adventures in sequels, but the only way we can expect more Kate is by exploring this character and her world in a prequel. That brings us to a more relevant question, then: out of all the films that tried to bite John Wick's style, why is Kate the one that we want to return to? The short answer is that Kate managed to deliver one kickass action scene after another while engaging in some beautifully subtle world-building. In this way, it surpassed rivals like Gunpowder Milkshake (a movie whose colorful characters couldn't disguise its weak story and lore) and Nobody (a movie that played its main character's deal up so mysteriously that it completely killed our curiosity about his past). Additionally, we love the idea of a Kate prequel because it shares another important quality with the John Wick films: specifically, our titular character's misadventures can be as by-the-numbers or as ambitiously odd as the writers want. Kate's skills as a hitwoman for hire certainly would make it easy to create 'villain of the week' television stories, for example, in which she tangles with one perfectly cast bad guy after another. We want a prequel even more than a John Wick prequel because there is so much of this character and her world left to explore. But a prequel series also has room to tell more powerful stories, including what it was like for Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character to be raised by an employer-turned-father figure (Woody Harrelson) who is destined to eventually betray her. In addition, the Kate we see in the original movie has followed in John Wick's footsteps in another big way: She wants to walk away from the entire bloody affair and start a brand new life. We'd love a prequel that explored Kate's background and how she transitioned from someone who loved what she did to someone who couldn't wait to bail. We could even learn more about her understandable hesitation to commit murders in front of children… where did this personal code come from, and how much has it cost her to maintain it? The final reason that we want a Kate prequel even more than a John Wick prequel is that there is so much of this character and her world left to explore. While later Wick sequels threw in everything but the kitchen sink in terms of action and story, part of Kate's charm as a movie is that it is so wonderfully streamlined. That kept the story moving at a breakneck pace, but if we slowed things down with a prequel series, we could learn more about Kate's background, her colleagues, her family, and the future she dreams of for herself (all of which the finished movie completely glosses over). Realistically, we know it will be difficult for Netflix to create a Kate prequel series to rival the John Wick prequel series, especially since Mary Elizabeth Winstead is so busy playing Hera Syndulla in Star Wars. Still, that means she is spending plenty of time in the fictional galaxy far, far away that helped to make prequels commonplace in Hollywood. Maybe that will be enough for her to trade her blaster for a sniper rifle and help us return to the universe of Kate, one of the coolest action movies we've ever seen.

Hudson asked the musician if he was dating someone, and Common had the perfect response. "I'm in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life," he said. "She's smart, she loves God, she has something real down-to-earth about her, she's talented." Hudson gave PEOPLE an update on her relationship in June 2024 at the 2024 Daytime Emmy Awards.
