Egypt's garment exports surge 22% to surpass $1bn in 4M 2025

Egypt's ready-made garment (RMG) exports soared by 22% during the first four months of 2025, reaching $1.028bn compared to $840m during the same period in 2024, according to the latest report by the Apparel Export Council of Egypt (AECE).
The council's data showed a strong monthly performance, with exports in April 2025 alone rising by 25% year-on-year to $223m, up from $179m. March also posted significant growth, with exports increasing by 23% to $254m.
The United States remained Egypt's top export destination, with imports totaling $384m between January and April, marking an 11% increase from $345m in the same period last year. Europe followed as the second-largest market, with imports jumping 39% to $259m, up from $186m.
Exports to Arab countries grew modestly by 6%, reaching $190m, while exports to African nations (excluding Arab states) recorded the highest growth rate—skyrocketing by 101%. Exports to other global markets also surged by 50%, totaling $190m compared to $127m during the same period in 2024.
Fadel Marzouk, Chairperson of the AECE, attributed the sector's robust performance to a combination of improved global demand, a broader export base, and the council's focused efforts to open new markets and diversify demand sources. He emphasized that this growth confirms the effectiveness of the council's strategy, which aims to increase exports by 30–35% annually.
Marzouk highlighted that the strong results reflect intensive efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian apparel. These include training initiatives, support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), international promotion campaigns, and the resolution of export-related challenges.
Looking ahead, Marzouk said the AECE plans to double exports by 2031, targeting $12bn in annual garment exports. This goal will be pursued through expansion into new African and Asian markets, capitalizing on Egypt's preferential trade agreements, and boosting value-added production. Key components of the strategy include modernizing production lines and establishing two new textile and garment cities in Fayoum and Minya.
He also stressed the importance of continued government support, particularly through export rebate programs, streamlined logistics, and greater access to affordable financing. These factors, he noted, are critical for strengthening Egypt's export capacity and enhancing its ability to generate foreign currency.

Half of Syria's Population Faces Food Insecurity

Israa Farhan Syria is grappling with a deepening food crisis as the worst drought in 36 years slashes wheat production by nearly 40 percent, intensifying pressure on a cash-strapped government unable to secure large-scale imports. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has warned that around three million Syrians could face severe hunger, with more than half of the country's 25.6 million people currently suffering from food insecurity. Syrian experts say the crisis has been compounded by a significant drop in funding from international and UN organizations, worsening the humanitarian situation across the country. Millions of internally displaced Syrians remain unable to return to their original homes due to destroyed infrastructure and ongoing instability. Sheikhmous Ahmed, head of the Office for Organizations and Humanitarian Affairs in Syria, said years of conflict have devastated the country's infrastructure, agriculture and social life, fueling waves of internal displacement and external migration. He noted that the absence of a long-term economic recovery plan has deepened the humanitarian collapse. Ahmed called on both Arab and international partners to provide urgent support for Syria's economy, stressing the need to rebuild stability in the north and east, the country's main agricultural hubs. He also urged international companies to help restore oil fields, rehabilitate industrial and commercial infrastructure and reopen border crossings to global trade. Syrian economist Khorshid Alika highlighted the devastating economic toll of the conflict, pointing out that factories were abandoned or destroyed, while much of the skilled workforce fled. The education system, both at school and university levels, has sharply deteriorated, leaving millions of students without access to learning and driving illiteracy rates higher. Alika added that the Syrian pound has lost over 93 percent of its value, while domestic production and exports have collapsed, forcing the country to rely almost entirely on imports and remittances. Despite signing economic and trade agreements with Arab and foreign companies, he noted that these deals have yet to deliver any tangible results. He also warned that international aid to Syria has significantly declined, while political instability has made services scarce and unaffordable for most households. The average income now covers only a few days of living expenses, leaving millions on the brink of poverty. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News The Jessica Radcliffe Orca Attack? 100% Fake and AI-Generated

MSMEDA Partners With Franchise International to Empower Arab Brands

Both parties will develop programmes aimed at improving franchise readiness, helping brands meet international standards, and providing technical and strategic guidance. Aug 19, 2025 Egypt's Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia's Franchise International to support and empower Egyptian and Saudi brands, accelerate franchise operations, and prepare local businesses for regional and international markets. As part of the partnership, both parties will develop programmes aimed at improving franchise readiness, helping brands meet international standards, and providing technical and strategic guidance. This includes supporting local businesses in food, services, and retail sectors as they transition into franchise operations. The collaboration is part of the preparations for the upcoming Egyptian–Saudi International Franchise Exhibition, scheduled for early 2026. The exhibition is expected to host over 300 brands, bringing together franchisors, investors, and support institutions from across the Arab world. According to MSMEDA, around 70 Egyptian brands are already receiving support to scale through franchising, including guidance on branding, operations, and market entry strategies.
