Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton to have MRI on calf per report

Indiana Pacers star point guard Tyrese Haliburton is believed to have strained his right calf in Monday's loss in Game 5 of the NBA Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN. He will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury.
He left the game and had a wrap on his leg on the bench but came back in and managed to play 34 minutes. However, it was obvious the Pacers' All-NBA point guard was hobbled and he finished the game without making a basket (0-for-6 from the field), scoring only on four free throws.
"He's not 100%," Carlisle said. "It's pretty clear. But I don't think he's going to miss the next game. We were concerned at halftime, and he insisted on playing. I thought he made a lot of really good things happen in the second half. But he's not 100%. There's a lot of guys in the series that aren't."

After the game, Haliburton said the injury is in the "same area" as the knock he took in Game 2 but said he didn't "know if they're related." Haliburton had been getting treatment on his right ankle but the wrap he wore on the bench was around his calf.
There are three grades of calf strains according to the bostonsportsmedicine.com:
First degree/mild: A pulled muscle with a structural disruption of less than 5%. There's a 1-3 week recovery period.
Second degree/moderate: More significant but incomplete muscle tear. Recovery period is 3-6 weeks.
Third degree/severe: A complete tear of the muscle/tendon unit and can take months to fully heal.

'It's the NBA Finals," Haliburton said. "It's the Finals, man. I've worked my whole life to be here. I want to be out there to compete and help my teammates any way I can. I was not great (Monday) but any means, but it's not really a thought in my mind to not play. If I can walk, I want to play. They understand that. It is what it is and gotta get ready to go for Game 6.'
He dished out six assists and had six rebounds but also committed three turnovers and was -13 for the game.

What routes can the Philadelphia 76ers take in the 2025 NBA Draft?

What routes can the Philadelphia 76ers take in the 2025 NBA Draft? The Philadelphia 76ers hold the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA draft and they have a handful of routes they can go down in order to build a roster that can challenge the Indiana Pacers for the Eastern Conference crown in the 2025-26 season. The Sixers are in a peculiar position. President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey and his staff are committed to building with the Big 3 of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey leading the way. However, this roster needs some youth. Embiid is getting older and there is still the question mark of how he will look when the 2025-26 season rolls around when considering he is recovering from yet another knee surgery. With that being said, here are the routes the Sixers can go in for the draft: Make a selection at No. 3 and call it a day There are plenty of players worthy of this selection at No. 3 for Philadelphia. The Sixers can look at guys like Rutgers star Ace Bailey or Baylor's VJ Edgecombe as the top options, while Duke's duo of Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach makes sense for this group. Texas' Tre Johnson can make a case for being selected as well. Either way, the Sixers will be adding a young piece at the top of the draft with star potential as every player mentioned has skills that will translate to the next level. At this point--a huge emphasis on at this point--it appears Edgecombe will be the pick for Philadelphia if it stays at No. 3. With that being said, all of those players have their flaws. One has to wonder if the Sixers will have time to develop those young pieces while also having their eyes on competing for a championship while the window is still open. Championship windows are only open for so long in the NBA and Philadelphia's is being held open by duct tape at the moment. The idea of developing a young player while also competing for a title doesn't go hand in hand--although the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently showing it is entirely possible to do both. Trading down and acquiring a win-now player This seems like the most logical choice for the Sixers. A team like the New Orleans Pelicans would be an ideal trade partner as they possess some players who would be more helpful on teams looking to win a championship rather than a rebuilding one like New Orleans at the moment. Herb Jones immediately comes to mind. He only played 20 games in the 2024-25 season as he had a bit of a setback, but his 2023-24 production was marvelous and fits exactly what the Sixers are looking for in terms of somebody who does the little things and helps a team win in the big moments. Jones shot 41.8% from deep in 2023-24 while finishing fifth in the Defensive Player of the Year voting and being named First Team All-Defense. A swap for the No. 3 and No. 7 picks, Jones heading to Philadelphia, and Kelly Oubre Jr. heading to the Pelicans would be helpful in both the short and long term. Bridging the roster to the future Morey has been on record saying he and the Sixers expect Embiid to return to the floor and look like his dominant self. However, while Embiid has proven resilient and has been one of the best players in the league in recent years--he did win MVP in 2023, after all--it's fair to question that statement by Morey. He has had two surgeries on that left knee in a span of 14 months. He is human, at the end of the day, and one has to wonder just how much he has left in the tank. Therefore, Morey and the front office could begin looking ahead to the future. They could trade down, with a team like the Washington Wizards, for example, and offer up No. 3 for picks No. 6 and 18. This would bring in more young pieces to the roster and begin looking ahead to the next era of Sixers basketball. This would be only if the front office is having second thoughts on Embiid, which it looks like they don't, but it's still something to think about.

(AP Photo/Kareem Elgazzar) CHICAGO (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers activated outfielder Daz Cameron from the paternity list on Tuesday. Cameron takes the roster spot of outfielder Drew Avans, who was optioned to Triple-A Nashville. The 28-year-old Cameron is batting .200 with a homer and three RBIs in 19 games in his first year with the Brewers. Advertisement Garrett Mitchell's rehab assignment was moved from the Arizona Complex League to Nashville. The outfielder is coming back from a left oblique injury. Brewers manager Pat Murphy said there is no target date or number of at-bats for Mitchell. 'We got to kind of track and see where he's at, keep him healthy," Murphy said before the team's series opener against the Chicago Cubs. Mitchell, a first-round pick in the 2020 amateur draft out of UCLA, hasn't appeared in a major league game since April 25. He batted .255 with eight homers, 21 RBIs and 11 steals last season, helping Milwaukee win the NL Central. The Brewers are hoping the 26-year-old Mitchell will be able to rejoin the team before the All-Star break. ___ AP MLB:

Rafeal Devers to debut with Giants at DH and his happy to do so: 'I am here to play wherever they want me to play'

Rafael Devers is officially a San Francisco Giant. And he doesn't care where on the field he plays. The Giants introduced their new star slugger on Tuesday, two days after acquiring Devers in a trade from the Boston Red Sox. The deal took place after a public falling out in Boston after the Red Sox removed him from his longtime position at third base and put him at designated hitter. Advertisement Devers isn't projected to play at third base in San Francisco either. That job belongs to five-time Gold Glove winner Matt Chapman. But Devers isn't worried about it. And he'll be the designated hitter for his Giants debut against the Guardians Tuesday night. Here's what he had to say on the subject at his introductory news conference. "I'm here to give my 100%," Devers said through his interpreter. "I don't put any buts. They're the men in charge. "I am here to play wherever they want me to play." Third base fallout in Boston Had Devers provided the same answer to the same question in Boston, he might still be a member of the Red Sox. Instead, he's taking a new approach with his new team that acquired him to compete in a loaded NL West. Advertisement Before joining the Giants, Devers played his entire eight-plus season MLB career with the Red Sox. He's a four-time All-Star who very well could earn his fifth selection this season. And he was the last remaining player on the roster from Boston's 2018 World Series championship team. But the relationship between Devers and the Red Sox grew strained this winter after Boston acquired third baseman Alex Bregman in free agency. The transaction presented the Red Sox with an obvious baseball decision. Bregman is a Gold Glove third baseman. Devers, by multiple advanced metrics is one of the worst third basemen in baseball. The obvious move was to place Bregman at third base and move Devers — an All-Star slugger — to designated hitter. But Devers made clear in no uncertain terms from spring training that he had zero desire to cede third base to Bregman. 'Third base is my position,' Devers said in February, per 'It's what I've played. I don't know what their plans are. I know we had a conversation. I made it clear, kind of what my desires were, and whatever happens from here, I don't know.' Advertisement Devers then responded "No," when asked if he was open to playing designated hitter. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu) (ASSOCIATED PRESS) Ultimately, Red Sox manager Alex Cora made the proper baseball decision. Bregman took over at third base. Devers, the veteran leader of the clubhouse, was moved to designated hitter against his wishes. Devers may not have been happy with the move. But he continued to perform with a .272/.401/.504 slash line with 15 home runs and 58 RBI through 73 games. Then came Sunday's stunning news. A Red Sox team in the midst of a five-game winning streak in the thick of the AL playoff race dealt Devers to the Giants. Why did Red Sox deal Devers? Despite his dissatisfaction, Devers reportedly did not demand a trade. It added up to a stunning decision by the Red Sox the prompted questions on Monday for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and CEO Sam Kennedy. 'We worked at it, we had a different vision for him going forward than he had," Kennedy told reporters during a news conference. "We couldn't get there, what we felt we needed from him that would be in the best interest of the ball club. Advertisement Kennedy also floated the idea that trading Devers for pitchers Jordan Hicks (4.23 career ERA) and Kyle Harrison (4.48 career ERA) and some minor leaguers would actually make the Red Sox better this season. 'I do think there's a real chance that at the end of the season, we're looking back and we've won more games than we otherwise would have," he said. As for whether or not Devers requested a trade, Breslow said this when asked: 'There were times during the course of conversations with Raffy's camp where they had indicated that perhaps a fresh start would be best for both sides,' Breslow said. 'And we were committed to trying to work through this." With Devers in San Francisco, the Red Sox are off the hook for the remaining eight-plus years of Devers' 10-year, $313.5 million contract.
