Chris Eubank's 'painful' rift with son that only got worse after family tragedy

Daily Mirror25-04-2025

Chris Eubank and son Chris Jr.'s turbulent relationship has played out in the spotlight, growing more strained after the sudden death of son Sebastian Eubank
Amid a major family grudge, Chris Eubank Jr. is set for a bitter showdown on Saturday night against Conor Benn - but it's the feud within his own family that he finds 'painful'.
The 35-year-old was labelled as a "disgrace" for slapping Benn with an egg at an earlier media meeting by his own father Chris Sr, who warned the perilous fight shouldn't go ahead. Chris, 58, made a name for himself as one of Britain's most successful boxers, but his life outside the ring has been far more turbulent, particularly when it comes to his fractured relationship with his son.

Outside of boxing, the two-weight world champ is a father to five children - sons Chris Jr., Sebastian, Joseph, and Nathanael, and daughter Emily. He shares four of them with his ex-wife Karron, whom he married in 1990. The pair split in 2005 after 15 years together. His fifth child, Nathanael, is from a previous relationship.

Since retiring from the ring, Eubank has become a familiar face on television. He appeared on the 2015 series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, where he lasted 17 days and finished in ninth place. In April 2023, he returned to screens in Channel 4 's experimental reality series Scared of the Dark.
But behind the public appearances, Eubank has faced heartbreak. His life was turned upside down in July 2021 when his son Sebastian, also a professional boxer, died suddenly at the age of 29 while living in Dubai. Sebastian had just become a father, and his son Raheem was born only 32 days before his death.
In a statement following the devastating loss, Eubank said: 'Never did I ever imagine I would write these words or experience the feeling I now have at the loss of my son. He was loved and respected by all who knew him and will be forever in the thoughts of friends and family. As a family, we now kindly ask to be given space and privacy to celebrate his life and remember the son, the brother, the husband, the friend.'
He later opened up about his grief during an emotional appearance on Good Morning Britain, saying: "I can't tell you how proud I am of this man. He was my son and I loved him. Every moment we spent together was my favourite, but there were so, so many moments I missed when we weren't together."
Sebastian's older brother, Chris Eubank Jr., 35, also paid tribute to him on X (formerly Twitter), writing: 'My brother Sebastian Eubank was a special man… a righteous man… who always put others before himself. A man of many talents—boxing, MMA, poetry, music, coaching, cooking—the list goes on. But the most important thing to him was helping others less fortunate than himself.'

In recent years, the pain of loss has spilt into his relationship with Chris Jr., who followed in his father's footsteps to become a boxer. Their once-close bond has broken down over time, especially after Eubank Jr. removed his father from his entourage ahead of a fight with Conor Benn.

Speaking to The Times, Eubank Sr. explained how the trauma of Sebastian's death has made him protective of his remaining son. He said, 'We have to be strict. Otherwise lives are put in danger and my son's life cannot be put in danger. I've already lost one. It can't happen again.'
Reflecting on the deep loss of his younger brother, Chris Eubank Jr. spoke candidly about the heartbreak his family continues to face, saying: 'I have a brother who is buried in the desert in Dubai – that is pain. I have his son, three years old, he asks: 'Why can't I see my daddy? Why can't he take me to school?' That is pain.'
Hi pins the tragedy on putting added strain on the family, revealing that his father no longer talks to him. Speaking in October, he said: 'We don't talk, he has shown no interest in my career for a long period of time now. He's shown no interest in me in a long period of time.

'As somebody who's lost a son, I think that's a pretty insane thing [for my dad] to be doing, an insane way to be acting – to kind of not be speaking to your remaining kids. You know what? For a long time, I tried to kind of act like it was cool.
"People would ask me, 'How's your dad?' 'Yeah, we're good.' But I got sick of that s***, man. It's b******. We're not cool, we're not OK, and people need to know.'
The relationship between father and son grew even more strained earlier this year after Eubank Jr. slapped Conor Benn with an egg during a press conference, an incident that prompted Eubank Sr. to publicly call his son a 'disgrace.' Reflecting on the rift, Chris Jr. shared, 'My own father, a man I've idolised for my entire life, doesn't speak to me. We haven't spoken for years. These things is what pain is to me.'
Sadly, this wasn't the first tragedy to shape Eubank's life. Back in 1991, during a fight with Michael Watson, a final-round uppercut led to a severe brain injury that left Watson in a coma and later partially paralysed. Eubank has since called it the only regret of his career.

Horror fans 'seriously creeped out' as unhinged gets Channel 4 premiere

It can be quite a challenging task trying to remember viral dance routines from TikTok. With every passing week, it feels like there's a new song and matching movement to learn. So, if you're struggling to remember why Universal Pictures' M3GAN sent the internet into a frenzy in 2022, then fear not—Channel 4 has you covered. Airing on Saturday night for the enjoyment of horror fans, this twisted film about a seemingly sweet AI doll became an instant success three years ago after it capitalised on viral attention. The meme in question was created after fans tried to recreate the doll's eerie dance routine. Writing on X tonight as the sci-fi flick launched on the small screen at 10pm, @WestBromEL said: 'I'm watching M3GAN on @Channel4, it's seriously creepy.' @Mixer4everx added: 'Watching m3gan on channel 4. I love this movie.' Written by Akela Cooper, the film follows an artificially intelligent doll who develops self-awareness and becomes hostile toward anyone who comes between her and her human companion. Designed by Gemma, who is played by Get Out's Allison Williams, M3GAN goes from simply being able to listen, watch, and learn to being a full-blown killing machine. In the first week it was released, the somewhat comedic horror grossed nearly £24.9million, well above its predictions of £14million. Since, M3GAN has acquired an impressive 93% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, with thousands flooding the site with glowing reviews. And for those keen for more, fear not, as last month, it was revealed that a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is going to be released soon. The plot will follow M3GAN as she is being rebuilt to combat a humanoid military robot created using M3GAN's technology that is attempting an AI takeover. Its cast will star Williams once more, as well as Jenna Davis, Ivanna Sakhno, and Violet McGraw, hitting cinemas on June 27. Additionally, it has also previously been announced that M3GAN will be getting a further spin-off, but with a more sensual twist. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are joining forces for the third M3GAN instalment, a film that 'expands the universe' and is described as an 'erotic thriller'. A synopsis for the upcoming film reads: 'A man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate. 'The film is in the tradition of the 90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.' Set to be released on January 2, 2026, it will be directed by Kate Dolan, famed for the chilling Irish folk tale You Are Not My Mother. This comes after M3GAN star Williams spoke to the Metro about the film and her fear of scary movies, despite garnering status as a Scream Queen herself. More Trending She said: 'The truth is I have a really low tolerance for horror, meaning when I watch a scary movie, it affects my sleep for a while. 'For real. So some of my favourites are my favourites, but they're stuck in time because I've been too scared to watch them again.' View More » M3GAN is available to watch on Channel 4. Got a story? Jon Richardson 'signs up to huge Channel 4 show' despite 'quitting comedy'

TV star Jon Richardson has reportedly signed up to a hit Channel 4 show despite giving up comedy for a very different career after his divorce from Lucy Beaumont Comedian Jon Richardson is said to have signed up to take part in a popular Channel 4 show after "quitting comedy". The TV star issued a surprise announcement earlier this year where he revealed he was changing careers. His unexpected move came just months after his split from wife of nine years Lucy Beaumont. Jon and fellow comedian Lucy starred in their hit series Meet the Richardsons, but were forced to quit following their divorce. ‌ In April, Jon revealed he was quitting comedy despite his huge success to become a teacher. However, he later revealed not all was as it seemed as he explained that he'd only be acting as a teacher for a role in Waterloo Road. In another surprise move Jon has reportedly landed another TV role. ‌ He is now said to have signed up to take part in Celebrity Bake Off for their next Stand Up to Cancer campaign. A source said: 'Bosses are over the moon that they signed up Jon. He is hilarious, so will bring the laughs to the tent, and he's hugely popular with viewers." "It's been a tough year for Jon following his split from Lucy, so this has given him some light relief and it's all for charity, so that's an added bonus," they added to the Sun. Posting on social media earlier this year, Jon made his bombshell revelation. He said: 'I just thought I'd give you a little update. I don't really do social media updates, and I'll tell you why - because I don't think anyone cares. "But I have a little bit of news. I've obviously been taking a little bit of a break from stand-up and it's really made me… want to carry on taking a break from stand-up.' He added: 'I've been thinking a lot about a diary entry that I found from 1997.' An excerpt of his old diary then popped on screen, as the BBC Radio 6 star explained: 'It's this one. I was 14 years old, it says although I would love to be a stand-up comedian, I'll probably end up being a teacher. And I've been thinking a lot about that.' ‌ Jon revealed: 'I've loved being a comedian, it was absolutely the right choice. But I've decided it would've been nice to try the other option, so that's exactly what I'm gonna do.' The comedian shared that he'd already accepted a teaching job, stating: 'I've been doing some training, I've taken a teaching position. I will update you as and when I can. but that's all from me for now, just to let you know where I've been. I'll keep you posted.' ‌ Jon and Lucy tied the knot in April 2015, and share eight-year-old daughter Elsie. At the time of their break-up, a joint statement read: "We have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go our separate ways. "As our only priority is managing this difficult transition for our daughter, we would ask that our privacy is respected at this sensitive time to protect her well-being. We will be making no further comment. Jon Richardson and Lucy Beaumont." In September it was revealed the pair had come to an agreement in their divorce payout as Jon handed Lucy an eye-watering amount. He gave Lucy a whopping £1.625 million. Lucy is also ready to make a return to TV, having signed up to take part in the first celebrity edition of The Traitors.

ITV The Chase awkward moment as celebrity guest makes epic blunder

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A celebrity edition of ITV's The Chase turned hilarious when Paralympic star Hollie Arnold made a side-splitting error in the cash builder round. Joined by her former I'm A Me Out of Here! campmates, including AJ Pritchard, Giovanna Fletcher, and Russell Watson, they faced off with Paul Sinha - The Sinnerman - in hopes of winning funds for charity. The moment that had everyone chuckling occurred when Hollie was asked by host Bradley Walsh: "In 2019, which boxer beat Andy Ruiz Jr to reclaim his heavyweight world titles?" She confidently answered: "AJ Pritchard." As the studio erupted into laughter during the repeated episode shown again on Saturday, Hollie gestured towards the professional dancer nearby, promptly correcting herself amid laughter: "I meant to say AJ!" referring clearly to Anthony Joshua, the true heavyweight boxing champion, not the Strictly Come Dancing alum. (Image: ITV) AJ responded to the mix-up with good nature, quipping, "I'll take it anyway," while Bradley couldn't resist teasing, "You're getting your AJ Pritchards mixed up with your Anthony Joshuas," reports the Express. Even The Sinnerman joined in on the fun, joking: "Not only are you a world champion javelin thrower, you've created a world champion boxer in seat one." Hollie managed to bank £3,000 despite the gaffe, but chose to go with a safer £1,000 lower offer later on, to ensure she rejoined her teammates. The team on The Chase faced a heart-stopping moment as they reached the Final Chase with a whopping £72,000 at stake, only to be caught by the Chaser with a mere eight seconds left on the clock. (Image: ITV) Despite not answering any questions in the final round, Hollie and her teammates each took home £1,000 for their chosen charities. However, fans were less than thrilled to realise that the episode, which first aired less than two months prior, was a repeat – a move that has drawn criticism towards ITV. The channel previously faced backlash for re-airing a Soccer Aid celebrity special featuring England football icon David James alongside Lianne Sanderson, Dion Dublin, and Shaun Williamson, with Chaser Darragh Ennis as their opponent. Disgruntled viewers took to social media to express their annoyance, with one commenting on X: "Another repeat even when it's for charity? Lazy @ITV very lazy!" Echoing the sentiment, others chimed in with remarks such as "A no from me celeb repeat WTF," and queries like "How many times are they going to play this episode?" (Image: ITV) Frustration mounted as another fan questioned: "Are we in repeat season for #thechase now? No new episodes until September? If so, why not give it a rest and show something else?" Further criticism came from a viewer who pointed out: "Over 1100 episodes recorded and @ITV decide to repeat a repeat that was on 3 weeks ago ! ! ! Brilliant". The Chase is on ITV1 weekdays at 5pm and ITVX
