Hajj Flight Faces Wheel Glitch At Lucknow Airport; Sparks, Smoke Erupt During Landing

A major mishap was narrowly averted at Lucknow Airport on Sunday morning when a Saudia Airlines flight carrying Hajj pilgrims developed a technical glitch during landing, with sparks and smoke erupting from the aircraft's wheel as it touched down on the runway, prompting an immediate emergency response.
According to sources, sparks and smoke were seen coming from the aircraft's wheel as it touched down around 6:30 am. The aircraft, flight SV 3112, had departed from Jeddah at 10:45 pm the previous night with 250 Hajj pilgrims and crew members onboard.

The incident occurred while the plane was taxiing on the runway. The pilot promptly brought the aircraft to a halt, and the airport's fire and rescue team responded immediately, bringing the situation under control within 20 minutes.
Preliminary investigation points to a hydraulic system leak as the cause of the malfunction. Aviation experts noted that the glitch, though minor during landing, could have resulted in a serious accident had it occurred during takeoff.
The incident comes just days after the tragic crash of Air India flight AI 171 from London to Ahmedabad, which went down shortly after takeoff, killing all 241 people on board and over 10 on the ground. The back-to-back aviation incidents have heightened concerns over flight safety and aircraft maintenance protocols.

New Delhi: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh's name is etched in history as the sole survivor of the Air India flight AI-171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner that crashed into the hostel building of the BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad on June 12. A new video, doing the rounds on the internet, shows Mr Ramesh walking out of the crash site with thick clouds of smoke behind him. In the video, Mr Ramesh is seen in a white t-shirt walking out of the crash site with a mobile phone in his left hand. The 40-year-old British-Indian still finds it unbelievable and says he is not clear how he survived. "I don't know how I came out of it alive," he told Doordarshan. "For a while, I thought I was about to die. But when I opened my eyes, I saw I was alive. And I opened my seat belt and got out of there. The airhostess and aunty uncle all died before my eyes," he said. The emergency door apparently came off when the plane struck the hostel. Asked if he landed on the hostel, he said, "No, I was closer to the ground, the ground floor, where there was space. So I came out from there. The building wall was on the opposite side and I do not think anyone was able to come out that way". Describing the moment the plane crash, Mr Ramesh said, "A minute after the take-off, it felt like the plane had got stuck. Then green and white lights came on. They (the pilots) tried to raise the plane but it went full speed and crashed into the building". The plane flying to London from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Airport crashed within 32 seconds of take-off and 241 people on board, including 10 cabin crew members and two pilots, were charred to death. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani is one of the victims of the horrific crash. DNA testing is underway to identify the victims and handover their bodies to respective families.

Delhi bound Air India Dreamliner diverted to Hong Kong due to suspected technical issue
New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): An Air India flight, which was supposed to land in Delhi, was diverted back to Hong Kong after the pilot suspected a technical issue mid-air, sources said on Monday. The AI 315 flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had departed from Hong Kong to Delhi. According to the flight tracking site, Flight Radar 24, the air India flight was supposed to reach Delhi by 12.20 PM. Sources from Air India said that the passengers have been deboarded safely and the plane is undergoing a safety check. 'The pilot suspected some technical issue in the flight and, as a precautionary measure, the flight returned to its origin. Passengers have been disembarked and the flight is going through the check,' the source said. This incident comes up just days after the tragic Air India AI 171, also a Dreamliner 787-8, on June 12 in Ahmedabad, killing 241 people. Following the crash, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has also ordered enhanced safety checks on Air India's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 fleet. The airline has stated that inspections on nine out of its 33 Dreamliner aircraft had been completed, with the remaining 24 on track to be inspected within the timeline provided by the regulator. According to sources, the meeting will bring together top officials, including the Civil Aviation Secretary, a representative from the Gujarat government, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officials, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, and other key agencies to review the incident and assess security protocols across the aviation sector.
