The fitness and fashion diva, Shilpa Shetty, recently turned 50, and the actress is currently in Croatia to celebrate her birthday. Pride@Godrej 2025: Beyond Symbolism, Empowering LGBTQIA+ Voices and Businesses
PRNewswire Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 12: This year, Pride@Godrej builds on a decade-long project of cultural inclusion within the Godrej Industries Group, to create a meaningful platform for authentic queer storytelling, entrepreneurial spirit and artistic expression. The Group recently hosted a vibrant Pride March at its headquarters, Godrej One, led by Manish Shah, Managing Director of Godrej Capital, and joined by senior leaders across the organization. This march was a powerful demonstration of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community, including Godrej's queer employees in India and globally, alongside their allies. A key highlight of Pride@Godrej 2025 was the launch of Queer Directions--a pioneering publishing imprint in collaboration with Westland Books, dedicated to amplifying queer voices and narratives. The event began with the Pitch Bazaar, where over a dozen unpublished queer writers connected with publishers and media professionals. In parallel, a Queer Bazaar showcased products from queer-owned small businesses, fostering visibility and economic opportunities. The celebration culminated in a delightful performance of Jhumkewali, a play supported by Godrej Properties Limited, which explores themes of lesbian first love and self-discovery set in the 1970s. Performed in multiple Indian languages, the play embodied the event's inclusive ethos, celebrating the intersection of queerness with India's linguistic and cultural diversity. This day-long celebration seamlessly blended culture, conversation, and community through thoughtfully curated experiences. "What excites me most about this celebration is how we moved beyond just rainbow flags to create real opportunities," said Parmesh Shahani, Head of the Godrej DEI Lab and author of Queeristan. "When queer writers feel confident enough to pitch their stories to industry professionals, when small queer businesses get a platform to showcase their work, that's when you know inclusion is working. We are not just talking about diversity; we are actively creating pathways for queer voices to thrive." "The launch of Queer Directions represents our belief that great stories deserve great platforms," said Karthika V.K., Publisher at Westland Books. "This isn't just about publishing--it's about ensuring that authentic queer narratives find their rightful place in Indian literature and reach readers who need to see themselves reflected in books." Throughout June, the Group companies will engage in a series of impactful Pride-focused initiatives, moving beyond symbolic gestures to drive meaningful change. Godrej Properties is celebrating Pride Month across its zones with Pride marches, storytelling sessions, inclusive workshops, and creative activities such as art contests and wall painting. Godrej Capital is fostering inclusion through events at Pride@Godrej One, including Nukkad Nataks, allyship panels, LGBTQIA+ hiring drives, and wellness programs. Godrej Consumer Products is leading QueeRising 2025, a global campaign celebrating queer identity through conversations, connections, and inspiring change. Godrej Chemicals is championing Pride Month with awareness campaigns and LGBT+ sensitization workshops, while Godrej Agrovet Limited is organizing employee workshops focused on workplace allyship. This year too, a Pride flag and other queer-affirming signage have sparked meaningful conversations among employees and visitors alike, reflecting the organization's evolving commitment to visibility, dialogue, and genuine inclusion. TikTok star Khaby Lame plays soccer in Brazil after US detention
SAO PAULO — Khaby Lame, the world's most-followed TikTok personality who left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents, went to Brazil where he's been spending some time with friends, local authorities said Thursday. Lame is staying with AC Milan player Emerson Royal, and has been enjoying time with local fans, Paulo Eduardo Dias Junior, a city councilman from Americana, about 78 miles northwest of Sao Paulo, told The Associated Press. On Wednesday night, they played a friendly soccer match with locals. Lame left the United States after being detained on June 6 by immigration agents at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, according to a statement from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Junior organized Wednesday's match on behalf of the nonprofit he leads, Instituto Jr Dias. He said that Lame and Royal's participation helped collect 150 food baskets for vulnerable families. 'Emerson Royal is a role model for the children in our community, and so is Khaby, who is globally known through social media. He's a sensation among kids today,' Junior said. 'He had a lot of fun with the kids and played a lot.' The councilman said that the team that Lame and Royal were on won 3-1. Everything went smoothly, he added, except for the post-match celebration. As is tradition in Brazil, players gathered for a barbecue. But Lame preferred a parmegiana, so they took him to a local restaurant, Junior said. This is not Lame's first time in Brazil. Last year, he traveled to the country to attend Royal's wedding. Lame arrived in the U.S. on April 30 and 'overstayed the terms of his visa,' an ICE spokesperson told the , which sent a message seeking comment Tuesday to the email address listed on Lame's Instagram account. He hasn't publicly commented on his detention. His detention and voluntary departure from the United States comes amid U.S. President Donald Trump's escalating crackdown on immigration, including raids in Los Angeles that sparked days of protests against ICE, as the president tests the bounds of his executive authority. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old Lame rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks.' He has more than 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and also has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multiyear partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. Last month, he attended the Met Gala in New York City, days after arriving in the U.S. Follow 's coverage of Latin America and the Caribbean at /hub/latin-america

‘Kubera' promises emotion and grandeur
The movie 'Kubera' has turned out to be very amazing. The emotion in 'Kubera' will connect with everyone. It will give a very different experience to the audience, say producers Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao. Superstar Dhanush, King Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna star in the highly anticipated pan-India movie 'Kubera', directed by Sekhar Kammula. With an amazing cast, 'Kubera' is set to be a game-changer in Indian cinema. The promotional content of 'Kubera' that has already been released has received a tremendous response. Songs 'Poira Mama', 'Trans of Kubera', and 'PP Dum Dum' are trending on the music charts with a chartbuster response. Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao are producing this film with a high budget and high production values on SVCLLP, in association with Sekhar Kammula's Amigos Creations Private Limited. 'Kubera' is set to release grandly worldwide on June 20 in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. On this occasion, producers Sunil Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao shared the highlights of the film at a press conference. How did the 'Kubera' project materialise? Sekhar Kammula told us this idea after 'Love Story'. He thought that Dhanush would be perfect for this story. He narrated it to Dhanush, who listened for 20 minutes and immediately signed on. That's how the project began. Dhanush garu is a pan-India star. He has also made films in Hindi. Nagarjuna garu has been in Hindi films forever. Everyone knows Rashmika garu—she's a popular actress across India. This film was made with such a big star cast according to the story. Dhanush garu, Nagarjuna garu, Rashmika garu—everyone supported it wonderfully. 'Kubera' is a straight Telugu and Tamil film. We are dubbing it into Hindi and releasing it. The first copy is already ready. The movie has turned out amazing. This is the first time Sekhar Kammula is making a film with such a big star cast. How different is this going to be? Sekhar Kammula is our favourite director. Every time I watch his movie 'Leader', it still feels very fresh. This time, he has made a film with a bigger star cast. It will definitely give the audience a very new experience. This is a very different movie. Sekhar Kammula is a filmmaker who sees stars as characters and makes films. You'll see real characters in this film too. What is the 'Kubera' conflict? The richest man in the world vs. the poorest man on the streets. That is the central conflict. What was the element that struck you in the story of 'Kubera'? Sekhar makes films that touch the audience emotionally and leave them with a good feeling. This film is no exception. The emotions in it will connect with the audience. What challenges did you face while shooting? Shooting in real locations is always a challenge. We shot in actual slums, garbage dumps, and dumping yards. Shooting in Bombay, especially on real streets, was another big challenge. We never worried about the budget. We did not compromise at all on what the content required. We are releasing the film on a grand scale. It will be released in about 1,600 screens. I'm confident it will have a wonderful opening. How was Nagarjuna brought into the project? We always wanted to work with Nagarjuna garu. Sekhar garu couldn't imagine anyone else in this role except him. Nagarjuna sir liked the story and acted wonderfully. His performance was so good, it's hard to imagine anyone else in that role. What about Devi Sri Prasad's music? Devi Sri Prasad is an excellent music director. He composed many different songs for this film. The background score is amazing as well. Dhanush sang two songs. That was a collective decision by the director and Devi Sri. Are you releasing it in Tamil as well? No, we've handed over the Tamil distribution to a distributor named Rahul. Sunil garu, do you plan to make your daughter Janhvi a producer? Absolutely. She is very interested in film production and is very active. My brother's son is also interested in film production. What about your next projects? We are going to do another film with Sekhar Kammula. However, the hero has not been finalised yet.
