Song Young-Kyu Found Dead In Vehicle Days After Driving Under Influence Controversy
Veteran South Korean actor Song Young-Kyu has been found dead just days after he was embroiled in a driving under the influence (DUI) controversy that had begun affecting his career. He was 55 years old.
According to media reports, Song was discovered unconscious inside a parked vehicle at a townhouse complex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, around 8:00 AM on Sunday. The Yongin Eastern Police Station has launched an investigation into the circumstances of his death. Authorities were reportedly alerted by an acquaintance who found him in the vehicle.
A source quoted by Koreaboo said, 'He was distressed by the malicious articles and comments, and the circumstances were extremely unfavorable at that time."
Just over a week before his death, Song had been booked without detention for driving under the influence. The incident occurred on June 19 in Yongin, after Song had reportedly consumed alcohol with acquaintances and attempted to drive home. His blood alcohol content was said to be over 0.08 per cent, leading to the revocation of his driver's license. The incident came to light after a local resident reported it to the police. Song chose not to issue a public statement about the matter.
The backlash was swift. Song was removed from the stage play Shakespeare In Love following the incident. In South Korea, where public figures are held to high standards, such infractions often have serious professional consequences.
At the time of the scandal, Song was appearing as Pastor Yoon Se Hoon in ENA's Monday–Tuesday drama Eye Shopping, and had also filmed for The Defects. In response to the controversy, the production team behind The Defects stated that they would minimise his screen time in the final edit. 'Since it is a pre-produced drama, filming has been completed, and it seems that editing will be kept to a minimum so as not to affect the flow of the plot or the viewer's perception of the plot," they told OSEN on July 25.
Song began his acting career in 1994 with the children's musical Wizard Mureul. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of death.

'The first thing Ibrahim did was he went for an army boot camp. He spent about a week in the jungle, where there was no cell phone or network. If he had to contact someone, he had to cycle to the nearby post office and post a letter. Then I started talking to him about his life and journey," he said. Closer to filming, Kayoze brought Ibrahim to Atul Mongia, who is known for helping actors explore their 'inner world' to bring out authentic performances. 'AIbrahim did a great job doing that. I also did a few test shoots with him because I wanted to see how it'd affect him to shoot against the backdrop with lights. Our first day of shoot with him was in Manali, the dining table scene with Prithvi sir and Kajol ma'am", he added. News18 Showsha gave the film two stars. There are scenes where he gets it right – especially in the action bits and shots when he leans into that quiet, brooding vibe that don't ask for much. He shows a bit of vulnerability too, and that helps. But when the role asks for real emotional depth, it feels one-note. Mihir Ahuja does well in a short but impactful role." Parents allege 4-year-old daughter sexually assaulted in Thane school; probe on
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thane, Aug 5 (PTI) Parents of a four-year-old girl studying in a reputed school in Maharashtra's Thane city have alleged that an unidentified person sexually assaulted her, prompting police to launch an investigation, officials said. In their complaint to police, the parents have alleged a person in blue clothes sexually assaulted their daughter in the school premises on July 30 between 11.15 am and 3 pm, the officials said on Monday. Taking serious note of the matter, the police examined the CCTV footage of the school as part of their probe. 'We are investigating the matter under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. Although the initial CCTV investigation did not reveal any suspicious movement, we are expanding the probe so that no link is left unturned," a senior police official said. The school administration was cooperating with the police in the case, he informed. Statements of the school staff were being recorded and information was also being sought from other witnesses in the area, according to police. In August last year, two minor girls were sexually assaulted inside the toilet of a school at Badlapur in Thane district by a male attendant, sparking widespread protests and outrage. The accused, Akshay Shinde, was later killed in an alleged retaliatory police shootout while being escorted in a police vehicle.
