Rahul Mamkootathil resigns as Kerala Youth Congress chief: Model Rini Ann George, writer Honey Bhaskaran accuse Palakkad MLA of sending obscene messages; party launches internal probe

Time of India11 hours ago
NEW DELHI:
Congress
MLA from Palakkad, Rahul Mamkootathil, has resigned from the post of state president of the Youth Congress following allegations of obscene conduct made by writer Honey Bhaskaran and model-actress Rini Ann George, news agency ANI reported.
The MLA is facing an internal party inquiry after George accused an unnamed 'young leader' of misbehaviour and sending her obscene messages, later revealing that she had already informed party leaders about his conduct.
George alleged that despite her complaint, the leader continued to receive prominence within the party.
In a media interaction, George claimed that Mamkootathil sent her repeated objectionable messages and even invited her to a hotel.
She added that when she threatened to complain, the leader dared her to go ahead.
'Which woman will these politicians, who could not protect women in their own families, protect?' news agency PTI quoted George as saying.
George said she finally spoke out after seeing similar allegations surface on social media.
Honey Bhaskaran also alleged that Mamkootathil had harassed her through persistent social media messages.

When she stopped responding, she claimed, he spread false claims among party workers that she had initiated the interaction.
The controversy triggered protests from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the CPI(M)-affiliated DYFI, both of which demanded Mamkootathil's resignation as MLA. On Wednesday, BJP workers staged a protest march to his office in Palakkad.
Responding to the allegations, senior Congress leader and leader of opposition VD Satheesan said no leader would be spared if found guilty.
He confirmed that a party-level inquiry had been initiated.
'We cannot punish someone based only on a message. But now a serious complaint has been raised. The party will examine it fairly,' he said.
Satheesan emphasised that the party would not protect anyone based on their political stature.
'The Youth Congress leader must also be heard before action is taken,' he added. He also condemned the cyberbullying directed at the complainant, alleging CPI(M) groups were behind the trolling.
Mamkootathil has not yet issued any public response to the allegations.

Mansion of ‘Machhli family' near Hathaikheda dam razed amid heavy security

Bhopal: In a demolition operation that lasted nearly six hours, joint teams of district administration, police and municipal corporation on Thursday demolished the mansion of the "Machhli family" in Anantapura, Kokta Hathaikheda. The alleged illegal property, built over 15,000 square feet of govt land, was razed with the help of six earth mover machines amid heavy police deployment. Two members of the Machhli family including Shahwar Ahmed and Yasin Ahmed were arrested by the crime branch of Bhopal police for allegedly running an MD drugs supply racket in the city. They were also booked on charges of rape, molestation, extortion and assault. According to official sources, the mansion was built in 1990 and the three-storey mansion had more than 30 rooms, large halls, marble flooring on the terrace, a park, garage, playroom for children and luxury amenities spread over an acre of land. The market value of the razed property has been estimated at Rs 20 to 25 crore. The demolition had originally been scheduled for July 31 but was stalled following the Supreme Court guidelines, which required prior notice to be served to the owner of a house before the demolition of residential properties. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? However, after the deployment of additional women police personnel to control the protestors, the protest subsided and the illegal mansion was brought down by 5 pm. According to district administration officials, the Machhli family had illegally occupied nearly 70 acres of govt land near Anantpura and constructed three farmhouses, a warehouse, a factory, a madarsa and shops. In a previous demolition drive carried out on July 30, several of these structures were demolished. With Thursday's action, all seven illegal constructions have now been razed, freeing govt land valued at nearly Rs 100 crore. On July 31, the family's lawyer had managed to halt the demolition, citing Supreme Court guidelines requiring 15 days notice before demolishing residential structures. This time, however, despite fresh objections from the defence lawyer, officials went ahead with the operation, asserting that due notices had already been served. "The accused had encroached upon govt land and constructed large illegal buildings. Notices were duly served earlier. Thursday's action has ensured the recovery of govt property worth crores and restored it to official possession," said an officer of the district administration present at the site. Bhopal set for metro-city makeover, CM lays foundation for Rs 599 cr projects

Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday said Bhopal is set to be developed into a full-fledged metropolitan city, with major infrastructure projects, new civic amenities and tourism initiatives taking shape. Speaking at a programme organised by Bhopal Municipal Corporation here, he laid the foundation stone for water supply works worth Rs 582.32 crore and 50 ward-level projects worth Rs 16.76 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 Mission. "Neighboring districts will also benefit from Bhopal's growth. To enhance regional connectivity, the western bypass is being developed, while metro train services in Bhopal are scheduled to commence by Oct 2025," he said. Tourism will also receive a boost, as Shikara rides -- similar to those on Dal Lake in Kashmir -- will be introduced on the city's famous 'Bada Tal' with support from the State Tourism Development Corporation. Alongside, grand gateways are being constructed on major city roads and a large convention center is also planned. At the BMC programme, appointment and compassionate appointment letters were distributed and sanitation workers were honored for Bhopal's outstanding performance in the 'Swachh Survekshan' 2024. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo Yadav further said on the occasion that it was under the visionary leadership and commitment of PM Narendra Modi to improve the lives of every Indian that Bhopal city will now ensure a clean drinking water supply to 30,000 households under AMRUT 2.0. The rapid expansion of urban development and civic amenities across India is a result of the Prime Minister's determination, making life easier for common citizens. Presently, development works are underway in 295 towns across Madhya Pradesh. He recalled that India's urban systems have been well-organised and prosperous since ancient times, with Harappa and Mohenjodaro serving as historical examples. CM Yadav further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's economy has risen to the fourth position globally. Indian democracy has earned global respect and in this democracy, local bodies hold a critical role. Whenever a new scheme is launched by the centre or the state, its implementation primarily rests with the local bodies. Historically, citizens of Bhopal have actively contributed to democratic traditions—the Bhopal merger movement after Independence being a prime example. The active role of democratic institutions and the sense of security provided by the Indian armed forces have accelerated development in all sectors including the economy. Sports and youth welfare minister Vishwas Sarang said the growth of cities is vital for the overall development of any state. Continuous urban expansion creates new employment opportunities. Yadav has rightly emphasised urban development, while PM Modi has introduced milestone welfare schemes for cities, including the Smart City Mission and Swachh Survekshan. This year, Bhopal secured second place in cleanliness rankings. Under AMRUT 2.0, water storage tanks will be constructed to address drinking water challenges and ensure a clean and reliable supply. Sarang urged citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to making Bhopal No. 1 in the next cleanliness survey. Mayor of Bhopal Malti Rai said that under AMRUT 2.0, four new filter plants and four intake wells will be constructed to meet future drinking water needs, along with a 700-km-long pipeline network supplied through 36 overhead tanks. She informed that compassionate appointment letters are being issued to the families of 31 BMC employees who passed away untimely, while appointment letters were also distributed to 24 candidates selected through direct recruitment. She added that it is due to the efforts of sanitation workers that Bhopal achieved a high ranking in cleanliness, and honoring them is everyone's responsibility. MP all set to become 'petroleum hub' The state's geological structure has shown immense potential for hydrocarbon resources such as petroleum, natural gas, and coal bed methane (CBM), CM Mohan Yadav said on Thursday. According to experts, the Gondwana basin in the eastern part of the state and the sedimentary rocks in the Narmada and Tapti valleys in the western and southern parts are highly favorable for hydrocarbons. Districts such as Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, and Chhindwara have been specifically identified as having significant potential for hydrocarbons and CBM gas, Yadav said.
