Bhopal set for metro-city makeover, CM lays foundation for Rs 599 cr projects

Time of India7 hours ago
Bhopal: CM Mohan Yadav on Thursday said Bhopal is set to be developed into a full-fledged metropolitan city, with major infrastructure projects, new civic amenities and tourism initiatives taking shape.
Speaking at a programme organised by Bhopal Municipal Corporation here, he laid the foundation stone for water supply works worth Rs 582.32 crore and 50 ward-level projects worth Rs 16.76 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 Mission.
"Neighboring districts will also benefit from Bhopal's growth. To enhance regional connectivity, the western bypass is being developed, while metro train services in Bhopal are scheduled to commence by Oct 2025," he said.
Tourism will also receive a boost, as Shikara rides -- similar to those on Dal Lake in Kashmir -- will be introduced on the city's famous 'Bada Tal' with support from the State Tourism Development Corporation.
Alongside, grand gateways are being constructed on major city roads and a large convention center is also planned.
At the BMC programme, appointment and compassionate appointment letters were distributed and sanitation workers were honored for Bhopal's outstanding performance in the 'Swachh Survekshan' 2024.

Yadav further said on the occasion that it was under the visionary leadership and commitment of PM Narendra Modi to improve the lives of every Indian that Bhopal city will now ensure a clean drinking water supply to 30,000 households under AMRUT 2.0.
The rapid expansion of urban development and civic amenities across India is a result of the Prime Minister's determination, making life easier for common citizens. Presently, development works are underway in 295 towns across Madhya Pradesh.
He recalled that India's urban systems have been well-organised and prosperous since ancient times, with Harappa and Mohenjodaro serving as historical examples. CM Yadav further stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's economy has risen to the fourth position globally. Indian democracy has earned global respect and in this democracy, local bodies hold a critical role. Whenever a new scheme is launched by the centre or the state, its implementation primarily rests with the local bodies.
Historically, citizens of Bhopal have actively contributed to democratic traditions—the Bhopal merger movement after Independence being a prime example. The active role of democratic institutions and the sense of security provided by the Indian armed forces have accelerated development in all sectors including the economy.
Sports and youth welfare minister Vishwas Sarang said the growth of cities is vital for the overall development of any state.
Continuous urban expansion creates new employment opportunities.
Yadav has rightly emphasised urban development, while PM Modi has introduced milestone welfare schemes for cities, including the Smart City Mission and Swachh Survekshan. This year, Bhopal secured second place in cleanliness rankings.
Under AMRUT 2.0, water storage tanks will be constructed to address drinking water challenges and ensure a clean and reliable supply.
Sarang urged citizens to contribute wholeheartedly to making Bhopal No. 1 in the next cleanliness survey.
Mayor of Bhopal Malti Rai said that under AMRUT 2.0, four new filter plants and four intake wells will be constructed to meet future drinking water needs, along with a 700-km-long pipeline network supplied through 36 overhead tanks. She informed that compassionate
appointment letters are being issued to the families of 31 BMC employees who passed away untimely, while appointment letters were also distributed to 24 candidates selected through direct recruitment.
She added that it is due to the efforts of sanitation workers that Bhopal achieved a high ranking in cleanliness, and honoring them is everyone's responsibility.
MP all set to become 'petroleum hub'
The state's geological structure has shown immense potential for hydrocarbon resources such as petroleum, natural gas, and coal bed methane (CBM), CM Mohan Yadav said on Thursday.
According to experts, the Gondwana basin in the eastern part of the state and the sedimentary rocks in the Narmada and Tapti valleys in the western and southern parts are highly favorable for hydrocarbons.
Districts such as Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, Damoh, Panna, Chhatarpur, Sagar, Narsinghpur, Raisen, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, and Chhindwara have been specifically identified as having significant potential for hydrocarbons and CBM gas, Yadav said.

Cong readying to ‘plunder' funds under guise of Musi rejuvenation, warns KTR

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday alleged that the Congress government was preparing to 'plunder' public funds under the guise of the Musi River beautification project. The BRS leader stated that while the former BRS government, led by K Chandrashekar Rao, laid all the groundwork and prepared a master plan, the current Congress government has inflated the project's estimates to facilitate a massive scam. Addressing the media, KTR highlighted that it was the KCR government that brought Godavari river water to Kondapochamma Sagar, near Hyderabad, through the Kaleshwaram Project. He also reminded the people that in 2022, the KCR government approved a proposal with a budget of Rs 1,100 crore to bring Godavari water from Kondapochamma Sagar to Gandipet lake. KTR further explained that the BRS government undertook and completed the construction of 36 Sewerage Treatment Plants (STPs) to treat the 2,000 MLD (million litres per day) of sewage that flows into the Musi river. He said that the previous government also completed a 5-kilometer beautification stretch in the Nagole area and established a Shilparamam on the banks of the Musi River at Uppal Bhagayat. He said, while the KCR government prepared a master plan and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) with an estimated cost of Rs 16,000 crore, the Congress government has now inflated the estimates to an astounding Rs 1,50,000 crore, KTR alleged. He warned that the BRS would expose and prevent this 'plunder of public money'. He accused the Congress government of rushing the project to secure its position by sending 'money bags to Delhi', all under the 'beautiful cover' of urban development. KTR stated that the people of Telangana are watching all of this unfold.
