2 arrested after stolen vehicle crashes into police cruiser in Waterbury

WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) — Waterbury police say two suspects were arrested last week after they allegedly struck a police cruiser and a brick wall while attempting to evade officers in a stolen vehicle.
The incident occurred around 3:32 p.m. on Feb. 5. Police said officers from the Waterbury Police Department's Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF), Vice and Intelligence Unit, and the Connecticut Violent Crime Task Force were patrolling along Willow Street and Hillside Avenue when they noticed a 2007 Honda Accord reported stolen from Bridgeport earlier that morning.

When officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee, ultimately colliding with a police cruiser and a brick wall. He was apprehended at the scene, along with a passenger in the vehicle.
After the incident, the driver- Daniel Baker, 42, of Naugatuck- was transported to a hospital for treatment of a laceration to his face.
Baker was later charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree criminal trover, first-degree criminal mischief, illegal possession of a controlled substance, and more.

He also had an active arrest warrant out of Fairfield, police said.
Janete Olivencia, 38, of Waterbury- the passenger- was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, Olivencia was held on a $1,000 bond and is set to appear in court on March 11.

Italo Lalvay Guaillasaca, 22, allegedly fled the scene after crashing into a car parked on Middleton Street in Riverside Township, a suburb of Philadelphia, on the morning of May 31.
