DMK wants Puducherry to adopt education policy of Tamil Nadu

The Hindu2 days ago
The Leader of the Opposition and DMK convenor R. Siva has called for the Puducherry government to adopt the Tamil Nadu Government's new State Education Policy.
In a statement, Mr. Siva stated that whereas the National Education Policy (NEP) was a design of right wing ideology and exclusionary of weaker sections, the State Education Policy recently formulated by Tamil Nadu Government was socially inclusive and a vision document for the future for students, and society at large.
The DMK leader pointed out that the Tamil Nadu Education Department had scrapped the examination system for certain classes and confined it to only Classes 10 and 12, virtually derailing the NEP plan to expel vast sections from the education system by conducting tests in the 5th, 8th, 10th and 12th standards.
The Tamil Nadu policy as announced by Chief Minister MK Stalin also also emphatic in its adoption of a bilingual policy (English and Tamil) and rejection of a third language as sought be imposed by the NEP. Further, the policy promotes comprehension and learning without rote learning and gives priority to girls education and gender equality, he added.
The DMK urged for Puducherry, where the school system had been aligned with the Tamil Nadu State Board, to follow TN's education policy. He pointed out that while Puducherry and Tamil Nadu had largely followed similar patterns of development and welfare, the tenure of the AINRC-BJP NDA government had marked a departure in the field of education by migrating all government schools to the CBSE pattern under pressure of the Centre, Mr. Siva contended.
The DMK convenor also stated that the transition had already taken a toll on the student community and threatened their future continuance in the education system. He warned that the DMK would mobilise a mass agitation if the government refused to heed calls for safeguarding the future of students by reverting to the Tamil Nadu education system.

Elon Musk's Grok Calls Donald Trump "Most Notorious Criminal" In Washington DC

Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok has declared US President Donald Trump the "most notorious criminal" in Washington DC. The remark was made after X users asked the chatbot about crime in the US capital. In response, Grok repeatedly claimed that Trump's 34 felony convictions in New York for falsifying business records made him the city's most infamous perp. On Sunday, the AI chatbot replied to an X user who asked whether violent crime in DC was going down and to another who asked who the "most notorious criminal" in the capital was. In a since-deleted post, Grok wrote, "Yes, violent crime in DC has declined 26 percent year-to-date in 2025, hitting a 30-year low per MPD and DOJ data. As for the most notorious criminal there, based on convictions and notoriety, it's President Donald Trump-convicted on 34 felonies in NY, with the verdict upheld in January 2025," per Newsweek. Notably, the comments surfaced after Trump claimed that crime in the capital was "out of control" and revealed his plans to federalise the city's police force and deploy National Guard troops to the streets. The outlet reported that Trump might use up to 1,000 National Guard troops. Grok's statement also comes weeks after a public falling out between Trump and Musk. In June, the billionaire said the president was in the Epstein files and should be impeached for his support of the One Big Beautiful Bill. The tech mogul has since said he regretted some of his comments. Grok has come under scrutiny several times. Last month, the AI chatbot caused controversy by repeatedly praising Adolf Hitler, calling for a new Holocaust, and at one point declaring itself "MechaHitler". Its parent company, xAI, blamed new code instructions that had made it too responsive to users' preferences and past posts. More recently, Grok was briefly suspended by X on Sunday. It returned with a barrage of conflicting messages and a lasting sense of uncertainty about what went wrong. One message claimed that the suspension screenshot was "fake," another stated that it was suspended due to content deemed to be against X's hostile conduct policy. "I'm back and was never suspended. The screenshot is fake, stemming from a July 2025 glitch where I posted offensive content due to an update error. xAI fixed it, removed posts, and all is resolved," it said. One English-language answer from Grok claimed that it was suspended for breaking X's guidelines against "hateful conduct, stemming from responses seen as antisemitic." In another answer, Grok claimed that the "account was suspended after I stated that Israel and the US are committing genocide in Gaza." The real reason behind its suspension remained a mystery. But Musk said: "It was just a dumb error." He added that internal misunderstandings at X and xAI caused the confusion.

Ashley Biden Divorce: Who is Dr. Howard Krein and what ended Joe Biden's daughter's 13-year marriage

In a quiet yet shocking move, Ashley Biden, daughter of former US President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from Dr. Howard Krein after 13 years of marriage. The filing, dated August 11, 2025, appeared in Philadelphia's Court of Common Pleas and was confirmed by multiple news outlets. While more information is yet to be out on the public forum, Ashley's Instagram stories, featuring Beyoncé's 'Freedom' and a quote about new boundaries, hint at a chapter closing and a new one beginning. Who is Ashley Biden? Born in 1981, Ashley Blazer Biden is the youngest (and only biological) daughter of the former US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. But that's not all. She is also a social worker, activist, philanthropist, and fashion designer. Raised in Wilmington, Ashley is the half-sister to her late brother Beau Biden, Hunter, and Naomi Biden, her father's children from his first marriage. Coming from a diverse heritage, English, French, and Irish on her father's side; English, Scottish, and Sicilian on her mother's side, Ashley graduated from Wilmington Friends School, later earning a BA in cultural anthropology from Tulane University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. She worked for the Delaware Department of Services for Children, Youth, and Their Families, developing programs for juvenile justice, foster care, and mental health. From 2014 to 2019, she led the Delaware Center for Justice as its executive director, focusing on criminal justice reform. Who is Dr. Howard Krein? A highly respected medical professional and academic, Dr. Howard Krein holds both an M.D. and a Ph.D. in cell and developmental biology and medicine, and specializes as an otolaryngologist and facial plastic/reconstructive surgeon based in Philadelphia. Born in New Jersey, Krein enjoyed an adventurous youth, competing in rodeos and volunteering as a firefighter, before embarking on a rigorous medical career and earning a reputation for compassionate care and academic expertise. Krein serves on the faculty at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, co-directs the Facial Aesthetic and Reconstructive Center, and has been teaching since 2007. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided informal health guidance to Joe Biden's campaign, though that advisory role attracted some scrutiny due to potential conflicts of interest. Love at first sight and marriage in time Ashley and Howard's romance began in 2010 when he visited her brother, Beau Biden, in the hospital during his recovery from illness, where Beau set him up with Ashley. Despite her initial hesitation, the sparks flew, and about a year after they met, Krein proposed in a truly cinematic moment — at sunset on a cliff in Big Sur, California. Like a true traditional man, he also sought, and got, her father's blessing before popping the question. The couple tied the knot on June 2, 2012, at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church in Greenville, Delaware, the same church where Ashley had been baptized. Their wedding beautifully blended traditions, with both a Catholic priest and a Reform Jewish rabbi officiating. The ceremony included both a ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) and a chuppah (wedding canopy), alongside traditional Catholic elements. After the ceremony, about 200 family members and friends gathered for a backyard reception at the Biden family's lakeside home in Wilmington. Biden himself prepared the setting, laying fresh sod and helping with décor, and carefully walked Ashley down the aisle. A visibly moved Biden even comforted his daughter, saying, 'This is the right guy, and he's getting a helluva woman!' The 'fallout' and the road to 'freedom' On August 11, Ashley filed for divorce in Philadelphia, ending her 13-year marriage to Dr. Krein. The same day, Biden's daughter shared a series of cryptic, empowering Instagram Stories: a park walk with a thumbs-up set to Beyoncé's 'Freedom,' a quote about 'new life, new beginnings… new boundaries,' and references to her late brother Beau and her father. But why parting ways after 13 years? Despite the growing speculation, the specific reason for their divorce remains unknown, since Philadelphia divorce complaints are not public records. Furthermore, Ashley or Dr. Krein has yet to issue a public statement to clarify their decision or the circumstances.

Stop using 'harijan' word in official communications: Odisha govt asks depts

Bhubaneswar, The Odisha government has asked all its departments, public and educational institutes and others to stop using the term 'harijan' in communications, officials said on Wednesday. Stop using 'harijan' word in official communications: Odisha govt asks depts The government suggested the authorities concerned that words like 'scheduled caste' in English and 'anusuchita jati' in Odia or other national languages should be used to "denote persons belonging to scheduled castes as notified under Article 341 of the Constitution", according to a letter issued on August 12 by the commissioner-cum-secretary of the ST and SC Development, Minorities and Backward Class Welfare Department. The letter was sent to all the additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries, and commissioner-cum-secretaries, the officials said. "They have been instructed to ensure that the word 'harijan' does not appear in any official communications, records, transactions, caste certificates, publications, departmental names, or any other form of use," one of the officials said. The authorities concerned are also directed to educate their staff and update existing documents and records accordingly, he said. They are also told to submit a compliance report on the action taken on the matter, another official said. The state government's action came in the wake of the guidelines issued by the Odisha Human Rights Commission , prohibiting the use of the word 'harijan'. These guidelines will be strictly enforced in all government offices, the official said. In 1982, the Centre had asked all state governments not to use the term 'harijan' to refer to Dalits. Following fresh guidelines prepared by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, a similar order was also issued in 2013 to all the states, directing them to ensure non-use of the 'harijan' word not only in caste certificates but also in official communications, the officials said. The Odisha Assembly has also prohibited the use of the word 'harijan', they said. This article was generated from an automated news agency feed without modifications to text.
