RB Leipzig step up Christopher Nkunku talks with Chelsea
The discussions are for a permanent deal, with Nkunku open to the possibility of rejoining his former club and keen on a permanent transfer.
Leipzig and Chelsea had already been in contact as informal talks continue over a deal for Xavi Simons to move to the Premier League club.

Bayern Munich have also been in negotiations with Chelsea over a move for Nkunku this summer. However, The Athletic reported in the Transfer DealSheet on Tuesday the shared desire of player and club to find a permanent move rather than a loan was proving an obstacle.
A deal for Nkunku to return to Leipzig is not considered close at this stage, and the forward remains open to other options.
The 27-year-old has been expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with The Athletic reporting in November that he was not happy at the club.
He has been the subject of enquiries from clubs in Germany, England and Italy, with Chelsea valuing the France international at €50million (£43.2million; $58.2m), having put a £65m price tag on him in January.
Nkunku joined Chelsea from Leipzig in the summer of 2023 and his Chelsea contract runs until 2029.
He made 43 appearances in all competitions last season and scored 14 goals but started just nine times in the Premier League.
Nkunku spent four years at Leipzig after joining from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. He scored 70 goals in 172 appearances for the Bundesliga club and won the DFB-Pokal twice.
He was named the Bundesliga player of the year for the 2021-22 season and was the league's joint-top scorer the following campaign with 16 goals in 25 appearances.

Chelsea v. West Ham Prediction: Match Preview, Odds, Betting Trends, Stats, and Best Bets
Graham Potter welcomes his former team Chelsea (0-1-0) to London Stadium Friday as the Blues take on West Ham (0-0-1). Last season, West Ham finished 14th in the Premier League, with Chelsea fourth. The visitors won 20 games, while West Ham achieved just 11 wins. Game Details and How to Watch West Ham v. Chelsea Date: Friday, August 22, 2025 Time: 3:00PM EST Site: London Stadium City: East London, England Network/Streaming: USA Network Each side was disappointing in their season-opener as the Blues played to a scoreless tie against Crystal Palace and while the Hammers were embarrassed away at newly promoted Sunderland, 3-0. Potter has yet to defeat his former club in seven previous attempts and Chelsea have won their last three against the Hammers. A Add to the list West Ham finished last season losing seven of their last eight at London Stadium. A glimmer of hope for the Hammers and their faithful is the fact they have not lost back-to-back games at home against Chelsea in 11 seasons. The Blues have only walked away from London Stadium with three points just three times in those 11 years. Before West Ham is completely buried, lets remember that Enzo Maresca's club managed but one shot on goal in the opener against Palace and that was in the 89th minute. After another summer of big money spent on signings to bolster the attack, supporters are left to wonder if their club is going to be improved at all this season. Chelsea will now be looking to avoid drawing consecutive blanks at the start of a league season for the first time since 1995-96, when their first two matches both ended goalless. Adding to the stress is Maresca has only managed two wins away from Stamford Bridge in the Blues' previous 11 league games. Is Chelsea going to be a contender for the title race at all this season? The lost points at Palace coupled with Friday's match against West Ham will not confirm they will challenge for league supremacy, but walking away with anything short of three points may eliminate them from truly threatening the Top of the Table. Amazing how much a negative result in a club's season opener can shift the market. Chelsea's odds to win the season-long title have grown to +900 while West Ham's relegation odds have shortened to +275. Best Bet: Chelsea are the best bet to win at West Ham in a London derby on Friday. The hosts suffered a 3-0 loss to Sunderland in their last Premier League game and will face a tougher task against Enzo Maresca's Chelsea team. Chelsea's last four Premier League games have all gone under and they have won two of their last three by the odd goal. A narrow 1-0 away win looks a decent correct score bet. *Spotlight iQ: Match Previews are provided by Spotlight Sports Group Follow our experts on socials to keep up with all the latest content from the staff: Jay Croucher (@croucherJD) Drew Dinsick (@whale_capper) Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) Trysta Krick (@Trysta_Krick) Joe Prince-Wright and Andy Edwards preview Matchweek 2's Fulham v. Miami Dolphins Stock Up/Stock Down: Patrick Paul flattens Josh Hines-Allen
MIAMI GARDENS ― The Miami Dolphins wrapped up training camp with a solid joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday, Aug. 21. The two teams will conclude their preseasons at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, Aug. 23. Miami Dolphins training camp stock up/stock down Stock Up LT Patrick Paul ― Patrick continues to excel and to do so against notable pass rushers. On this day, he held his own against the Jaguars' Josh Hines-Allen, even throwing him down to the ground in one 1-on-1 drill. S Minkah Fitzpatrick ― Minkah had yet another training camp interception. He has stood out since returning and fills a big void in the wake of Jevon Holland's departure. The best part? Fitzpatrick isn't just a talented player. He's a player youngsters can model. Stock Down G Jonah Savaiinaea ― We don't mean to pile onto a rookie guard. But he had his hands full at times on Thursday. He will continue to work hard and surely will continue to improve. Just don't expect dominance and consistency immediately. RB Jaylen Wright ― We are hoping Wright's apparent lower-body injury is not too serious. But he did leave the field with trainers. The Dolphins' running back situation is concerning at the moment, with Alexander Mattison already down for the season. Shedeur Sanders will play in Browns' preseason finale, get third-string reps behind Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel
After an oblique injury kept him out of the Cleveland Browns' second preseason game, Shedeur Sanders is set to take the field this weekend. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters on Thursday that, barring any injury setbacks, Sanders will be the team's third-string quarterback on Saturday, as Cleveland takes on the Los Angeles Rams for the third and final preseason game. Flacco, who was named as Cleveland's starting quarterback earlier this week, will start in Saturday's game. Rookie Dillon Gabriel will be the QB2, followed by Sanders. Stefanski previously said that they wanted to treat the final preseason game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. As a result, Flacco and the starters will play 20-25 plays on Saturday before turning to the backups. Sanders started in the Browns' first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, putting up a solid showing in the 30-10 win. The rookie played for the first half and part of the third quarter, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Gabriel got the start the next week, throwing 13-for-18 for 143 yards in Cleveland's 22-13 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to Flacco, Gabriel and Sanders, the Browns have three other quarterbacks under contract. Kenny Pickett, once a favorite for the starting job, has been sidelined with a hamstring injury. Tyler Huntley, a veteran backup who was signed earlier this month, has had significant preseason snaps so far, but is destined to be towards the end of the depth chart. And the injury-plagued (and controversy-plagued) Deshaun Watson is likely to miss another season after tearing his Achilles twice last year.
