341 Claims, Objections Filed By Individual Electors Disposed In Bihar: ECI
The election office has so far received 13,970 claims and objections from electors concerning Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, said an ECI bulletin.
It said as per rules, the claims and objections are disposed by the ERO/AERO concerned after the expiry of 7 days following the verification of eligibility of documents.
However, even after 12 days of the publication of electoral draft rolls, none of the political parties has filed any complaint, the poll panel said.
The ECI said that in Bihar since August 1, as many as 63,591 new electors, who have turned 18 after the SIR exercise, have filled forms for inclusion in the voter list.
For such first-time voters, the election office has received six forms from Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties.
The SIR exercise in Bihar has been attacked by the Opposition parties over alleged irregularities, which they allege threaten to deprive lakhs of voters of their right to vote - a charge denied by the ECI.
The poll panel published its draft electoral rolls on August 1 and has kept a window of one month for people, parties and their BLAs to bring their complaints and grievances regarding inclusion or exclusion from the draft electoral list.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has 47,506 BLAs, the Congress has 17,549, and the Left has over 2,000, all adding up to over 67,000.
The ECI has been routinely reaching out to political parties to join the revision exercise and bring to its notice instances of disenfranchisement, if any.
'Submit your claims and objections to rectify any errors in the draft Electoral Roll of Bihar published on August 1. So far, not even a single claim or objection has been submitted by any political party,' the EC said in a statement.
The ECI highlighted that between June 23 and July 25, the Congress has increased its BLAs to 17,549 (an increase of 105 per cent), Rashtriya Janata Dal to 47,506 (an increase of 1 per cent), Janata Dal (United) to 36,550 (an increase of 31 per cent) and BJP to 53,338 (an increase by 3 per cent).
The ECI concluded the enumeration phase of the SIR between June 24 to July 25. More than 7.24 crore electors -- out of a total of 7.89 crore -- submitted their enumeration forms during the exercise.
At the end, about 65 lakh voters were found to be missing from the draft electoral rolls published on August 1. This included 22 lakh deceased electors (2.83 per cent), 36 lakh (4.59 per cent) who had permanently shifted or were not found and seven lakh (0.89 per cent) who had enrolled at more than one place, ECI data showed.

In its updated policy manual, the agency said it is 'restoring robust screening and vetting processes to detect aliens seeking to defraud or abuse the immigration system,' adding that 'aliens who use false information or deceitful practices to unfairly obtain immigration advantages will face serious consequences.' What the rule says The change centres on the 'false claim to US citizenship' ground of inadmissibility, which Congress introduced on September 30, 1996. Since then, any immigrant who makes such a claim to gain an immigration or legal benefit is permanently inadmissible, usually with no option for a waiver. USCIS explained that Congress allowed a narrow exception for those who had been permanent residents in the United States before turning 16. The agency also referred to a 2019 ruling by the Board of Immigration Appeals in Matter of Zhang. That decision established that a false claim can still have consequences even if the person did not knowingly misrepresent themselves. USCIS incorporated the ruling into its guidance in 2020, noting that 'it is not necessary to show intent to find an alien inadmissible for a false claim to US citizenship.' How officers will apply the guidance According to USCIS, the latest update 'provides the steps an officer should follow to determine inadmissibility' and sets out the factors that must be considered in evaluating a false claim case. The guidance applies immediately to all pending and future applications. The agency said the effort is not only about enforcement but also education. 'We are actively increasing public awareness among aliens and the public about the consequences of committing immigration fraud,' USCIS said. US immigrant population falls by 2 million The warning comes as new government data suggests the immigrant population in the United States may have fallen by around 2 million in the first six months of the year. Steven Camarota, director of research at the Washington-based Centre for Immigration Studies, said the figures may reflect President Donald Trump's stricter immigration approach. In his analysis, he wrote that tougher enforcement could be discouraging foreign-born respondents from completing surveys or from identifying themselves as immigrants. 'It is possible that the observed decline in the foreign-born was due, at least in part, to a greater reluctance by immigrants to participate.' LUCKNOW Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday accused the BJP and election authorities of trying to manipulate records, saying that out of 18,000 affidavits submitted by his party, only 14 had received what he called 'half-baked and baseless' clarifications. He slammed the Election Commission of India (ECI) for terming his complaint about irregularities in electoral rolls in various districts of UP as 'baseless and misleading'. The row between the ECI and the SP chief started after the press conference of chief election commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar on August 17, in which Kumar said that the commission had not received any affidavits from Uttar Pradesh or from Yadav. DMs of Jaunpur, Kasganj and Barabanki have publicly refuted his charges of wrongful deletion of voters' names. 'From the Election Commission to the district magistrate, and from the circle officer to the lekhpal, even after all their manipulations, the 'BJP-Election Commission-District Magistrate trio' has only managed to provide 'half-baked, baseless' explanations for just 14 out of the 18,000 affidavits we submitted,' he stated in a post on X. 'Even if we subtract those 14 from the 18,000 affidavits, 17,986 still remain to be accounted for. This is the math of justice,' he added. 'The BJP had snatched the voting rights of the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) community by dividing or temporarily suppressing their votes, but now the community has resolved to permanently remove the BJP. No suppression of rights, no voter fraud and no vote manipulation. This time it will be our PDA government,' Yadav said. Replying to the CEC's statement, the SP chief on Monday distributed copies of affidavits to media persons in the Parliament complex. The affidavits, according to Yadav, related to anomalies in various constituencies. He said these documented cases of voter deletions, which, he alleged, were carried out in a targeted manner against certain communities. 'Communities like Maurya, Pal, Baghel and Rathore have seen voter deletions aimed at weakening their political impact. In some seats, we lost by narrow margins, and these deletions played a direct role,' he said. After Yadav's allegations, the ECI moved into action mode on Tuesday. DMs of various districts were directed to probe into the complaint and submit a reply. DMs of Lucknow, Kasganj, Jaunpur and Barabanki replied to the complaint on Wednesday stating that the names of the voters were deleted from the electoral rolls due to death, migration, while some voters were listed twice on the voter list and one name was deleted as per rules, they said. Replying to the DMs' statements, Yadav, in a post on X on Wednesday, stated: 'The public has an innocent question for the DMs: why did the response come after so many years?' 'The way the DMs of Kasganj, Barabanki and Jaunpur have suddenly become overly active regarding our 18,000 affidavits has proven one thing: the Election Commission's claim that 'the affidavit issue is false,' meaning no affidavits were received, has turned out to be a lie,' he added. 'If no affidavits were received at all, then what are these DMs responding to? Now, the involvement of these DMs, who are giving superficial responses to merely fulfill formalities, should also be investigated. The court should take cognizance; either the Election Commission or the DMs are surely in the wrong, aren't they?' he asked.
