'Survivor' announced its cast this week for the show's 50th season, but not every fan was too pleased with who got invited to come back. While the return of 'The White Lotus' creator Mike White and fan favorites like Cirie Fields and Ozzy Lusth generated excitement, the omission of iconic players like Rob Mariano (aka Boston Rob), Parvati Shallow and more left many fans scratching their heads as they wondered why so many players from older seasons of 'Survivor' were not included.
Boston Rob, whose reality show career has flourished in recent years with appearances on 'The Traitors' and more, has now taken to Instagram to explain his absence from 'Survivor 50.' It turns out the show did ask him to return, but he made the decision to opt out in order to give other players their chance to return to the 'Survivor' spotlight.

'Wow!!! I got all of your DM's and messages so so many thank you all!! But literally don't be mad,' Boston Rob wrote in a message to fans. ''Survivor' and Jeff Probst early on they called and asked… I just felt like I have played so many times and I am truly fulfilled with my 'Survivor' journey. I wanted my spot to go to someone else that deserved another chance!'
'I've gotten so much out of 'Survivor,'' he added. 'It will always be a part of who I am! I'm eternally grateful. Like I said ..It's gonna be OK. I feel like something good is coming!!!'
Boston Rob is one of 'Survivor's' most prolific contestants and the only one to compete on five seasons of the show. He debuted in Season 4, 'Survivor: Marquesas,' and placed 10th, before returning for the first time in Season 8's 'Survivor: All-Stars' and being the runner-up. He appeared on 'Survivors: Heroes vs. Villains' (13th place) and won 'Survivor: Redemption' before serving as a mentor on 'Survivor: Island.' His last appearance on the show was Season 40, 'Survivor: Winners at War.'
'Survivor 50' will feature 24 returning players and will premiere on CBS in Spring 2026. The milestone anniversary season promises to 'push the series into uncharted territory and impact the players like never before.' For the first time, the game is also being planned by the fans. Earlier this year, fans were able to vote on key elements of the game, including on whether there will be idols, whether fire making will remain and whether the live finale and reunion show will return in Los Angeles. The 'Survivor 50' contestants will compete for a $1 million cash prize.

Brad Pitt's mother Jane Pitt dies at 84, family mourns her loss

Brad Pitt 's mother, Jane Pitt, has died at the age of 84, the actor's niece, Sydney Pitt, announced this week. According to her obituary, Jane Pitt died on Tuesday, Aug. 5. She is survived by her husband William Alvin "Bill" Pitt and their children, Brad Pitt, Doug Pitt and Julie Neal (née Pitt). In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Sydney Pitt, Doug Pitt's daughter, wrote a touching tribute to her grandmother, celebrating her legacy and the love she gave to others. "My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier," she wrote in the caption alongside photos of Jane Pitt throughout her life. "If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked," she continued. "She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do." Sydney Pitt also recalled how every year before school, Jane would give each grandchild a "special day," filled with activities like banana splits, board games and rides at Silver Dollar City. "She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it," Sydney Pitt added. "I don't know how we move forward without her. But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form." "We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us ♥️🪽✨🦜," she concluded the post. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Jane Pitt was a former elementary school teacher who raised Brad Pitt and her two other children with her husband, Bill Pitt, in Springfield, Missouri. While Jane Pitt and Bill typically avoided the spotlight, they occasionally accompanied their famous son on the red carpet, including at the 2012 Oscars and the 2014 premiere of Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken." Her obituary also highlights Jane Pitt's passion for art and her devoted role as a grandmother. "Jane was a gifted artist who expressed herself most vividly through painting," the obituary read. "Her love for art became a cherished bond between her and her grandchildren during craft sessions and painting lessons that created lasting memories." "Known affectionately as 'Grammy,' Jane found immense joy in celebrating each grandchild's uniqueness through one-on-one traditions lovingly known as 'Your Special Day,'" the note continued. "These treasured moments remain among the fondest memories for all fourteen of her grandchildren."

'Devil Wears Prada 2' photos tease Anne Hathaway's possible love interest

Andy Sachs has officially left the "lumpy blue sweater" behind. Photos from the set of "The Devil Wears Prada 2" may offer some insight into the big-city life of Anne Hathaway's character two decades after the beloved original book adaptation came out on June 30, 2006. In photos captured Aug. 5 on the streets of Brooklyn, Hathaway, 42, is seen getting cozy with a new costar, "Colin from Accounts" actor/creator Patrick Brammall. Hathaway, whose character Andy is presumably out from under the thumb of "Runway" magazine overlord Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), dons a glittery blue, shin-length Rabanne dress from the designer's 2026 cruise collection. Perhaps an ode to the cerulean sweater that prompted Priestly's long-winded rant in the original film? That remains to be seen. It's unclear what character Brammall, 49, plays in the sequel. The Australian actor is married to "Colin from Accounts" costar and co-creator Harriet Dyer. In the first "Devil Wears Prada," Andy's love life is largely a casualty as her job as Priestly's second assistant takes precedence. She lives with her boyfriend, Nate (Adrian Grenier), but the two ultimately are unable to find middle ground as Andy develops an edge while working in the cutthroat fashion world. She also dabbles in a romance with journalist Christian Thompson (Simon Baker), which doesn't pan out. Details of the highly anticipated sequel are scant while it's in production, but fans have for weeks dissected the characters' fashion, as captured in paparazzi photos. "The Devil Wears Prada," based on the book of the same name, grossed more than $325 million at the worldwide box office and earned Streep an Academy Award nomination for best actress. 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' cast Among the returning stars are Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux and B.J. Novak flesh out the cast, according to Variety and People. Undoubtedly bringing comic relief, "Sex Lives of College Girls" actress Pauline Chalamet will also appear, according to the outlets. The film has also brought in Broadway talent, with "Maybe Happy Ending" star Helen J. Shen and "Oh, Mary!" actor Conrad Ricamora confirmed, per Variety. The halls of Runway won't be missing familiar faces, though. Tracie Thoms, who played Lily, Hathaway's best friend, will reprise her character, as will Tibor Feldman, who portrayed media executive Irv Ravitz. David Frankel, director of the original "Devil Wears Prada," is returning for the sequel, and the first movie's screenwriter, Aline Brosh McKenna, is writing the script. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" will give Hathaway the opportunity to revisit one of her most iconic early roles, 20 years later. The first movie hit theaters just five years after she made her film debut with 2001's "The Princess Diaries." When will 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' come out? "The Devil Wears Prada 2" is set for release on May 1, 2026. Contributing: Brendan Morrow and Anna Kaufman, USA TODAY

Aubrey Plaza to star as Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss in new biopic

Aubrey Plaza is set to return to the spotlight with a characteristically offbeat new role portraying Heidi Fleiss, the infamous Hollywood madam. Titled 'The Heidi Fleiss Story,' the dark comedy biopic will follow the chaotic final days leading up to Fleiss's 1993 arrest, when authorities exposed her high-end prostitution ring operating in Los Angeles, according to Deadline and other industry publications. Plaza, who splits her time between Los Angeles and Marin County, will star and produce the film through her company, Evil Hag. The project marks her first major role since the death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, in January. Fleiss rose to prominence in the early 1990s for allegedly running a clandestine operation that catered to celebrities, executives and other powerful figures. She was said to have taken over the business from her mentor, convicted madam Elizabeth 'Madam Alex' Adams, and quickly expanded it into a multimillion-dollar enterprise. That empire collapsed in June 1993, when Fleiss was arrested and later charged with pandering, tax evasion and money laundering. Prosecutors alleged she laundered more than $1.5 million through shell companies and false records. The case drew national headlines, fueled by speculation over a still-sealed list of high-profile clients. Plaza has been gradually returning to public life following Baena's death by suicide. In February, she appeared on 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special,' wearing a pink tie-dyed T-shirt — a quiet tribute to Baena's pandemic-era hobby and the couple's wedding-day attire. The pair had been together for more than a decade, though they had separated in the months before his death. Plaza's upcoming slate also includes a leading role in 'Honey Don't!,' the latest film from Ethan Coen, arriving in theaters on Aug. 22. She also appears in Francis Ford Coppola 's 'Megalopolis' and previously earned praise for her performances in 'The White Lotus' Season 2 and in the Sundance Film Festival favorite ' My Old Ass. ' Next, she'll star alongside Susan Sarandon in 'The Accompanist,' an indie drama that marks the feature directorial debut of 'The Office' alum Zach Woods.
