Phil Foden's cousin and her three children narrowly escape horror house fire in middle of the night

Daily Mail11-05-2025
Manchester City star Phil Foden has been left distraught after his cousin's house went up in flames in the middle of the night.
Codie Owen, who the England midfielder, 24, regards as a 'sister', was in her property in Edgeley, Stockport, with her three children when the inferno began ravaging through the house.
Ms Owen initially carried two of her young children out of the property and to safety before bravely re-entering to rescue the third.
The blaze is believed to have been sparked by a faulty extractor fan in the first floor bathroom.
Shocked by the news, a source close to the Premier League footballer has revealed he is now helping Codie and her kids find somewhere to live while her house is repaired from the damage.
They told The Sun: 'Phil was really upset when he heard what had happened. 'He is really close to Codie.
'They are best pals and spent loads of time together as children. He regards her as a sister and dotes on her children.
'He's now helping her find alternative accommodation as she can't return to the house for a while due to the smoke damage.'
Fire crews spent around two hours extinguishing the blaze at the house near League One side Stockport County's stadium, Edgeley Park.
Emergency services also rushed Codie and her children to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, over smoke inhalation concerns.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service told MailOnline: 'At 1.20am on Friday 2 May, three fire engines attended a house fire in Edgeley, Stockport.
'The fire was on the first floor, and crews used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and a positive pressure ventilation fan to tackle it.
'One adult and three children were taken to hospital for precautionary checks. Crews were in attendance for two hours.'
The fire at his cousin's property came just two days after MailOnline reported how the midfielder had listed his mansion for sale at an eye-watering price of £3million.
Foden moved out of the sprawling property in Prestbury, Cheshire, last year after a raucous party led to the police being called.
He now resides in a more isolated home in the countryside with his family but is still within commuting distance of City's training ground in east Manchester.
The mansion, which has a price tag of £3.25million, is complete with its own cinema, indoor pool and five bathrooms.
It also boasts its own gym, bar, hot tub and extensive gardens with a swing and a trampoline and has been fitted with a private electric security gate.

Chloe Kelly sent a subtle but powerful message to fans with her pre-game beauty ritual

Lionesses star Chloe Kelly's nails weren't just pretty– they sent a powerful message about owning femininity in football Chloe Kelly isn't just a footballing powerhouse, she's a beauty girl too. During last night's nail-biting England vs Spain Euros final, all eyes were understandably on the pitch. But if you zoomed in even slightly, you might have noticed something subtly powerful about the Lioness forward's manicure: a delicate two-tone butter-yellow and pastel pink polish, perfectly neat, slightly glossy and very intentionally chosen, we think. In a world where women in sport are often expected to tuck away their femininity, Chloe's manicure felt like a needed reminder that you can be both– powerful and polished, strong and soft, fierce on the pitch but still into nail art. We know from her past interviews that Chloe loves her nails, and her go-to is BIAB (builder in a bottle). If you haven't heard of it, this salon-favourite manicure is known for being ultra-strong yet still natural-looking. It's widely considered to be the mani choice for those who really don't want to risk chips, especially for those who need to concentrate on slamming footballs into the back of the net. It's not the first time Chloe has used beauty to make a statement, either. At the 2022 Women's Euros final, Chloe scored that winning goal against Germany, all the while sporting a sleek blonde ponytail and a flawless nude manicure that fans instantly clocked. Since then, she's embraced beauty as part of her game-day prep, showing that being competitive and caring about your hair, skin or nails aren't mutually exclusive. Buy the new Lionesses Euro 2025 kit Various Fanatics See the range Product Description It's a great reminder for women in sport. For so long, women have had to dull down anything remotely feminine for fear of not being taken seriously. However, when male athletes groom, it's usually seen as a show of status. Take Cristiano Ronaldo 's impeccably gelled hair or Jack Grealish 's signature Alice band, for example. The two pro players are rarely, if ever, criticised for caring about how they look; rather, it adds to their brand. Their grooming choices tend to be framed as confident or stylish, not vain or distracting. Still, female players like Chloe are often scrutinised for their choices. When they embrace beauty, whether it's a fun manicure or a thought-out hairstyle, it's sometimes raised as a contradiction to their athleticism, or even a signal they're not serious about the sport. The fact that the forward proudly displays her feminine pink and yellow nails on the pitch proves she's refusing to bow in fear of being called an unserious player because of her beauty choices. Chloe's most recent yellow set was done by @lulusnailszurich, who used The Gel Bottle colours to create the look. The exact yellow shade is called ' Queen Bee ', and it's a buttery yellow that has reigned supreme this summer in beauty and style trends. If you're wondering whether you can get Chloe's favourite BIAB-style mani without booking in, you absolutely can. Gel kits have come a long way, and with a decent builder gel, a buffer, and a UV or LED lamp, it's never been easier to DIY a set at home that won't snap off if you so much as look at your car keys funny. Shop DIY gel and BIAB polishes and kits to save on Chloe's go-to manicure Though there's an initial cost to buy a kit, you could save yourself hundreds of pounds on salon manicures, like our head of beauty Zoe did, by learning to do gel and BIAB manis for yourself... Mylee The Full Works Complete Gel Polish Kit Shop it for £129.99 I'd recommend spending on this Mylee The Full Works Complete Gel Polish Kit, because it includes a base coat, a top coat, polish remover, polish prep liquid, cuticle oil and eight gel polish shades. You'd have to buy these individually anyway, so you're getting a great deal by investing in the full kit. Mylee has also just launched Builder Polishes for £14, which can be used to give a home BIAB manicure. 14-Day Manicure Builder Gel At-Home Kit Shop it for £94 A full builder gel kit to give you long-lasting nails like Chloe. You can buy individual shades if you need more, but this kit comes with two (and you can select them). Their hema-free formulas also minimise the risk of skin irritation, making it a safe way to do DIY cured nails. The Gel Bottle's BIAB Start Kit Shop it for £102.75 Long-lasting formulations with no chipping or lifting for up to 4+ weeks. This kit comes with 10 polishes and tools to get you going. The lamp comes separately for £119. *It's worth noting this is a professional product, and while anyone can order it, it's advised you sign up for a course to learn how to use products safely and properly. Viktor Gyokeres issues early demand to Arsenal captain - 'The only thing I need'

Viktor Gyokeres has flown out to Asia to link up with his new Arsenal team-mates and their £63.7million signing has already made it clear what he'll demand from them New Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres wants one thing from captain Martin Odegaard: assists. Gyokeres, 27, finally completed his £63.7million move to the Emirates on Saturday, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract. ‌ The Swede's arrival ends Arsenal's long search for a striker and boss Mikel Arteta hopes that he'll be the missing piece of their jigsaw. Gyokeres scored 97 goals in just 101 games for Sporting Lisbon, making him one of the most prolific marksmen in Europe. ‌ But the former Coventry City talisman will need service and wants Odegaard to provide it. In a video posted on Arsenal's social media channels, Gyokeres can be seen reading out a letter from the Gunners skipper. ‌ "If there's anything you need or any way I can help, just give me a shout," part of Odegaard's message read. "Some assists, please, would be nice," Gyokeres interjected. The 27-year-old then continued reading, saying: "Looking forward to working together and sharing success in the season ahead. All the best, Martin." Gyokeres then said: "Very nice. The only thing I need is some assists." The Sweden international met Odegaard for the first time on Sunday, as he arrived in Singapore to watch Arsenal beat Newcastle 3-2. Odegaard scored the winning goal, converting an 84th-miniute penalty. Next up for the Gunners is a clash with bitter north London rivals Tottenham on Thursday in Hong Kong. Gyokeres could make his debut in the 'friendly' but his lack of match fitness may well delay his first outing in an Arsenal shirt. Is Viktor Gyokeres the answer to Arsenal's problems? Have your say in the comments section. ‌ Arteta didn't rule out the possibility of Gyokeres featuring, though, saying: "Well I think he hasn't had a single training session with the team since the last game with Sporting when they became champions. "So we will assess him tomorrow, he's done all the medicals, everything is looking good but to get him up to speed with the right levels of fitness I think is very important. So we're not going to stop him, we want him with us as quick as possible but we'll have to assess and the medical team will do that." If he does appear, Gyokeres will don the No.14 shirt famously worn by Gunners legend Thierry Henry. His competitive debut is likely to be against Manchester United - who were also interested in signing him - on Sunday, August 16, the opening weekend of the 2025-26 Premier League season. Ajax star makes feelings clear amid 'difficult' transfer negotiations with Chelsea

Chelsea are keen to sign a new left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella and have opened talks with Ajax to sign 19-year-old star Jorrel Hato, who sat out of their game on Sunday Jorrel Hato asked to be left out of Ajax's friendly against Como on the weekend because he's in negotiations to join Chelsea. Hato has been eyed by a number of Premier League sides this summer after catching the eye of scouts and Chelsea are in pole position to sign him. ‌ The 19-year-old defender, who can play at centre-back and left-back, has already made 111 appearances for the Dutch giants. He still has three years left on his contract with Ajax, but it now seems likely he will leave this summer. ‌ Liverpool and Arsenal have both been credited with interest in the youngster whose versatility and experience make him an attractive prospect. Ajax are braced for his exit after Hato made it clear to head coach John Heitinga that he would rather not play against on Sunday. ‌ That's according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, who report that negotiations with Chelsea remain 'difficult' despite the player's desire to leave. Ajax are understood to be seeking a fee of between €55-60million (£48m-£52.5m) for Hato, while Chelsea are aiming for a figure closer to £40m. Hato has now missed two straight pre-season matches for Ajax, having also sat out of the previous game against Celtic. Heitinga had claimed his first absence was due to a lack of match fitness, but it is clear that more is going on. Chelsea want a left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella, with Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga and Ishe Samuels-Smith all leaving this summer. They opened negotiations for the 2024/25 Eredivisie Talent of the Season last week and are hoping to progress them this week. 'Yes, the club [Chelsea] have contacted Ajax,' Hato's agent Humphry Nijman told De Telegraaf on Wednesday. Hato appears to have changed his tune over the past month, having previously declared himself to be 'at home' in Amsterdam. He played 50 times last season as Ajax came up just short of rivals PSV Eindhoven in the league and appeared determined to kick on. ‌ 'The smartest thing is to look ahead to pre-season, that's what I do,' Hato told the club website. 'Of course you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship, I still have plenty of time. I don't think I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years. 'In the Dutch league, you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes top. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.'
