Trump slaps 25% tariff on Indian goods with an EO
In the Executive Order (EO) titled 'Further Modifying The Reciprocal Tariff Rates', Trump announced tariff rates for nearly 70 nations. A 25 per cent 'Reciprocal Tariff, Adjusted' has been imposed on India, according to the list released.
The executive order however does not mention the 'penalty' that Trump had said India will have to pay because of its purchases of Russian military equipment and energy.
On Wednesday, Trump announced the 25 per cent tariff on India and an additional penalty for New Delhi's purchases from Russia. While August 1 was the tariff deadline, the new levies will come into effect from August 7. In April, Trump had announced that India will face a 26 per cent 'discounted reciprocal tariff', a per cent higher than the rate announced now.
Responding to the executive order, Senior Vice President of the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and former Deputy US Trade Representative Wendy Cutler said in a statement that India, a 'promising candidate for an early agreement', was assigned a 25 per cent tariff. This 'calls into question the fate of a bilateral trade agreement. The President's annoyance with India on a range of trade and broader matters rang through his Truth Social post,' Cutler said. Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO) Director General Ajay Sahai said that the order provides relaxation for goods in transit and those loaded on ship for final sailing to the US by August 7. Goods cleared for consumption in the US by October 5 will also not be subject to reciprocal tariffs, thus providing some relief to exporters of goods already shipped or likely to be shipped this week.
According to Cutler, US customs officials will face challenges implementing the executive order, particularly with the different tariff rates now applied across the world. The seven-day breathing period before implementation will help, but importers should expect start-up problems at a minimum.
'US companies will also face challenges as they navigate this new tariff landscape. Of particular concern is the continued uncertainties they will face with new sectoral tariffs coming and possibilities of additional tariffs if the Administration believes countries are not operating in good faith in their implementation efforts,' she said. In the executive order, Trump stated that some trading partners have agreed to, or are on the verge of agreeing to, meaningful trade and security commitments with the US, thus signalling their sincere intentions to permanently remedy trade barriers and align with Washington on economic and national security matters.
Other trading partners, despite having engaged in negotiations, have offered terms that, in my judgment, do not sufficiently address imbalances in our trading relationship or have failed to align sufficiently with the United States on economic and national-security matters,' he said. The tariff modifications shall be 'effective with respect to goods entered for consumption, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after 12:01 am eastern daylight time 7 days after the date of this order.' The tariffs in the list range from 10 per cent to 40 per cent, with Japan being charged 15 per cent, Laos and Myanmar (40 per cent each), Pakistan (19 per cent), Sri Lanka (20 per cent) and the United Kingdom (10 per cent).
Declaring that the US has a massive trade deficit with India, Trump had said that while 'India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the world, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any country. 'Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia's largest buyer of energy, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to stop the killing in Ukraine — All things not good!' Trump said.

"Has His Reasons": Shashi Tharoor On Rahul Gandhi's "Dead Economy" Remark
Mumbai: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday refused to comment on party leader Rahul Gandhi's endorsing US President Donald Trump's 'dead economy' remark about India and said the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha may have had his "own reasons" for saying so. The remarks came after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to the mediapersons, Tharoor said, "I don't want to comment on what my party leader has said. He has his reasons for saying so. My concern is that our relationship with the US, as a strategic and economic partnership, is important for us. We are exporting around 90 billion worth of goods to America. We can't be in a position to lose that or have it diminish significantly." "We must wish our negotiators strength to get a fair deal for India. We should also be talking to other regions for exporting our goods. Then we could make up for some of what we might lose in the US. We have to support our negotiators," he added. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday agreed with US President Donald Trump's statement that the Indian economy is "dead" and said he is "glad" that the US President has stated a fact. Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said that the whole world knows the Indian economy is "dead" except for the Prime Minister and Finance Minister. "Yes, he is right. Everybody knows this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Everybody knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. I am glad that President Trump has stated a fact. The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy. BJP has finished the economy to help Adani," Rahul Gandhi said. On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump made a shocking statement on his social media platform Truth Social after the announcement of 25 percent tariffs against India and threatened an additional "penalty" for importing Russian oil.

Trump Targets Nigerians in Visa Crackdown on Birthright Citizenship Firstpost Africa
Trump Targets Nigerians in Visa Crackdown on Birthright Citizenship | Firstpost Africa | N18G In a renewed immigration crackdown, the Trump administration has issued a warning to Nigerians against traveling to the U.S. with the primary intent of giving birth — a practice aimed at securing automatic citizenship for their children under the U.S. Constitution. Nigeria remains among the top countries involved in so-called 'birth tourism.' The U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has also introduced tougher visa rules, including issuing mostly single-entry, short-validity visas. This move is part of broader restrictions targeting African nations, including higher visa fees, tighter interview rules, and increased digital screening — all under Washington's push to curb immigration loopholes. Ohio vs Akula: US to send its powerful submarine to Russia, will it start nuclear war? will Putin...
Ohio vs Akula: US to send its powerful submarine to Russia, will it start nuclear war? will Putin… Washington, DC: Following the comments of former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, United States President Donald Trump has directed two nuclear submarines to position themselves in the 'appropriate region.' He took to Truth Social and wrote, 'I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that. Words are very important and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances.' What Exactly Did Dmitry Medvedev Say? Currently serving as the deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev shared a post on Telegram, warning the US President about the 'Dead Hand'. 'As for the talk about the 'dead economies' of India and Russia, and 'entering dangerous territory' – maybe he should recall his favorite movies about 'the walking dead,' and also remember how dangerous the so-called 'Dead Hand,' which doesn't even exist, could be,' he wrote in the post. Russian MP's Reply To Trump However, the Kremlin has not reacted to Trump's threat but a senior MP named Viktor Vodolatsky has issued a warning to the US President that Russia has more nuclear subs to deal with US submarines coming to his country. 'The number of Russian nuclear submarines in the world's oceans is much more than the US submarines and the areas to which US President Donald Trump has ordered to send submarines have been under their control for a long time,' he said. The aggressive statements given by the top leadership of both countries ignited the possibility of a war under the oceans. Ohio Class Ballistic Missile Submarine America has Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBN) which are known for their nuclear weapons capability and stealth capability. The Navy has 14 nuclear submarines, loaded with long-range Trident II D5 missiles, 20 each. These missiles are capable of destroying a large area. US's Fast Attack Submarines Apart from SSBN, the US has three types of nuclear-powered attack submarines—Virginia-class, Seawolf-class and Los Angeles-class. These subs are loaded with deadly Tomahawk missiles, Harpoon missiles and MK-48 torpedoes, capable of destroying any ship and submarine. These attack submarines are designed to search for and destroy enemy ships. The US also has 24 Virginia-class SSNs and three Seawolf-class submarines. Russia's Submarine Fleet, The Largest In The World It is to be noted that Russia has one of the largest submarine fleets in the world. The country has a total of 64 powerful subs. These subs include 14 SSBNs, Borei-class and Delta IV-class. 8 Borei-class SSBNs, which are equipped with 16 Bulava SLBMs and six 533 mm torpedo launchers. These submarines are capable of firing rockets and under sea mines, making them more dangerous than other subs. The Russian Navy also has 4 Yasen-class nuclear attack submarines. These subs are small in size so that they can attack with great speed. Russia also has 5 Akula class submarines, which are known for their super-destructive powers.
