Redmond Police use drone to catch alleged shoplifter
After an alleged shoplifter was reported at a store in Redmond, police deployed a drone to follow the man as he left the shopping center, the Redmond Police Department (RPD) posted on X.
The Drone as a First Responder (DFR) followed the man for more than a mile starting on Northeast 76th Street. The operator relayed his location to officers, which led to an arrest, RPD said.
Drone video posted by RPD shows the man get into his car, drive from the store's parking lot and onto highway 520.
Officers arrested the man without incident and said he had a criminal history of armed robbery.
The Redmond Police Department launched the Drones as First Responders program in April 2024 to, 'improve response times, provide real-time aerial surveillance to patrol units on the ground before they can arrive at an incident,' RPD said on their website.

RPD: 18 illegal dirt bikes and ATVs towed, multiple citations issued
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Rochester Police Department is continuing its crackdown on illegal ATV and dirt bike activities. According to RPD, they conducted an ATV and dirt bike detail on Wednesday and towed 16 illegal dirt ikes and two illegal ATVs. They were also able to recover a stolen motorcycle. Lake Ave. robbery leads to chase and arrest, two RPD cars collide
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A robbery and police chase in Rochester led to an arrest and two police officers being hospitalized. Around 9:21 p.m. on Tuesday, a minor was in the area of Lake Avenue and Spencer Street when a white Kia pulled up next to him. The victim was pulled into the car, was punched, and had his cell phone taken from him before driving away. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A few minutes later, an officer found the suspected vehicle in the area of West Main Street and King Street. RPD tried to stop the car near Jefferson Avenue, but it did not stop, and a chase ensued. Officers were able to stop the car with a tire deflation device, which caused it to stop on South Plymouth Avenue. It was discovered that the car was stolen from Brighton, but it's unknown if the driver was the one who stole it. During the case, two RPD vehicles collided. Both officers in both cars were taken to the hospital with injuries and were released. Rochester man sentenced in criminal sexual conduct case
Jun. 2—ROCHESTER — A man accused of sexually assaulting a girl and an adult woman and possessing child sexual abuse materials was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison. Zeferino Cano Rafael, 27, of Rochester, was charged in January 2023 with two felony counts of first- and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was charged with possession of CSAM in February 2023 after law enforcement found a sexually explicit video on his phone. Cano Rafael entered an Alford plea on May 20 to second-degree criminal sexual conduct. An Alford plea means a defendant agrees there is likely enough evidence for a conviction, but they do not admit guilt. The plea was accepted in Olmsted County District Court on June 2. Olmsted County District Judge Christa Daily ordered Cano Rafael to serve a 90-month sentence in the St. Cloud correctional facility with restitution reserved for five years. He received 864 days of credit for time served. In exchange for the Alford plea, the remaining charges were dismissed. According to the criminal complaint, an 11-year-old girl reported to the Rochester Police Department in July 2022 that Cano Rafael had been sexually assaulting her since 2018. The girl would have been around 6. A woman reported to RPD that Cano Rafael had repeatedly sexually assaulted her since 2018, the complaint said. He denied any wrongdoing regarding the juvenile but told police he would sneak into the adult woman's room at night. Following his arrest, further investigation by police found a sexually obscene video of a girl between 6 and 8 years old on his mobile phone. Officers believe the video was filmed in March 2022.
