Endangered 80-year-old man found in wooded area in Redmond

An 80-year-old man who suffers from dementia and diabetes was found in a wooded area in Redmond on May 7 at around 7 a.m., the Redmond Police Department (RPD) posted on X. Yeongcheol Lee left his house between 3 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., his family reported to Redmond police. After police were unable to find him while searching on the ground, a Drone First Responder (DFR) was deployed to help locate him from the air, RPD posted. Video posted on X shows the drone hovering above the wooded area, then finding Lee sitting in the bushes, where the pilot relayed his location to officers. Police found him uninjured and were able to bring him back to his family, the post said.

What we know The incident happened just before 3 p.m. at the Safeway between Redmond Way and Avondale Way in downtown Redmond. Police say there was a verbal altercation between the male shooter and another man, and both left the area after shots were fired in the store, witnesses reported. No one was injured, and Redmond police believe there is no additional threat to the public at this time. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on the reported shooting is asked to call the Redmond Police Department at 425-556-2500. The Redmond Police Department (RPD) is offering a voluntary gun buyback program on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., RPD said in a release. The event will be held at the Redmond Police Department North Lot at 8707 160th Ave. NE. 'The primary goal of the firearm exchange is to provide a safe way to dispose of unwanted firearms and get unnecessary guns off the street to help reduce gun violence, and gun-related crimes, injuries, and deaths,' Police Chief Darrell Lowe said. RPD listed the following price breakdown for payout in gift cards: $300 for AR-style rifles, AK-style rifles, and automatic rifles $200 for handguns (pistols and revolvers) $100 for muzzleloaders, antiques, shotguns, rifles (non-assault style) $0 for replicas, toy guns, BB-guns, pellet guns, airsoft guns Redmond Police advised that all guns must be unloaded with the safety switched on, in the trunk of your car, and in a gun case or box if possible. Redmond Police use drone to catch alleged shoplifter

After an alleged shoplifter was reported at a store in Redmond, police deployed a drone to follow the man as he left the shopping center, the Redmond Police Department (RPD) posted on X. The Drone as a First Responder (DFR) followed the man for more than a mile starting on Northeast 76th Street. The operator relayed his location to officers, which led to an arrest, RPD said. Drone video posted by RPD shows the man get into his car, drive from the store's parking lot and onto highway 520. Officers arrested the man without incident and said he had a criminal history of armed robbery. The Redmond Police Department launched the Drones as First Responders program in April 2024 to, 'improve response times, provide real-time aerial surveillance to patrol units on the ground before they can arrive at an incident,' RPD said on their website.

REDMOND, Wash. - A Redmond man convicted of child molestation is facing new charges after more victims recently came forward. The backstory Buckland Darrell, 45, was previously arrested three separate times for molesting multiple boys, including at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Redmond, a Thanksgiving party in King County, and other church events and gatherings. Darrell was released on bail twice before being rearrested in April 2023. In that case, three new victims came forward and reported incidences that happened between 2017 and 2021. Each of the cases involved boys under the age of 12, with the incidents occurring near or in the presence of the victim's family members. Now, Redmond police say two new victims have come forward, and Darrell is set to be arraigned on additional charges of first-degree child molestation and first-degree rape of a child. Darrell is currently serving time for his previous three convictions of first-degree child molestation. Redmond police believe there are more minor victims, and ask anyone with information to contact the Redmond Police Department at 425-556-2500.
