As part of the visit, Dr Raghu created awareness among pregnant and postpartum women about the importance of immunization. He emphasized that administering vaccines from birth up to five years of age helps protect children from several life-threatening diseases. He advised mothers to ensure that their children receive all scheduled vaccinations on time, as this significantly strengthens immunity and helps maintain overall health by preventing infections. Focusing on the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine, Dr Raghu highlighted that the first dose (Dose-1) should be given to children between 9 and 12 months of age, and the second dose (Dose-2) should be administered between 16 and 24 months.
He stated that timely MR vaccination boosts immunity in children and protects them from future infections. He also instructed the staff to diligently record all vaccinations as per the schedule for children at ages 5, 10, and 16 years. Additionally, he directed that pregnant women must be provided with two doses of the Tetanus and Diphtheria (TD) vaccine, along with iron supplements. Medical officer Dr Hemalatha, PHN Hanumanthamma, supervisor Nagamani, village secretariat health worker Elizabeth, ASHA workers, and projectionist Khaleel participated in the program.

2,200 menstrual cups distributed in Mandya: Minister
Bengaluru: Nearly 2,200 menstrual cups have been distributed in Mandya under 'Sakhi Suraksha' scheme, Rural Development Minister Priyank Kharge said on Saturday. Taking to the social media platform X, Kharge said, Sakhi Suraksha is a significant step towards upholding women's dignity. 'Using Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, a step has been taken to distribute menstrual cups to rural women to raise awareness about menstrual cup usage,' he added. According to him, these reusable menstrual cups can be used for long-term. 'These cups can also help prevent environmental damage,' he added. The project is in its first phase in Mandya, he said.'In the first phase, they were distributed to Asha workers. The Asha workers will visit households to provide information about the menstrual cups,' he added. Kharge said, in the coming days, the cups will be distributed to Anganwadi workers and helpers, female school staff, women members of the Gram Panchayat, and staff of women's cooperative societies. 'Menstruation is not impure, nor is it a cause for embarrassment. Menstruation is a speciality of nature,' said Kharge.

Sukhu govt to set up boards to combat drug menace
The Himachal Pradesh government will set up Nasha Mukti Roktham and Punarvas Board to combat the growing drug menace in the state. Chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu at Sarkhagaht on Friday said that the board, aimed at preventing drug abuse and reintegrating youth trapped in addiction, will consist of experts from various departments, including home, health, social justice and empowerment, education, youth services & sports, panchayati raj and prison, along with NGOs and social scientists. Health and family welfare minister Dr (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil said earlier this week that the government is exploring options for a women-specific facility, in addition to a potential government-run de-addiction centre in Shimla. The issue of lack of rehabilitation centres in the state had also triggered a verbal slugfest between governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said, 'There is only one Red Cross-run drug rehabilitation centre in Kullu. We have been hearing about identification of land for setting up a centre in Sirmaur but nothing is moving on ground. This shows the seriousness of the government.' In response to the growing heroin problem in the state, the chief minister also announced the launch of Anti-Chitta Volunteer Scheme. 'These young volunteers will not only help in preventing the spread of chitta but will also assist in awareness campaigns and in providing timely confidential information to the police so that strict action can be taken against drug mafias. A provision for incentive payments will also be made for these volunteers,' the CM added. The CM further said that the government has implemented PIT NDPS Act and seized property worth over ₹42 crore from drug mafias. 'The state has made chitta testing mandatory in police recruitment and to eradicate chitta (heroin) from its roots, I have directed the formation of anti-drug committees in villages and panchayats. Police will gather drug-related information from panchayat secretary, ASHA and anganwadi workers and police constables and share it with the committee. I want timely action on the reports,' he added. The previous BJP government had also constituted a Himachal Pradesh Nasha Nivaran Board for a period of two years which failed to make significant progress.

State honours panchayats for zero maternal and infant deaths
Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh National Health Mission (MP-NHM) celebrated grassroots healthcare workers and community leaders who achieved remarkable results in maternal and child healthcare during a programme on the Independence Day on Friday. Dhakoni Gram Panchayat in Ishagarh block of Ashoknagar district reported zero maternal and infant deaths for two consecutive years in a population of 8,107. This achievement resulted from coordinated efforts by Sarpanch Ramsakhi Kevat, ANM Asha Arode, and ASHA worker Indra Bai Sharma. The team achieved complete antenatal care registration and closely monitored high-risk pregnancies. All births occurred at nearby healthcare facilities, with Janani Express providing transport services, as Dhakoni's Sub Health Centre lacks delivery facilities. ANM Asha Arode, serving since March 2024, explained: "In Dhakoni Panchayat, which includes three villages with a combined population of around 2,200, we've achieved 100 percent ANC registration and zero infant deaths. High-risk pregnancies are referred to.
