Ponce ended a scoreless match when used assists from defenders Felipe Andrade and Franco Escobar to score his fifth goal this season and 10th in his two seasons in the league. Andrade's assist was his first in the rookie's ninth career appearance and Escobar's was his third this season.

Bond needed just one save to post his sixth clean sheet of the season for the Dynamo (6-9-5), who beat St. Louis City (3-11-6) for the first time in five regular-season matchups. The two clubs played to a scoreless draw in Houston last season and tied 1-1 there in 2023 — when St. Louis City won the Western Conference regular-season title as an expansion team.(backslash)
Roman Bürki finished with five saves for St. Louis City, which falls to 1-7-2 on the road.
Houston played without defender Griffin Dorsey, who was suspended for the match for an accumulation of yellow cards.
The Dynamo travel to play San Diego FC on Saturday. St. Louis City plays at Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

Nebraska-Omaha basketball player Deng Mayar drowns in a Utah reservoir
Nebraska-Omaha basketball player Deng Mayar drowned Saturday in a Utah reservoir, police said. Herriman police said Mayar died at Blackridge Reservoir after going underwater about 35 yards from shore. Mayar, 22, was a graduate student who joined the Mavericks after playing two seasons for Summit League rival North Dakota. Mayar, from Salt Lake City, started 15 games in two seasons and averaged 6.3 points and 4.0 rebounds as a senior. Nebraska-Omaha coach Chris Crutchfield said in a statement that Mayar had made 'tremendous progress' during the summer. 'Deng was a joy to be around and made our culture better,' Crutchfield said. 'We will miss him greatly.' Herriman police responded to a 911 call reporting two people in distress at the reservoir. Sa Mafutaga, 21, made it to shore and then went back into the water to try and rescue Mayar, but could not. Bystanders entered the water to aid Mafutaga, who was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital. The report said Mafutaga is expected to recover. Meyer Shank Racing extends Marcus Armstrong's contract after a strong season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Meyer Shank Racing on Monday announced a contract extension for driver Marcus Armstrong that will see the New Zealander back in the No. 66 next season. Armstrong moved from Chip Ganassi Racing to MSR this season when the two teams formed a technical alliance. In his first year in the No. 66, Armstrong has logged 10 top-10 finishes and podiumed at Iowa Speedway. It was just the second podium of his IndyCar career. With two races remaining, Armstrong is seeking to finish inside the the top-10 of the championship standings for the first time in his career. He's currently ninth. 'I'm very pleased and grateful to be back with Meyer Shank Racing and my crew for 2026,' said Armstrong. 'The professionalism and attention to detail is a benchmark throughout the field and we have certainly improved with time together which has been great. We'll look to build on our momentum and work hard to climb the points standings.' Armstrong has been a decent qualifier this year and matched his career-best starting position of third at Toronto. He earned a second-row start with a fourth-place qualifying effort to open the season in St. Petersburg. 'We're thrilled to have Marcus back for 2026,' said Mike Shank, co-owner of Meyer Shank Racing. 'He's really grown a lot this season and we're seeing that in his results as the season has gone on.
