The full moon in August 2025 might expose cracks in your relationships, astrologer warns

Yahoo3 days ago
There's a full moon on the rise and some fraught astro weather afoot, folks.
Gird your loins and guard your hearts.
The energy of August's full moon is 'inevitably confusing,' and brings serious relationship wake-up calls, according to Rachel Ruth Tate, certified astrologer at Casinos Analyzer.
When is the full moon in August 2025?
The full sturgeon moon will rise on August 9th, 2025, at 3:55 am EDT AT 16°59 of Aquarius, but we'll be feeling the effects the day before and after.
Tate notes that this full moon is approaching as Saturn, our planet of restriction, and Neptune, our planet of dreams and deception, are retrograding in the hellfires of Aries, putting the gas in gaslighting and the smoke in smokescreens.
'We're not seeing things clearly,' Tate told The Post. 'It's a time of truth versus the appearance of truth. Think misunderstandings and emotional fog. Someone could say all the right things and still not show up for you.'
This fact is underscored by the fact that Mercury is still in retrograde and approaching its 'storm date.'
Gentle it ain't, but healing it can be.
'People who are open to new information can take great advantage of this Moon. My Gemini rising friends may be in the best position to enjoy it, with the Moon happening in their 9th house of faith and learning, and the challenges coming up in their 3rd house of communication and 11th house of good fortune and friends.'
Full moon August 2025
Add to the mix that Pluto — our planet of totemic destruction, shadow work, power struggles, and transformation through trauma — is currently retrograde in Aquarius, the sign this weekend's full moon falls in.
'The Full Moon is happening in the same sign as Pluto — the keeper of hidden information and the planet with the power to make the small big and the big small. It can help us zoom in and out of the collective Aquarian lens — which community do I want to invest in, and who is investing in me?'
She notes that power dynamics, struggles and grabs will be at the forefront for everyone.
'This full moon underscores the theme of transformation, especially around our established modes of connecting or relating. If someone's been controlling, withholding, or hiding things, this moon could force a confrontation. Who is really on your team? You'll know by who actually shows up in a crisis.'
Further, the full moon in Aquarius plays host to an opposition between Saturn, Neptune and Mars — our planet of will and war, currently fighting for its life with a pained and painted smile in Libra — the sign of relationships.
Full moon in August
'We may find ourselves saying no to someone or facing the sting of rejection. There may not be an easy way out of arguments. And with Neptune involved, we are definitely blurring boundaries. Maybe this Moon will help us get some clarity on what we need to do and who we need to do it with, as Saturn is ruling the Moon but is being ruled by Mars in Libra. It's a balancing act.'
On the upswing, the full moon will form a blessed trine to Mars in Libra.
'Whatever shifts or difficulties we encounter are honestly just a part of the process of becoming. My advice? Stand firm where you need to and apologize where it's warranted. Accountability and awareness will go a long way.'
Tate assures that all the perceived bad is in service of our aforementioned becoming, forcing us to take stock and draw boundaries.
'Give what you got, but don't overextend yourself. People might ask for more than you've got, and that's okay. They can pivot. You can't be everyone's rock.'
You can't be everyone's rock, but you can be your own river, folks.
'The biggest draw to this full moon is learning the truth. Letting dynamics reveal themselves. Embracing inevitable change! Clarity and understanding are sure to follow in the next weeks, especially in relationships. This is a full moon for taking the high road and seeing who follows you there.'
Why is it called a sturgeon moon?
As per 'The Old Farmer's Almanac,' August's full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon, an homage to the prehistoric lake fish that once filled the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain.
Historically, these fish, which range in size from a man's arm to a Volkswagen Beetle, were caught most easily during the late summer.
Sturgeon moon 2025
Because humans are prone to being incorrigible trash monsters, the effects of overfishing and pollution have decimated the once-flourishing lake sturgeon population in the US.
It's apt to consider that when preparing to spawn, sturgeon species seek turbulent currents and straits littered with rugged rocks, suggesting that the purest form of regeneration is born ever and always, from the grit of conflict.
In kind, and under this full moon, I hope any rough seas you move through move your relationships toward a similarly hard-won and sweeter still point of renewal.

Your horoscope for the week ending 17th August is bringing productivity and positivity

The week ahead is intense, but in a productive and positive way. Action planet Mars in Libra harmonises with Pluto Retrograde in Aquarius on 10th August, adding dynamism and charisma to our auric fields. The following day, Mercury turns direct, ending the retrograde story that began on 18th July in Leo. Now, we have the chance to mend fences with those we've had miscommunications with over the past few weeks. The same day, Saturn Retrograde in Aries aspects Uranus in Gemini, allowing us to embrace our quirks and power. Venus and Jupiter form a conjunction in Cancer on 12th August, making it a wonderful time for love and sentimentality. Do something nostalgic, like watch a movie that reminds you of your childhood or shop at your favourite old stores in your hometown. Mercury and Mars align on 14th August, giving our words strength and stamina. Venus connects with the Nodes of Destiny on 15th August, urging us to make major decisions about love that will affect our lives for the next few months. The way you express yourself is evolving. You're finding that not having the last word is better than debating the nuances of a discussion. Even if you are right, there is certainty in knowing that. If people want to argue, you should leave them on read until they calm down. There is beauty in the unknown because it allows you to find your true essence. You have time to figure out how you want to grow and what projects suit you. Also, you don't have to sweat the mistakes because they are part of your business and life learning curve. Let's press pause on the drama! You've been rocking around the clock with the theatrics, so it's best to take a moment to unwind and decide if your cause is worth fighting for. You might wish to opt out and hit reset with those you're beefing with to start anew. No one knows more than you about the power of family. Lately, you've been giving your brood lots of attention and affection. However, old issues from your youth are resurfacing, urging you to heal the root of the issue, which could cause tears. Keep the Kleenex close for the waterworks. Finding the perfect moment to say how you feel will be challenging. Therefore, you must create a magical vibe to tell your crush or significant other that you think they're the cat's meow. A lot of love, truthfulness, and heart can bring you the ship you desire as long as you're sincere. Asserting yourself does not come easily, since you never like to rock the boat and hate to cause conflict with others. If you stay in your lane with razor-sharp focus, you can get the promotion and raise you deserve, especially after burning the midnight oil for months to attain it. This is a fantastic week to have your glow-up. You will get noticed at the office, on social media, or in your peer group, leaving you feeling seen and respected. Your insights and wisdom are in demand, allowing you to lean into your fandom amongst colleagues and friends. Go, Libra! Sometimes you get too stuck in your head overanalysing matters. You might find yourself sussing out a situation to catch someone in the act of being shady. The opposite is happening this week, you'll be surprised by their goody two-shoes persona, which will leave you speechless and questioning your investigation. Who says romance is dead? Not you. This week you're levelling up your game and proving to your boo that you are able to show off your tender side. A candlelit dinner for two under the stars or a stroll on the beach will suffice nicely to win their heart. Making amends doesn't have to feel like the end of the world. Being occasionally wrong proves that you're human. No one is perfect, so the less you hold onto that notion, the better you'll be and the more likely you can begin a deeper understanding of those you care about. It seems as though people are not on your side due to their lack of aid when it comes to defending you; however, in reality, they need a chance to get the lowdown and will then offer support. Your squad is just trying to take the best approach for you. If you don't wish to be part of the goss, stop spilling tea about others. Karma is a boomerang, and it'll soon come back at you in full force. Do yourself a favour and dip out of the group text when it gets messy. Dealing with the aftermath won't be fun.

Mercury in retrograde might be over — but here's why you're not in the clear just yet

Praise be. On August 11, 2025, Mercury, our planet of the mind and mouth and the mischief that lives between, ends its retrograde. When does Mercury retrograde end? Mercury will station direct at 3:29 am ET at 4 degrees of Leo. But it ain't time for rainbows and reckless abandon quite yet, folks. 3 After the planet stations direct, we'll continue to feel the ill effects of the slowdown for up to two weeks, a charming/jarring little epilogue known as the shadow period. Anna – After the planet stations direct, we'll continue to feel the fallout for up to two weeks, a charming/jarring little epilogue known as the shadow period. Or, if you're the whimsical type, Mercury 'retroshade.' The fastest-moving planet in our solar system, Mercury, goes retrograde three to four times a year, and when you factor in the shadow periods of the retrograde, we spend up to six months a year at the mercy of Mercury's slowdown. The planet won't clear its post-retrograde shadow until August 25th; until then, we're still under the influence of this cosmic melee. When is Mercury direct? Author and tarot reader Kerry Ward tells The Post, 'Things can still feel unsettled and choppy for up to two weeks after Mercury has turned direct. Don't rush straight back into booking big trips or moves, making deals, engaging in difficult dialogue or negotiations or upgrading your tech. Allow a bit of grace for issues to resolve themselves.' Blessedly, the post-retrograde shadow can bring clarity and finality to issues and circumstances we may have been battling during the retrograde cycle. What is Mercury retrograde? 3 Blessedly, the post-retrograde shadow can bring clarity and finality to issues and circumstances we may have been battling during the retrograde cycle. AIExplosion – 'This two-week post-retrograde period is a good time to reflect on your hardships and the response of your shadow side (no doubt activated by the frustrations you endured). It's definitely from our strained moments, impatient episodes, and setbacks that we see the repressed side of our personalities emerge. What did you (or your partner/family) notice about your behavior during this transit?' asks Ward. For post-retrograde reflection and emotional recalibration, Ward recommends her Unleash Your Shadow Self self-help workbook. Dear gods, will it get better? Luckily, there are some positive changes afoot and ahead in August, and they start today. 'On August 12, the Venus-Jupiter conjunction comes with a rare and welcome shift — a moment of clarity and confidence,' Kate Kettlekamp, resident astrologer at Gamblizard and founder of Kronos Astrology, told The Post. 'Later in the month, on August 23, the New Moon in Virgo invites a reset. Think habits, systems, and long-term goals. When Venus enters Leo on August 25, the energy shifts noticeably toward boldness in love, money, and creative choices. Risk is supported here, but only if it's backed by real intention.' When is the next Mercury retrograde? 3 The fastest-moving planet in our solar system, Mercury, goes retrograde three to four times a year. zwiebackesser – The final Mercury retrograde of the year goes down, or back as it were, in the sign of Sagittarius from November 9 to November 29. The pre-retrograde/retroshade period will extend from October 21st to December 16th. Look alive, folks! Mars in Libra Horoscope: What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

When you're aiming to amp yourself up to take on an ambitious task, expressing anger, connecting with a partner sexually or exploring whatever fires you up, you can think of Mars as the planet that's fueling your efforts. And from Wednesday, August 6 to Monday, September 22, Mars in Libra will bring a whole new, balance-seeking, beauty-loving, and, yes also passive-aggressive approach to these aspects of life. Since June 17, Mars has been in mutable earth sign Virgo, known for its attention to detail, pragmatism, and commitment to everyday routine and wellness. In turn, we've been apt to move through passionate feelings in a more cerebral, grounded way over the past couple of months while potentially overthinking, prioritizing organization, and putting our noses to the grindstone to be of service to others. But once Mars enters cardinal air sign on August 6 at 7:23 p.m. ET/4:23 p.m. PT, prepare for the desire to keep the peace at all costs even if you're steaming on the inside and a penchant for funneling your energy toward bringing more beauty and balance into the world. Here, all you need to know in order to make the most of Mars' 2025 trip through Libra. What does Mars in Libra mean? When Mars, the planet of action and energy, moves through Libra, the air sign symbolized by the Scales, it's considered to be in detriment — aka frustrated and challenged to express itself the way it would ideally like to. That's because Libra is the sign that sits opposite where Mars is at home, in fiery Aries, and the Scales' focus on harmony, beauty, relationships and romance runs counter to what Mars is all about, which is aggression, conflict, anger and unbridled passion. It is literally the planet named for the god of war. When considering how Mars in Libra will color how you take action, experience energy and move through the world to achieve your goals and fulfill your desires, it can help to think about Libra's ruling planet: Venus, which oversees romance, pleasure, values and relationships. Venus' influence causes Libra to want nothing more than to avoid conflict at all costs, to utilize diplomacy and to push for tranquility and balance. The air sign is happiest when it can take all sides of any issue into consideration. And associated with the Seventh House of Partnership, Libra also thrives when pairing up with a significant other, loved one or dear friend. That said, when Mars is in Libra, you may find you or others may be more resistant to sharing what's getting under your skin, intent to keep the peace versus rock the boat. Brushing any emotion under the rug is often ineffective, of course, so this tendency to steer clear of fiery self-expression could result in passive-aggressive behavior. We'll also feel more compelled to play referee or judge and hear all sides of any issue, striving to prize balance and objectivity, justice and fairness above anything else. Mars also affects how we work and what we're more inclined to work on, so while it's in Libra, you could be motivated to step up your beauty routine, to pour your energy into a creative project, to ensure you're making time for more romance with your partner, to be more of a social butterfly or to plan a must-attend social event. The last time Mars was in Libra, the seventh sign of the zodiac, was from August 27 to October 12, 2023, so think back to that period for a sense of what themes, narratives, lessons and experiences might be on the docket once again. What can you expect during Mars' 2025 trip through Libra Although Mars moves through Libra approximately every two years, all the planets move at different rates through the zodiac, so the action-oriented planet's link-ups with other celestial bodies change annually. A few key moments: On Sunday, August 10, right on the heels of the full moon, Mars will form a harmonizing angle to transformative Pluto in Aquarius, offering a surge of empowering, go-getter energy. You could make a positive impression on higher-ups or make a play for more authority or responsibility by harnessing charm, diplomacy and other key social skills. Then, prepare for more impulsivity and ambition on Thursday, September 4, when Mars squares off against Jupiter in Cancer. You could feel like you're capable of taking on much more than you might actually be up for, so consider aiming for a measured game plan. And while it may be an industrious Monday, September 15 is set up for heartfelt, romantic experiences and sexy sparks flying, because Mars will form a friendly sextile to romantic Venus in charismatic fire sign Leo, amplifying confidence and chemistry in relationships. It also bears noting that once Mars moves through Libra, it'll oppose both Neptune, the planet of illusion, and Saturn, the planet of limitations, in Aries, which could lead to frustration, disappointment, confusion and resentment. Grappling with these emotions in a Mars-fueled way — e.g., moving your body, tapping into your inner fire and acknowledging your desires, taking decisive action — is your best bet. Here, how Mars in Libra 2025 will affect you based on your sign. (Be sure to read both your sun and your rising sign if you know it. If you don't, you can find it in your birth chart or by using this CafeAstrology calculator.) Aries Your ruler, go-getter Mars, is now in your partnership sector, which is bound to motivate you to move the ball forward on ambitions you share with a dear friend, loved one or significant other. At the same time, given its fiery nature, your ruling planet will amplify the potential for conflict. You could find debating and butting heads fun or stimulating, but with Mars opposing taskmaster Saturn in your sign, you'll do well to commit to working through ongoing conflicts that are taking a toll on your one-on-one bonds. Doing so can help you lay a healthy, fulfilling new groundwork for these relationships. Click through for more on Aries. But in general, this transit will feel lively, fun and gratifying, especially because Mars forms positive sextiles to both Mercury and Venus in your sign and self-image zone around August 14-18 and September 15 respectively. Share your thoughts, dreams and big picture ideas with friends and colleagues, which will bolster your confidence and sense of self. Click through for more on Leo. Virgo With Mars leaving your sign for your money zone, you'll have more energy at your disposal to put your nose to the grindstone on income-bolstering endeavors. You're eager to build momentum on your current job or to even get cozy with your inner entrepreneur to launch a side hustle or entirely new enterprise. You could also be more apt to experience conflict in this realm of your life, whether you're fighting with a colleague over who has dibs on a particular account or struggling to align with a higher-up's values or goals. Around August 10, the full moon and Mars' connection to Pluto in your wellness zone allows you to focus on the fights that, if won, will lead to feeling truly empowered within your everyday routine. At the same time, Mars is the planet of conflict, after all, so don't be surprised if you experience some rockiness with friends or coworkers, perhaps as a result of you preferring to lead the charge versus serve as a team player.
