Meet Indian woman, started business with Rs 500, now runs company worth Rs..., sons are billionaires, her name is..., sons are...
The Kamath brothers– Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath– have earned a name for themselves in India's entrepreneurial space, building a successful business which made them billionaires at a young age. Interestingly, Nithin and Nikhil seem to have inherited the entrepreneur gene from their mother, Revathi Kamath, a successful businesswoman who started her flower business with just Rs 500. Who is Revathi Kamath?
Revathi Kamath is the mother of Zerodha co-founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath, but beyond the business accolades of her sons, she has carved a unique niche for herself as an entrepreneur, environmentalist and an artiste. Before her sons' success, Revathi had already built a successful event management company, Calyx, which began as a humble flower business she started with just Rs 500.
Today, CALYX Landscaping & Organic Farming is a major event company that serves high-end clients across the country.
Beyond her business success, Revathi Kamath is an ardent environmentalist and uses her business earnings to fund green initiatives which she she believes in. 'I'm not chasing profits. Half of what I make goes into environmental work,' she says. A true environmentalist
In a heartfelt speech at Sinhasi Social Impact Initiative seminar on Wetlands Preservation, Revathi Kamath stressed the need for reviving vanishing green spaces in India.
Kamath noted that while government policies do matter, its the people who can really make a difference by doing their part in saving the environment. 'Our wetlands are vanishing, and people barely notice. It's time we all got involved,' she said.
She also credited her sons for their generosity, kindness, responsibility, and giving back to the society– values she instilled in them during their formative years. 'They've always had giving hearts. I raised them to believe that making a difference matters more than making a profit,' she said.
Kamath revealed that her older son, Nithin Kamath, encourages her to fund her charitable work with her own resources, while her younger child, Nikhil Kamath, supports her philanthropic ventures by quietly sending her funds, without ever asking for anything in return.
Beyond business and environment, Revathi Kamath finds solace in music, and is a proficient veena player in her own right.

‘Current smartphones and computers not ideal for future of AI': OpenAI CEO Sam Altman explains why
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has shared a perspective on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasising that the current form factors of smartphones and computers are ill-suited for the true potential of AI. In an episode of Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath's popular 'People by WTF' podcast, Altman highlighted the need for new, ambiently aware hardware that can embody the 'AI companion' of science fiction dreams. During the conversation, Altman said that while people have long relied on devices that are either 'on or off,' the nature of advanced AI demands a continuous, contextual presence. 'You really want AI to have as much context as possible, do stuff for you, and be proactive,' Altman stated, underscoring a significant shift from traditional human-computer interaction. Altman says smartphones are not ever-present companions He explained that a phone, being either in your pocket or hand, doesn't align with the desire for an AI that acts as a companion throughout the day, capable of intelligent alerts, proactive assistance, and timely reminders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Sam Altman on what OpenAI is designing with ex-Apple designer Jony Ive This discussion comes amidst widespread speculation about OpenAI's foray into hardware, particularly following its collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Altman remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his work with Ive, however he said that the duo aims to 'try multiple products' to make AI omnipresent at all times. 'The world will experiment with a lot of those [new form factors],' he said, mentioning possibilities like glasses, wearables, and small table-top devices. Altman stressed that the core idea is to build "ambiently aware physical hardware" that can host an AI companion. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Review: Changing The Game AI Masterclass for Students. ‘India is most enthusiastic to transform with AI': Sam Altman on Nikhil Kamath's podcast; urges 25-year-olds to…
OpenAI chief Sam Altman has recently said that Artificial Intelligence has completely reshaped what young professionals can achieve on their own. He was speaking at People by WTF podcast hosted by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath. When Kamath asked Altman to picture the life of a 25-year-old in Mumbai or Bengaluru, the OpenAI CEO stated the youths of this age group was blessed with more opportunities than any generation as they are equipped with powerful tools like AI and was hence a once-in-history opportunity. 'I think this is probably the most exciting time to be starting out one's career, maybe ever,' he said. Altman argued that tasks that once required years of expertise or entire teams, coding, marketing, legal review, customer service, can now be tackled with AI acting as a collaborator. 'You could use GPT-5 to help you write the software for a product, handle customer support, draft marketing plans, even review legal documents,' he explained. He praised India's entrepreneurial drive and eagerness to embrace AI tools, noting that feedback from Indian users has already influenced OpenAI's work. Comparing this moment to the personal-computer boom of his youth, Altman said the difference today is scale, 'People are now limited only by the quality and creativity of their ideas.' In the show, Altman speaks about wide-ranging topics ranging from Artificial Intelligence to the future of society, and even to personal reflections on marriage and parenthood. Altman also reflected on how AI could reshape economics and society. He predicted a future where negative interest rates, universal basic income, and new forms of wealth distribution, like sovereign wealth funds or experimental currencies, become part of everyday life. On a personal note, he described becoming a parent as 'the coolest, most amazing, most emotionally overwhelming experience' of his life. Looking ahead, he expressed hope that as AI frees up time and resources, family and community will return to the center of people's lives. 'It's a problem for society that those things have been in retreat,' he said.

Zerodha Unveils WhatsApp-Based Kite Backup For Emergency Trading: How To Use It
Zerodha launched Kite Backup, a WhatsApp-based system for traders to manage positions if Kite's main platforms fail. Zerodha WhatsApp-Based Kite Backup: India's largest stockbroker Zerodha has launched Kite Backup, a WhatsApp-based emergency system that allows traders to square off open positions and cancel pending orders if its primary platforms – Kite web and mobile – ever go down during market hours. Trading platforms are highly complex, with multiple systems linked to exchanges, data centres, and cloud providers. Despite several layers of redundancy, a rare technical glitch at any point can disrupt trading. To provide an additional safety net, Zerodha has created this fully independent backup channel. Unlike the regular Kite systems that run on Amazon AWS and are protected by Cloudflare, the new WhatsApp-based setup is hosted on Microsoft Azure and connects directly to multiple order management systems (OMS) in physical data centres. It does not rely on Kite's primary infrastructure, ensuring that even if AWS or Cloudflare face outages, users can still exit positions. Limitations The Kite Backup system over WhatsApp is designed to be a last resort in case all primary trading platforms become unavailable. It is NOT designed to be a trading or investment platform. The WhatsApp Flow offers only a rudimentary interface that permits very few interactions. You can view holdings, margins, open orders and positions. Open orders and positions can be squared off. New orders or any other advanced features are not available. The backup system offers redundancy over Kite's trading systems and infrastructure, such as Amazon AWS and Cloudflare, which Kite depends on. However, it does not offer redundancy over the core OMS (Order Management Systems) located in physical data centres. OMS systems have different redundancy measures. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
