Joy Reid claims MSNBC fired her without warning, speculates her coverage of Trump, Gaza led to ouster
During her appearance on 'The Breakfast Club,' Reid was asked what was behind her firing from MSNBC in February, insisting it wasn't a ratings issue despite the fact that the network's viewership took a huge dive after the 2024 election.
'And we had actually just had a ratings meeting, like, two weeks before I was fired, where they were like, 'You guys are actually losing – you guys lost less than, you know, your competitors, and you're actually doing fine,'' Reid said.
'So ratings were fine. We were doing fine. And you know, the ratings have not gotten better since I left.'
Reid then pointed to a report about her being on the chopping block that surfaced the Friday before she was fired, which she at first thought was just a 'rumor,' but her producers began 'freaking out' over what was alleged.
'We hadn't heard anything,' Reid said.
'Nobody had called me. Nobody had said, 'You did something wrong, you're in trouble, you're on probation.' I had gotten nothing. Then I get a text message early the next morning saying, 'Can you talk at noon?' And I was fired immediately. There was no warning. And I asked, 'Well, what, you know, what's the [issue]?' Nothing. They were just like, 'Oh, we just want to make some changes.' They never said why. So I've had to live in the rumor mill with everybody else.'
Ex-MSNBC host Joy Reid claims her coverage of President Donald Trump and the Israel-Hamas war led her to being fired.
MSNBC
The former 'ReidOut' host went on to claim there were 'two topics' that had made MSNBC management 'uncomfortable.'
'One of them is Trump, because Trump is suing everybody,' Reid said.
'I mean, he's literally threatening people to the point where '60 Minutes' is shook, where ABC News is shook. You know, he's verbally threatened Comcast by name, named [Comcast CEO] Brian Roberts by name, and all of these are businesses that want to do business that need the FCC approval. They actually have to have the federal government's approval to do mergers, acquisitions… He can pull your license… so it's like everybody is trying to navigate this really deranged man. So I think they're activating out of a sense of 'we don't want to poke the bear too much.''
Reid made an appearance on 'The Breakfast Club,' and claims ratings were not a factor in her show being cancelled.

'I think the other piece is Gaza,' she continued.
'And you just can't get away from the fact that talking about Gaza in a way that humanizes Palestinians is not the usual way that cable news operates, or that any news in this country operates for whatever reason, that topic makes people uncomfortable.'
MSNBC did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
Reid remained defiant following her ousting, saying at the time that she would not apologize for going 'hard' on issues like Black Lives Matter, illegal immigrants, the 1619 Project and Gaza, as well as her opposition to Trump.
'I am not sorry I stood up for those things because those things are of God,' Reid said in February.
'And you know, I'm a church girl, too, and those are the things that I was taught were of God. So I'm not sorry. I'm just proud of my show.'

Will the Democrats Go Centrist in the 2028 Election?
New York A pair of safe predictions: The winner of the 2028 Republican presidential nomination will have to negotiate the protean wishes of Donald Trump. And the winner of the Democratic contest will have to confront the party's attraction to socialism and an array of factions that would rather see Democrats lose than compromise: the climate lobby, advocates of open borders and transgenderism, and, above all, the anti-Israel left.

Senate Democrat: Trump summit with Putin signals ‘all is forgiven'
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said the Friday summit between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin signals 'all is forgiven.' 'He is standing with the most powerful person in the world, and it is a sign from Donald Trump, essentially, that all is forgiven,' Murphy said during an appearance on MSNBC's 'Morning Joe. 'And so, this is a big moment for Putin, because he essentially is being legitimized in the eyes of the United States and in the eyes of the world,' he added. The senator said there wasn't going to be 'any breakthrough' because Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is not present for peace talks. 'We know there's not going to be any major peace deal here, largely because one of the parties to the war isn't at the table,' he said. 'You can't sign a peace agreement if Zelensky isn't there. And so, there's not going to be any breakthrough,' he added. Many have doubted Putin's intentions at the summit, suggesting the Russian leader has the upper hand and will use face time with Trump to occupy more of Ukraine. Talks between the two commenced at 3:30 p.m. EDT after a press conference where Trump and Putin were seated in front of a backdrop that read 'Pursuing Peace.' Before the meeting, the president wrote 'HIGH STAKES' in a Truth Social post. Murphy deemed the meetup a 'photo op.' 'My worry is that while the photo op in and of itself essentially legitimizes war crimes, telegraphs to other autocrats or evil men around the world that they can get away with murdering civilians and still get a photo op with the president of the United States, it could get worse,' he told MSNBC. 'Because if there is no agreement, if Putin thumbs his nose at Trump, and then Trump does not follow through with more weapons for Ukraine or with any sanctions, then it's essentially the final green light to Putin that he is going to be able to prosecute this war without reaction from the United States.'

Representative Katherine Clark calls Israel-Hamas war in Gaza ‘genocide'

Clark made the comments in a discussion hosted by Bridget Moix, the organization's secretary general, at the Friends Meeting at Cambridge Meetinghouse. Advertisement Clark was responding to protestors at the event in her district, said Joy Lee, a spokesperson for her office, who denied that the comment amounted to a new position on the war. 'The Israeli and Palestinian people deserve security and peace. It can only be achieved through a permanent cease-fire, the immediate return of the remaining hostages, and a surge of humanitarian aid to Gaza,' Lee said. 'It should not be controversial to say that Israeli children did not deserve to be kidnapped and murdered by Hamas, nor should it be controversial to say that Palestinian children, who bear no responsibility for Hamas's atrocities, do not deserve to be killed by war or starvation. Advertisement But only a handful of congressional Democrats, and none in top leadership roles, have called the Gaza war a genocide despite mounting pressure from progressive activists as the situation there deteriorates. The death toll in the war, which began after the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, The UN defines genocide as 'acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group' and there is a genocide case filed by South Africa against Israel pending at the International Court of Justice. Israel has denied it is committing genocide, arguing that it is in a war with Hamas provoked by the terrorist group's 2023 attack, in which about 1,200 people, mostly civilians, were killed and 250 people taken hostage. The term genocide weighs heavily over Israel's history because of the Holocaust, a genocide in which Nazi Germany murdered six million Jews during World War II. Jim Puzzanghera can be reached at
