
SSEF promotes waqf project ‘Neighbours of the Prophet'
SHARJAH (WAM) The Sharjah Social Empowerment Foundation (SSEF) recently conducted awareness visits to several government entities across Sharjah to promote the waqf project 'Neighbours of the Prophet' and strengthen community partnerships.These visits aimed to highlight the waqf initiative, which focuses on supporting and empowering orphans while ensuring sustainable charitable impact.The tours included fruitful meetings with officials and staff, where the project's goals were presented, its role in reviving the waqf tradition was emphasised, and its contribution to the foundation's broader empowerment and care programmes for beneficiaries was outlined.Director-General of the SSEF, Mona bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, said, 'We are pleased with the positive response from the entities that welcomed the project 'Neighbours of the Prophet'. We believe such engagement reflects the collective commitment needed to build strategic partnerships supporting our social mission. This project is more than just a charitable endowment; it is an extension of prophetic values in caring for fatherless children.''Through it, we seek to provide sustainable support sources that guarantee a dignified life and equal opportunities for our beneficiaries. The tour is part of a wider promotional and awareness campaign to introduce the community to the waqf project and invite individuals and organisations to contribute, recognising its profound impact on empowering young people and shaping their future.'Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs, Eng. Omar Khalfan Al Shamsi, underlined the importance of supporting community initiatives and praised the waqf project launched by the foundation. Al Shamsi explained that the project reflects a comprehensive developmental waqf vision consistent with Sharjah's aspirations for sustainable charity. It reinforces the role of waqf as an effective tool to support vulnerable groups.Director of the Department of Municipal Affairs, Sheikh Engineer Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, expressed his appreciation for the project and reaffirmed the department's full and ongoing support for the foundation's noble mission towards orphans, contributing to building a more stable and empowered future for them.Assistant Secretary-General of the Sharjah Media Council, Hessa Abdullah Al Hammadi, affirmed that hosting the project reflects the council's ongoing commitment to supporting community initiatives with sustainable impact. The project's name draws inspiration from the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) saying, 'I and the one who sponsors an orphan will be in Paradise like this,' illustrating closeness to the Prophet through sponsoring orphans and meeting their needs.

UAE brings hope to Gaza, eases siege on food, water
30 July 2025 10:34 ABU DHABI (WAM) The United Arab Emirates continues its extensive efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, who have endured severe hunger and thirst for over a year and a UAE has been delivering large-scale food aid to the enclave by land, air and sea, while also launching sustainable initiatives such as providing automatic bakeries and setting up field kitchens, complemented by several projects aimed at securing access to clean drinking water for efforts come amid a dramatic deterioration of the food and water crisis in Gaza. Palestinian medical sources reported two days ago that 147 people, including 88 children, have died from malnutrition. Recent data from the United Nations World Food Programme and UNICEF showed that more than one in three people in Gaza — 39 per cent — are going days without food. Over 500,000 people, nearly a quarter of Gaza's population, are experiencing famine-like conditions, while the rest face emergency levels of the dire situation on the ground, the tragedy would have been even more catastrophic without the UAE's continued support since the launch of 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3'. According to UN reports, Emirati aid has accounted for 44 per cent of all international assistance delivered to Gaza to the food relief front, the UAE has successfully delivered tens of thousands of tonnes of food supplies to the people of Gaza through land convoys, airdrops under the 'Birds of Goodness' operation, and maritime shipments. The most recent was the Khalifa aid ship, which carried a total of 7,166 tonnes, including 4,372 tonnes of counter the severe bread shortage that emerged early in the conflict, the UAE sent automatic bakeries into Gaza in February 2024. It also supplied flour and other essentials to support the daily operation of over 21 field UAE also helped operate field kitchens and more than 50 charitable soup kitchens that serve hot meals daily to affected families in the last Ramadan, Emirates Red Crescent carried out an iftar campaign in Gaza that provided 13 million meals, supported 44 soup kitchens which benefited over 2 million people, and supplied 17 bakeries that served 3.12 million parallel, the UAE moved swiftly to confront the looming water crisis threatening the lives of over 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, especially after widespread damage to pumping stations and distribution networks due to the days of launching Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, the UAE established six desalination plants with a total capacity of 2 million gallons of water per day, serving over 600,000 people in July 15, the UAE announced the launch of a humanitarian project under Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 to supply desalinated water from Egypt to southern Gaza through a newly constructed transmission line, the largest of its kind. This emergency intervention aims to address the region's worsening water project includes a 315mm-wide, 6.7-kilometre-long pipeline linking the UAE-built desalination plant in Egypt to the displacement zone between Khan Younis and Rafah. It aims to provide about 600,000 residents with 15 litres of desalinated water per person each day, especially in light of damage to more than 80 per cent of Gaza's water facilities. Additionally, the UAE has launched several initiatives to drill and rehabilitate potable water wells, rehabilitate sewage networks in affected areas, and deliver dozens of tanker trucks carrying fresh water into the enclave.

38 Emirati humanitarian aid trucks enter Gaza
A convoy of Emirati humanitarian aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip on Monday through the Rafah border crossing, as part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to support and provide relief to the Palestinian people under the "Operation Chivalrous Knight 3' humanitarian mission. The convoy consisted of 38 trucks, including 18 loaded with food supplies, medical aid, and infant formula, and 20 trucks carrying pipes, tanks, and equipment to support the operation of a new water pipeline. This pipeline will stretch approximately 7 kilometres, connecting the UAE-established desalination plant in Egypt to the displacement zones between the Palestinian cities of Rafah and Khan Younis, with a production capacity of 2 million gallons per day. An earlier convoy of 25 trucks had entered yesterday, carrying water pipes and essential equipment for the pipeline. This brings the total number of trucks transporting materials for the water infrastructure project to 45, with all necessary components now delivered and preparations underway for the project's implementation. The UAE resumed its "Birds of Goodness" airdrop missions yesterday, alongside the continued land-based aid deliveries via the Rafah border crossing. Two Jordanian and one Emirati plane dropped 25 tonnes of humanitarian aid over the Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Jordanian army said in a statement. "The Jordanian Armed Forces on Sunday carried out three air drops on the Gaza Strip carrying humanitarian and food aid, one of which was with the United Arab Emirates," the statement said, adding that they were carrying 25 tonnes of aid. 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3'' has announced the resumption of the "Birds of Goodness" airdrop missions, with the 54th humanitarian and relief airdrop over the Gaza Strip. The mission, carried out in cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, comes as part of the UAE's ongoing efforts to support civilians in isolated areas of the Strip that are inaccessible by land. Since the launch of the "Birds of Goodness" initiative, a total of approximately 3,725 tonnes of food and relief supplies have been airdropped into Gaza using 193 aircraft. These supplies included essential food items and vital relief materials to meet the urgent needs of families affected by the dire and catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Strip.
