The Jonas Brothers reflect on creepy questions about their sex life aged 14

Metro25-07-2025
Joe Jonas has opened up about the uncomfortable questions the Jonas Brothers were asked during their purity ring-wearing youth.
In the noughties, the whiter than white band proudly wore purity rings and were open about their Christian roots, with their father, Kevin Jonas Sr, working as a senior pastor at Wyckoff Assembly of God.
When the group was first signed by Disney in 2005, they were still touting their rings and maintaining their squeaky clean image.
Despite being just teenagers, the rings invited curiosity from reporters, with Joe admitting that the questions about their sex life were frequent – and incredibly uncomfortable.
'Famously, we were known for like purity rings, which were something in the community of the church where that was like what everybody else in our age were doing around 10, 11 years old, like, 'we're going to wait for the right person',' said Joe while appearing on Penn Badgley's Podcrushed podcast.
'One person on an interview when you're 15, 16 [years old] would ask you about it, and you're like: 'I don't want to talk about this,' and then they're like: 'Well, I'm going to write that you guys are in a cult'. And you're like 'I guess we'll talk about it.''
He added that the reporters even asked the stars about their faith and other big questions that, as teens, they were ill-equipped to answer.
'Whether it was sex, or it was even religion or Christianity, [they'd be] questioning things like questioning if I believe in God, what is God? Is there even a God? And it's on the record.
'And you're like, uh … and so you felt the pressure, I can definitely speak for all three of us here. [We] felt the pressure of being like: 'Well, we have to live these lives because we kind of said it in a paper once. And it's in print, so you gotta do it forever'. So it would be scary and freak it out until we were like f**k this, or more likely 'frick this'.'
Nick added that thankfully those questions aren't directed at young stars to day: 'It would be so outside of the realms of possibility to ask at the time a 14-year-old about their sex life.'
This isn't the first time that the brothers have spoken about the difficult time in their band's history.
In a Reddit Ask Me Anything forum in March 2016, Nick said that he found it 'very tough' to have his name attached to the purity story.
'I've got a lot of perspective and real care about sex from those days, and specifically because people were watching us, because it was such a strange thing to a lot of people to wear these purity rings, especially as young men in a pop boy band.
'But I think when I'm looking back on it, although it was challenging to live with that, to be seen and have that attached to our name was very tough. More Trending
'I think it was a good thing. It gave me a really good perspective, to whereas now my main thing is about being OK with who I am as a man and the choices I've made, and I think everyone should have a good and solid conversation with either their parents or loved ones about sex and about what they want to do with their life, because it shouldn't be taboo.
'It's a big part of who we are and what makes us human, and if we can't address these things head on, then I think that it can really be challenging.'
Nick also told The Guardian in 2019: 'It was very tough to digest it in real time, trying to understand what it was going to mean to me, and what I wanted my choices to be, while having the media speaking about a 13-year-old's sex life.
'I don't know if it would fly in this day and age. Very strange.'

Has Low Life been renewed for Season 2? Here's what we know:

Renewed Or Cancelled? Low Life is the latest thriller K-drama on Disney+, blending drama, mystery and thrills together into a deliciously tasty cocktail of ideas. If you've been following this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here's what we know: What is Low Life about? Low Life is set in the 1970's, where an uncle, Oh Gwan-seok, takes his nephew Hee-dong under his wing and leads him into the criminal world. Gwan-seok will do anything for money, but one request changes everything. He's tasked with salvaging treasure from a sunken ship off the waters of Shinan, in the South Jeolla Province. Oh Gwan-seok senses an opportunity to make a fortune, but rumours and gossip about the ship attracts all sorts of people to the area… We have ongoing coverage of Low Life across the site including recaps for the season. You can check those out HERE! Has Low Life been renewed for season 2? At the time of writing, Disney hasn't renewed Low Life for a Season 2. Generally Disney would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Low Life has had a positive but somewhat subdued reaction from audiences and critics alike, with many pointing out the interesting storyline and thrills along the way. Despite the positive word of mouth, it's extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Low Life will not be renewed for a second season. We'll be sure to update this section with more details as they become available. What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it's rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed. Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Low Life will, but you never know! We'll be sure to update this section when we know more. Would you like to see Low Life return for a second season? Or do you think the story has run its course? Brad Pitt's mum dies aged 84 as actor's niece pays tribute to sweet 'grammy'

"She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things." Brad Pitt's mother, Jane Etta Pitt has died aged 84. The sad news was announced by the Hollywood star's niece, Sydney Pitt, on social media as she shared a heartbreaking post in honour of her late grandmother on Wednesday. ‌ Sydney, daughter of the World War Z actor's brother Doug, said her sweet "grammy" could "keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat" in an emotional Instagram post. ‌ Sharing a series of snaps of the former school counsellor throughout the years, Sydney wrote: "My sweet Grammy, Jane Etta, we were not ready for you to go yet but knowing you are finally free to sing, dance, and paint again makes it a tad easier. ‌ "If you knew Grammy, you knew she had the biggest heart. She cared deeply for everyone and everything, no questions asked. She taught me how to paint, how to be strong, how to lead with kindness, to love Jesus through everything, and to find joy in the smallest things. "She made up the silliest games just to make us laugh, and she believed in fairness, in putting others first, and doing good simply because it was the right thing to do. ‌ "She could keep up with all 14 of us grandkids without missing a beat. There was no limit to the love she gave, and everyone who met her felt it. "I don't know how we move forward without her. But I know she's still here in every brushstroke, every kind gesture, every hummingbird. She was love in its purest form. "We were truly blessed to have her to love on growing up and I know she lives on through each of us." ‌ Jane Etta raised Brad and his two siblings in Shawnee, Oklahoma and Springfield, Missouri alongside her husband William Alvin, who was the proprietor of a trucking company. The pair had Brad just one year after they married in 1962. ‌ The 84-year-old was a dedicated Christian who taught their children Southern Baptist traditions, the Sun reports. Brad, 61, brought his mum and dad along to several red carpet appearances throughout the years. ‌ In 2012, she and her husband joined Brad and his then-wife, Angelina Jolie, for an appearance at the Oscars. The Hollywood star is known to be close to his parents and attributes much of his acting success to his parents, saying he was always inspired by his father to provide them with a better life. When Pitt was just weeks away from graduating from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism, he abruptly dropped out and moved to Hollywood to pursue his dreams. He said he followed advice from his father, who taught him to always shoot for the stars.
