Standard Chartered Bank Signs Partnership With Digital Asset Broker FalconX

Business Mayor15-05-2025

Digital asset broker FalconX has announced a strategic partnership with British multinational bank Standard Chartered to enhance services for institutional clients.
In the first phase of the partnership, Standard Chartered will offer a range of banking and foreign exchange (FX) services to FalconX, helping to improve the platform's ability to handle cross-border payments. Over time, this partnership will expand into other offerings and mutual opportunities, the company stated.
By integrating Standard Chartered's banking infrastructure, FalconX will now have access to more currency pairs, making cross-border transactions faster and more reliable for clients.
'We are pleased to partner with Standard Chartered, one of the most forward-thinking global banks in digital asset adoption' said Matt Long, General Manager for APAC & Middle East at FalconX. 'At FalconX, we work with some of the world's largest institutions in the digital asset space, and this partnership will allow us to provide even better banking and FX solutions to clients who need to operate in the crypto world.'
The partnership comes soon after recent comments from Geoffrey Kendrick, Head of Digital Assets Research at Standard Chartered, who apologized for his earlier Bitcoin price target of $120,000. Kendrick now believes Bitcoin could surpass his initial forecast due to the growing institutional demand. He highlighted $5.3 billion in recent inflows to U.S. Bitcoin ETFs, a sign of increasing interest from large investors. Kendrick now expects Bitcoin to reach up to $200,000 by the end of the year.
'Our partnership with FalconX shows our commitment to advancing the digital asset ecosystem,' said Luke Boland, Head of Fintech at Standard Chartered. 'We're proud to provide the banking infrastructure that helps firms like FalconX offer world-class trading and financing solutions to institutional clients.'

Air India Crash: Former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, 52 British nationals among passengers on board AI171

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on June 12, 2025, 15:23 IST A tragic new layer has emerged in the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash that occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, 2025. According to passenger manifest reports, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among those on board the ill-fated flight AI171, which was en route to London Gatwick. TV9 Gujarati first reported Rupani's name appearing in the official passenger list, raising grave concerns about his safety. However, no official confirmation has been issued yet regarding his status. In another critical development, sources have confirmed that 52 British nationals were also on board the aircraft. The flight was carrying 242 individuals in total, including two pilots and ten cabin crew members. The aircraft gave a MAYDAY signal shortly after takeoff at 1:39 PM IST before crashing outside the airport perimeter in the Meghani Nagar locality. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that the aircraft was under the command of Captain Sumeet Sabharwal, a veteran pilot with over 8,200 flying hours, assisted by First Officer Clive Kundar, who had 1,100 hours of experience. The crash has prompted an immediate suspension of operations at Ahmedabad Airport. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu to rush to the site and coordinate emergency responses. With black smoke engulfing the crash site and rescue operations ongoing, authorities are yet to confirm the total number of survivors. The passenger list, now circulating in media circles, is under official verification. Further updates are expected from Air India and the Ministry of Civil Aviation as investigations continue. Bitcoin at $200K by Year-End is Now Firmly in Play, Analyst Says After Muted U.S. Inflation Data

Wednesday's softer-than-expected U.S. inflation has likely set the stage for accelerated gains in bitcoin BTC, potentially to $200,000 by the end of the year, according to Matt Mena, crypto research strategist at 21Shares. "If BTC breaks out of the $105K-$110K range with conviction, we could see a sharp move to $120K and, more importantly, reach our year-end price target of $138.5K by the end of the summer," Mena told CoinDesk in an email. "Today's CPI print may serve as a bullish catalyst for Bitcoin - and it may be the unlock that brings this target forward by several months. If momentum continues building, a $200K Bitcoin by year-end is now firmly in play," Mena added. 21Shares is one of the world's first and largest issuers of crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs), The report from the Labor Department released Wednesday showed that the cost of living, measured by the consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.1% last month after increasing 0.2% in April. Economists surveyed by Reuters had forecast a 0.2% increase. Notably, the CPI for durable goods, most of which are imported or manufactured with imported content, decreased by a seasonally adjusted 0.1% month-to-month (-1.3% annualized), indicating that President Donald Trump's tariffs have not yet been fully passed through to the final consumer. The annualized CPI advanced 2.4%, with core inflation matching the pace of April at 2.8%. "This continued trend of cooling inflation strengthens the case for potential policy easing later this year. With the Fed's June meeting approaching, the focus now shifts to how soon policymakers may respond to cooling inflation and shifting macro clarity," Mena said in an email to CoinDesk. The CPI report prompted traders to price in 47 basis points of Fed easing, equivalent to roughly two 25 basis point rate cuts, this year, compared to 42 basis points early this week. Further, traders priced fully priced the rate cut for October, with the September probability hovering above 70%. Mena explained that the CPI tailwind comes on the heels of several bullish catalysts, such as sovereign and institutional adoption and the impending stablecoin regulation. "As macro clarity improves, we should see Bitcoin flows accelerate - driven by renewed institutional confidence, increased activity from Bitcoin treasuries, and the continued rollout of state-level Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) programs. These dynamics could supercharge ETF inflows and reinforce Bitcoin's evolving role in global portfolios. Bitcoin is built for this environment," Mena noted. BTC changed hands at $108,440 at press time, according to CoinDesk data.

Bitcoin price dips as markets cool after US-China tariff talks

Bitcoin's (BTC-USD) rally faltered on Thursday as financial markets dipped, with investors reacting coolly to US-China tariff talks that US president Donald Trump had touted as a significant breakthrough. Bitcoin surged 10% from around $100,000 (£73,826) to $110,000 earlier this week amid optimism surrounding the ongoing trade negotiations. However, the price has since declined by about 2%, to trade at $107,666, mirroring the cautious mood in stock markets after details of the deal emerged. The market initially cheered the news of a rare-earths agreement announced midweek. But the muted response that followed Trump's declaration that the deal was "done" suggested investors weren't convinced of its broader economic impact. Indeed, US stock futures reflected this caution. As of Thursday morning in New York, Dow futures (YM=F) were down 0.29%, S&P 500 futures (ES=F) dropped 0.27%, and Nasdaq futures (NQ=F) slipped by 0.29%. Bitcoin followed suit with most major digital assets mirroring the pattern. "However, under the surface, volatility appears to be brewing across both the on-chain and options market.' Meanwhile, Trump on Wednesday hailed the deal as a triumph. 'We made a great deal with China. We're very happy with it,' Trump told reporters before a performance at Washington's Kennedy Centre on Wednesday evening. 'We have everything we need, and we're going to do very well with it. And hopefully they are too.' The agreement reportedly includes China removing export restrictions on rare earth minerals and the US reopening access for Chinese students to American universities. Trump outlined on Truth Social that the US would apply tariffs totalling 55% on Chinese imports, while China would impose 10% in return. While the White House has emphasised the robustness of the new tariff structure, the finer points of the agreement remain hazy. US Treasury secretary Scott Bessent clarified that the deal did not involve a quid pro quo on US export restrictions of high-end AI chips in exchange for Chinese rare earths, suggesting limitations to the scope of the deal. Coin Bureau founder Nic Puckrin suggested the broader macroeconomic backdrop is more significant for crypto than the trade deal alone. 'Despite all the doom and gloom predictions, we're now nearly halfway through the year and the inflation genie remains contained in its bottle,' Puckrin said. 'Wednesday's CPI report confirms it, [US] inflation isn't as bad as everyone had feared, and risk assets will love this confirmation.' He added that the anticipated effects of US-China trade talks, including softer tariff policies, could help inflation continue to fall throughout the year. 'This is what will push bitcoin into the final leg of its rally for this cycle and, hopefully, finally bring retail investors back into the crypto market,' Puckrin said.
