4-star DL Preston Carey commits to Georgia football
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive lineman plays high school football for IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He's high school teammates with fellow Georgia class of 2026 commit safety Zech Fort and several other elite recruits.

247Sports ranks Carey as the No. 309 recruit in the country and the No. 36 defensive lineman. The IMG Academy standout is the No. 48 recruit in Florida.

Carey is Georgia's sixth defensive line commitment in the class of 2026. The four-star joins Corey Howard, PJ Dean, Carter Luckie, James Johnson and Seven Cloud as defensive line commitments. Georgia's defensive line coach Tray Scott has done a fantastic job of recruiting elite talent to UGA.
Carey has over 50 scholarship offers and prioritized a team having a plan for him and being able to develop him in his recruitment. Carey, who is from Long Island, New York, will look to be the next Georgia defensive lineman to be drafted.

Carey primarily plays defensive tackle in IMG Academy's 4-3 defensive scheme. He does a good job of shedding blockers and is a strong run defender. He has pass rushing upside and plays against a very high level of high school competition.

SAN FRANCISCO -- The son of two-time major champion John Daly was among 32 players who won their matches Wednesday in the first round of match play at the U.S. Amateur, where five of the top 10 amateurs in the world also advanced at The Olympic Club. John Daly II, a senior-to-be at Arkansas, had a scorecard that looked nothing like the 'wild thing' reputation of his famous father. Filip Jakubcik (No. 5) lost to Eric Lee in 19 holes. Other top-10 players from the amateur ranking to advance were Jace Summy (No. 7) and Christiaan Maas (No. 9). Tim Wiedenmeyer of Germany staged the biggest comeback. He lost five of the opening seven holes to Reed Greyserman and won his final four holes for a 2-and-1 victory. In one of the most roller-coaster matches of the opening round, the son of a former British golf writer rallied to beat the son of a Ryder Cup stalwart. James Cook returns to practice after sitting out in contract dispute: What we know
ORCHARD PARK - Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott would not get into the specifics, but he did say Tuesday morning that he expected running back James Cook to practice for the first time in more than a week. And sure enough, Cook was on the field when the Bills began their session on the fields behind the practice facility at One Bills Drive. McDermott 'expected' Cook to practice every day of the fourth-year player's hold in, but that of course did not happen, and Cook also skipped the Bills' preseason opener Saturday. He agreed to put on the uniform and go through the warmup, but he made it clear he was not playing as he continued his protest regarding his lack of a contract extension. But McDermott indicated that discussions over the weekend between the team and Cook's representation have pushed things in the direction of Cook getting back on the field. Whether that means a resolution to the contract situation is imminent is unknown. 'I would say so that things have changed,' McDermott said. 'We've had conversations with James, good conversations, as I've mentioned before. And the information that we're getting is that he is moving in the direction of practicing today. So, we'll see in a few minutes here, but that's the information we've got.' Asked whether Cook told him that directly, McDermott said, 'I don't think it's necessary to get into the weeds on it. The most important thing is that he's expected to practice, and I'm rather confident that that's going to happen.' Cook participated in the bulk of the practice including reps with the full team in 11-on-11, but when the session was done, he walked right past reporters without saying a word. Josh Allen said he understands Cook's situation, but it was still good to get him back. 'As players, we have to separate sometimes the business and the sport,' he said. 'I know both sides thought that what they're doing is the right thing. Obviously, we're very happy to have Jimbo out there today, and I trust in (Brandon) Beane and what he's going to get done. 'Just to have him out there and getting those reps and making sure that he's getting ready to go for game one, we had no doubts that he wouldn't be ready, but to be out there with the guys and sweating and battling in practice, I think it's good for the team.' Rays earn first road series win over Athletics in three years with 8-2 win
Brandon Lowe and Junior Caminero hit two-run home runs, Drew Rasmussen threw six innings and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Athletics 8-2 on Wednesday night. Lowe's second-inning home run off J.T. Ginn (2-5) — his 24th of the season — made it 6-0. Caminero homered in the ninth. Rasmussen (10-5) reached double-digit wins for the second time in his career, but saw his AL-best scoreless streak end at 17 1/3 innings when Lawrence Butler hit a two-run homer in the third. It was the first extra-base hit allowed by Rasmussen in his last four starts. Caminero, Josh Lowe, and Jake Mangum each had RBIs in the top of the first, and Mangum scored on a throwing error. Ginn allowed six hits and six runs — five earned — in two innings. Lowe's two-run homer to left center extended the Rays' lead. The Rays won their first road series against the A's since May 2-4, 2022, at the Oakland Coliseum. Both teams are off Thursday. The Athletics host the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night, with RHP Jack Perkins (1-2, 4.08) to to start opposite Los Angeles LHP Yusei Kikuchi (6-7, 3.37). The Rays are at San Francisco on Friday night. RHP Joe Boyle (1-2, 3.82) was set to face Giants RHP Landen Roup (7-6, 3.11).
