DWTS to feature male-male partnership?
'Dancing With The Stars' would consider an all-male partnership.
Back in 2021, JoJo Siwa and Jenna Johnson made history as the first same-sex pairing on the reality TV dance show and producers are keen to continue to 'push the envelope'.
Speaking about professional dancers Mark Ballas and Derek Hough, who performed a tango together on the show, executive producer Ryan O'Dowd told Deadline: 'It's great to do a dance like that in general, with the motivation behind it. Many people said to me they had no idea about the origins of the tango. And I had no idea that it did begin with two males. And so you've got to see an unbelievable performance, right? … I would say we are constantly looking at the ways by which we can push the envelope and produce a show that reflects and represents society as a whole. So I wouldn't rule it out. It's something that we're continuing to discuss.'
Ryan added that he loves to 'do things that have never been done before' on 'DWTS'.
He said: 'I love when we do things that have never been done before, like with Ilona Maher this past season became the first-ever female celebrity to lift her partner Alan Bursten. There was another moment when Whitney Carson and Danny Amendola had this very iconic leg lift. It's almost like a slow motion leg lift that became this massive viral sensation and people started trying to do it. I love when things are being done that go beyond the scope of the broadcast and into your everyday life.'
And, Ryan believes the live nature of the show is one of its best assets.
He said: 'I think live television is more important today than it ever has been. You're going to see a spectacle. With appointment television, anything can happen on any given night. Lights can go down, someone falls, an ankle monitor is revealed, you name it. Even we as producers don't know the outcome of anything that you're about to see. That's exciting and gets people talking. So I would really lean into that, along with the fact that we also don't have many pure entertainment formats that a family can watch. It's rare today that there's something for everyone. There's suspense each and every season.'
'Dancing With The Stars' is currently hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli as judges.

When you have kids in school, it's a hard thing to do [to uproot them]. 'So we are looking at all options to see what makes sense. But having a blended family does not make things easy.' Aside from young Zane, the blended family includes Green and former Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Vanessa Marcil's son Kassius, 23, as well as Green's other children Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11 and Journey, eight, with Megan Fox. Burgess, who is originally from Wagga Wagga in regional New South Wales, tells Stellar that their three-year-old son is the glue of the family. 'Having Zane has absolutely bonded everyone together,' Burgess said. 'I was always incredibly close with the kids as our relationship grew, but when Zane came along, it was like that piece locked in where they were, like, 'Oh, this is forever.'' Dancing With The Stars premieres at 7pm on June 15 on the Seven Network and 7Plus. Robert Irwin has ended up in "a scary place" after posing in his jocks. The 21-year-old conservationist - who is the is the son of late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin - recently stripped down to his boxers for a Bonds campaign but ahead of his appearance on Dancing With the Stars he admits he hasn't been reading his direct messages because of the viral reaction to the risque shoot. "I'm in a scary place right now. I've been kinda sorta avoiding the direct message section for a little bit," he told UsWeekly. "The last couple months have been very eye-opening, that's for sure. And I really thought in modelling Bonds underwear or doing Dancing With the Stars, that sort of thing, I could bring in a whole new audience to listen to my conservation message." Irwin hopes his upcoming stint on the dancing competition will bring his passion to a wider audience. "I definitely feel like I'm really lucky that now I've got a whole new audience that I can reach and hopefully just put out a bit of positivity," he said. "You just got to give it your all. And you've got to try as hard as you can to have a bit of fun." He says he's grateful to follow in the footsteps of his sister Bindi Irwin, who won the Mirrorball Trophy in 2015. "I mean she won Dancing With the Stars and just was such an incredible shining light. I remember watching [her] on that show just thinking, 'This is the coolest thing ever!'"
