The man behind the Chiefs' mascot, KC Wolf, retires
Dan Meers spent 35 years dressed in the costume and wearing the size 23 shoes while serving as the 'Director of Shenanigans.' He missed only three games and performed at multiple Super Bowls.
In all, Meers attended more than 10,000 total events across 38 states and 12 countries.
'I have countless stories,' Meers said, via Matt McMullen of the team website. 'In one word, it has been so joyful. I've learned a lot about the things we chase in life, and that those things aren't that important. Everybody is looking for joy, but they're looking in all the wrong spots. I learned a long time ago that the most important things in life aren't things, but relationships, and those relationships make for a pretty good life. I wouldn't trade it for anything.'
The team has not announced a replacement for Meers.

Patrick Mahomes Shares Heartfelt Message From Mom Randi Mahomes on Friday
Patrick Mahomes Shares Heartfelt Message From Mom Randi Mahomes on Friday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Kansas City Chiefs' training facility may have been closed for the holiday, but Randi Mahomes, mother of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, was busy documenting a calm family scene back home on Friday. Advertisement Her Instagram story showed four‑year‑old daughter Sterling Skye Mahomes and 13‑year‑old half‑sister Mia Randall together at the kitchen table. A former athlete herself, Randi married Pat Mahomes Sr., a longtime MLB pitcher, and helped raise three children, including Patrick, his brother Jackson and half-sister Mia. Patrick and wife Brittany have three children: Sterling Skye (4), Patrick "Bronze" III (2) and Golden Raye (6 months). Within hours, Patrick reposted it, with nothing more than a single, "❤️." Patrick Mahomes, InstagramPatrick Mahomes, Instagram After starring in three sports at Whitehouse High School and posting staggering numbers at Texas Tech (5,052 passing yards and 41 touchdowns in his junior year), Mahomes was selected 10th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. Advertisement Under coach Andy Reid, he has since become a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP, two-time NFL MVP, three-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15).Denny Medley-Imagn Images Mahomes also already holds numerous NFL records, including fastest to 30,000 career passing yards (103 games) and most total yards by a quarterback in a season (5,614 in 2022). Despite coming short of a historic three-peat last season, the Chiefs remain among the elite franchises in the NFL, with high hopes of competing for another Lombardi Trophy next season. Yet, with training camp still weeks away, this story momentarily shifts focus from trade winds, draft grades and preseason projections to simple family joy. Advertisement In a brief promotional clip, Kelce was seen sporting shorts with a "Stone Cold" Steven Austin t-shirt and a Cincinnati Bearcats hat as he addressed the audience through the camera, talking about the upcoming episode. "What's going on, everybody? TKELS here. Just got off the bus with the boys. Taylor and Will giving me some [expletive] about my Bearcats. August 28, baby. It's going [expletive] down. Make sure you check out this episode, though, man. We had some fun on the bus. Comes out this Tuesday." Brad Pitt Opens Up To Kelce Brothers About Life As A Chiefs Fan
Brad Pitt Opens Up To Kelce Brothers About Life As A Chiefs Fan originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brad Pitt is making the rounds. Yes, he's promoting a movie. But he's also a sports fan, and so a hang with the Kelce brothers makes perfect sense. "F1,'' the big-budget race car drama starring the Hollywood megastar Pitt, is already a massive hit after earning $55.6 million in its domestic opening weekend and an 'A' grade from CinemaScore. It's so big that Pitt, who plays a retired Formula 1 driver who makes a dramatic return to the track, now qualifies to be a guest on "New Heights.'' We're kidding, of course; Pitt is to film what Travis Kelce's girlfriend, Taylor Swift, is to music. And so, it is a gigantic get for the Kelce brothers' podcast. Brothers Jason and Travis Kelce first released the news in a video posted on Instagram in which Jason announced, 'Brad (expletive) Pitt is on the episode, ladies and gentlemen.'' This level of "big-shot-edness'' is becoming less and less surprising as the brothers — Jason a Philadelphia Eagles retired legend and Travis still going strong for the Super Bowl-contending Kansas City Chiefs — are growing in beyond-football celebrity status. Jason is now an ESPN guy who gets attention in so many of the right ways, most recently for his work with the Eagles Autism Foundation, which last weekend saw him strip down to his patriotic underwear for charity. And Travis is dovetailing with Taylor into the entertainment world, of course. Beside the podcast, there is his fifth annual Tight End University, which is suddenly a party scene, and his budding acting career, which includes a cameo in the upcoming "Happy Gilmore 2'' movie. And now there is a kinship with Pitt, who talks with the fellas about what it is like to be a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan. But to moviegoers? Brad Pitt hanging out with the fellas is next level, and you could tell by Travis' reaction to Jason's announcement. So ... the visit has occurred. And that Chiefs fandom was part of the conversation. Pitt, who was born in Oklahoma but grew up in Springfield, Missouri, has been on quite a ride with his team over the past decade or so, as have all fans of your Chiefs. And he really put it all into an eloquent package for the fellas. "You feel this sense of pride instead of, 'Life's always out against us,'" Pitt said. "So, it's kind of extraordinary the way we live through our teams, you guys and what it means to us." This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 3, 2025, where it first appeared.
