Evita revival eyes 2026 Broadway transfer with Rachel Zegler and Jamie Lloyd after London success

Express Tribune02-07-2025
Director Jamie Lloyd has revealed his desire to transfer the hit West End revival of Evita to Broadway as early as 2026, bypassing a previously considered 2027 timeline. Lloyd told Deadline that he's eager to act on the show's current momentum, following its electrifying run at the London Palladium starring Rachel Zegler in the title role.
Lyricist Tim Rice supports the fast-track move, noting, 'We're not getting any younger,' as he emphasized the urgency to bring the show to New York audiences. Producer Michael Harrison and Lloyd's team are already scouting potential Broadway theaters, though logistics such as road closures and sound limitations for the show's iconic balcony scene—performed live to crowds on the street—still need resolution.
In addition to critical acclaim, the production has drawn widespread public attention. The Act 2 moment where Zegler sings 'Don't Cry for Me Argentina' from the Palladium balcony to a live crowd has become a cultural flashpoint, elevating the show to must-see status in London. Lloyd emphasized the creative importance of the scene, calling it integral to the story's emotional arc.
Zegler, who received high praise from Andrew Lloyd Webber and Rice, expressed excitement about potentially reprising the role in her hometown. 'To do anything where you're from is a real gift,' she said. The show's cast—including Diego Andres Rodriguez as Che and James Olivas as Juan Perón—has been lauded for infusing youthful energy into the classic musical.
As buzz builds around a Broadway run, Evita is drawing new, younger audiences into the theater. With Zegler's rising star power and Lloyd's visionary staging, this revival is shaping up to be a defining moment for both the production and the performers.

Regina Hall and Anna Faris return in Wayans Brothers Scary Movie reboot with Miramax Paramount

Regina Hall and Anna Faris are officially reprising their roles as Brenda and Cindy in the upcoming Scary Movie reboot, according to Deadline. The comedy duo will reunite with Keenen, Shawn, and Marlon Wayans as the iconic spoof franchise gears up for its sixth installment. 'We can't wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we'd literally die for (in Brenda's case, again),' Hall and Faris shared in a joint statement. Their return comes as the Wayans Brothers team up for the first time in 18 years to co-write a new original script with Rick Alvarez for Miramax. Filming is scheduled to begin in October 2025, with Paramount handling a June 12, 2026 global theatrical release. Miramax currently holds a first-look deal with Paramount. Since its debut in 2000, the Scary Movie franchise has grossed nearly $900 million worldwide. The original film broke records at the time, setting a then–R-rated horror opening weekend record with $42.5 million. This new installment will be directed by Michael Tiddes, a longtime Wayans collaborator known for A Haunted House, Naked, and Sextuplets. Keenen Ivory Wayans will return as a producer, alongside Marlon and Shawn, who starred in and co-wrote the first two films. Hall's upcoming projects include Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Benicio Del Toro, slated for release on September 26. She is also starring in Judgment Day with Will Ferrell and Zac Efron, and lending her voice to The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants. Faris, meanwhile, will next appear in Spa Weekend. Following her breakout in Scary Movie, she went on to star in The House Bunny, Overboard, and the long-running sitcom Mom. She is also the author of the New York Times bestselling memoir Unqualified.

Blackpink's Lisa dramatises 'Dream'

Blackpink's Lisa has revealed she will release a short film inspired by her song "Dream," with Japanese actor and model Kentaro Sakaguchi in a starring role. The visualiser will offer fans a cinematic interpretation of the song, she said in her social media post, revealing the project, "An emotional, beautiful story that will soon be yours," Lisa wrote. The announcement has generated anticipation among fans worldwide, many of whom are eager to see the collaboration between the K-pop star and the acclaimed Japanese performer. The news comes after weeks of fan speculation, sparked by a series of online interactions and public sightings linking the two. On August 4, Lisa posted an image to Lloud's official X account and her Instagram showing her playfully biting someone's arm while surrounded by a production crew. Speculation grew when fans noted his attendance at Blackpink's recent Deadline tour stop in Korea, as well as his appearance alongside Lisa in a popular TikTok video earlier this year. "Dream" originally appeared as the 13th track on Lisa's debut album Alter Ego, released on February 28 and the short film is set to release on August 13. Lisa is currently performing alongside her Blackpink bandmates on the 'Deadline' World Tour. The group's next stop is a two-day engagement at Wembley Stadium in London on August 15 and 16, before heading to the Philippines. Blackpink, meanwhile, is rumoured to be making a November comeback with a new extended play (EP). A music industry insider told Soompi that the four-member group has completed recording tracks for the project and finished a promotional photo shoot. Originally slated for release in October, the EP's launch was reportedly moved to November. In response to the speculation, Blackpink's agency YG Entertainment neither confirmed nor denied the timing. "We will announce it later through official promotions," the company said in a statement quoted by Soompi. If the release goes ahead, it will be the group's first multi-track project since their 2022 album Born Pink. Their most recent music drop was the digital single Jump, released in July. The rumoured comeback aligns with Blackpink's ongoing Deadline world tour, which will bring them to the Philippine Arena in November for a two-day run. The timing has fuelled fan excitement, as it could coincide with the potential EP launch. Known for their record-breaking releases and global influence, Blackpink has consistently delivered high-profile comebacks. Their last full-length effort, Born Pink, achieved international chart success and solidified their position as one of K-pop's leading acts.
