Tejasvi Surya slams K'taka govt over Rs 10 lakh compensation for kin of Pahalgam attack victims
Addressing a press conference here, the BJP MP expressed deep disappointment over the 'paltry Rs 10 lakh compensation' announced by the state government for the families of the terror attack victims.
Manjunath Rao and Bharath Bushan were among the 26 people killed in front of their families after confirming their religious identity in Kashmir's Pahalgam on Tuesday. Most of those killed by terrorists were tourists.
Bengaluru, Apr 28 (PTI) BJP leader Tejasvi Surya on Monday slammed the Karnataka government for announcing Rs 10 lakh compensation for the families of the Pahalgam terror attack victims and called it 'shameful' for not considering adequate support for the survivors.
Both women are single mothers supporting young children and need urgent help to educate and secure their future, he said.
'When Karnataka Government could award a compensation of Rs 15 lakh after a man was trampled to death by an elephant in Rahul Gandhi's previous constituency in Wayanad, it's shameful that it is not even considering a suitable compensation for the survivors of the terror attack,' he said.
In solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, the BJP MP said that the Hindu society of Bengaluru South today came forward to support the families of Manjunath Rao and Bharat Bhushan, on his appeal.
According to him, Rs 10,00,001 each is being given to both families. Rs 1 more than the amount announced by the 'insensitive Siddaramaiah led government. A total support of Rs 20,00,002.
'SSMRV College under RV Trust will fully sponsor the degree education of Shri Manjunath Rao's meritorious son, who secured 97 per cent in his II PU. Meanwhile, Transcend Group of Institutions will provide complete free education for Shri Bharat Bhushan's son from Grade 1 to Grade 12 – ensuring the best education for both children,' he said.
He cited that Shree Bhagwaan Mahaveer Jain Hospital has come forward to provide complete medical care for the mother and child of the victims families for the next 11 years.
'I appeal to Hindu-run institutions and organisations to come forward and extend support to the affected families in their respective states.
It is our collective responsibility to stand by members of our community in this hour of need,' he added.
Surya, who is also Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha national president, wondered how Congress' 'pseudo- secularism' prevents it from acknowledging the clear religious motive behind the attack on Hindus.
'Even Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM president) admitted that terrorists asked for religion before killing — yet Congress continues to stay in denial,' he said.
Condemning the statement made by Karnataka Excise Minister R B Thimmapur on the recent terror attack, the BJP leader said that the 'shameful' statements of Minister show to what extent Congress can stoop for vote bank politics.
On Saturday, Minister Thimmapur had claimed that the perpetrators of the attack in Pahalgam would not have asked the name and the religion of victims and said, 'It is unfair to target a particular religion over the attack.' PTI AMP ROH

Bulldozers raze four mazars in Katarniaghat
Lucknow/Bahraich: In an anti-encroachment operation, the forest department in 's Bahraich district demolished four shrines — Lakkadshah, Bhawarshah, Chamanshah and Shahenshah — located within the forested core zone of the Katarniaghat wildlife sanctuary under the Murtiha forest range. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The action was taken after those claiming ownership failed to provide valid documentation establishing legal possession of the land. Divisional forest officer (DFO), B Shivshankar said the structures were encroaching upon ecologically sensitive land inhabited by protected wildlife, including tigers. "A notice for eviction was served earlier. The only document produced by the caretakers was dated 1986, and they failed to prove any legal rights to the land prior to that year," he DFO said that the matter had been pending in court for years and that the verdict recently came in the forest department's favour. Following the legal clearance, authorities issued multiple notices to the parties concerned asking them to remove the encroachments voluntarily. However, when they failed to comply, a late-night demolition drive was launched. More than half-a-dozen bulldozers were deployed for the overnight operation, which razed all four shrines. Debris from the demolished structures is also being cleared swiftly, the forest department Lakkadshah dargah, in particular, was a well-known religious site believed to be several centuries old. It hosted an annual fair during the Hindu month of Jyeshtha, which attracted large crowds, both Hindu and Muslim. However, forest department prohibited fair this year, citing ecological concerns. "The site lies in the core zone of the sanctuary, home to several endangered species. Any human activity, let alone permanent structures, threatens the delicate ecosystem," Shivshankar added. President of the shrine management committee, Rais Ahmad expressed dismay over the action. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "The fair held here each year is a symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity, with over 60% of the visitors being Hindus. For decades, even the forest department used to issue tenders and collect fees for stalls during the fair. Now, they are suddenly declaring these structures illegal," he said. Rais alleged that department's earlier involvement in the annual fair undermines its current claims of encroachment. "What changed now? The same authorities that once facilitated the fair are now demolishing the very site they supported," he questioned. Officials said the forest area has been declared a critical tiger habitat, making it a highly sensitive and protected ecosystem. The encroachments were reportedly labelled as ancient waqf properties by local committees, who cited waqf property number 108. However, their claims were rejected during the

Tai Ahoms protest delay in ST status, threaten BJP boycott in 2026 polls
1 2 Dibrugarh: Hundreds of members of the Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad, Assam (TAYPA) took to the streets in Dibrugarh on Monday, demanding the immediate grant of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Tai Ahom community. The protestors, carrying placards and banners, marched to the district commissioner's office, raising slogans against the Central govt for the prolonged delay in fulfilling their long-standing demand. TAYPA president Diganta Tamuli, leading the demonstration, expressed deep frustration over the govt dilly-dallying over the ST issue and issued a stark warning to the ruling BJP ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. "For over a decade, we have been waiting for the BJP to honour its promise. The Tai Ahom community will not tolerate this betrayal any longer. If our demand is not met soon, the Tai Ahoms will boycott the BJP en masse in the 2026 Assembly elections," Tamuli said. Tamuli's warning carries substantial political weight, given the Tai Ahom community's numerical strength and historical influence in Assam's electoral landscape. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 75% off installation for LeafFilter LeafFilter Gutter Protection Learn More The community's support has been crucial for the BJP's electoral success in the state. "The Tai Ahoms are a significant voting bloc in the state, and their support can make a difference in the upcoming elections. If the BJP government continues to ignore us, they will face the consequences in 2026," the TAYPA president added. The roots of the current agitation trace back to 2014, when the BJP promised ST status to six ethnic communities during the Lok Sabha election campaign. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had assured the communities of ST recognition during his campaign rallies in Assam. However, more than a decade later, the promise remains unfulfilled, leading to mounting frustration among the affected communities. The ST demand encompasses six ethnic groups currently classified as Other Backward Classes (OBC): the Tai Ahoms, Mottocks, Koch Rajbongshis, Sooteas, Morans, and Tea Tribes. These communities argue that ST status would provide them with better access to educational opportunities, government employment, and political representation through enhanced reservation benefits. Monday's demonstration concluded with TAYPA leaders submitting a detailed memorandum to Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi, addressed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The memorandum urged immediate action on their long-standing demand.

We've pushed back 330 illegal foreigners, none of them has returned: Assam CM
Guwahati, June 9 (UNI) Iterating the BJP-led Assam government's stern stand on Bangladeshi citizens entering or living in India illegally, state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday informed the Assembly that the government has pushed back almost 330 such unauthorised foreigners, and none of them has returned. 'It is not possible for them to return, and we are firm on this. And this pushback will be intensified, it will be expedited. The way illegal immigrants have entered the state from Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have to be more proactive to keep the state safe," said Sarma. The Chief Minister was replying to a demand by opposition members, including Congress' Debabrata Saikia and AIUDF's Ashraful Hussain to discuss on the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC). While raising the issue, Saikia said that while the government has claimed to have pushed back illegal foreigners, some of them again entered Assam, making the government's stand vague on the issue. The Chief Minister further informed the House that the state government has also decided to reinforce the Illegal (Expulsion from Assam) Act 1950. "Under the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950, the District Commissioner, if he is reasonably convinced that a certain individual is a foreigner, can remove that individual without referring a case to the Tribunal," he said. The Chief Minister said the government has taken inspiration from former Chief Minister Bimala Prasad Chaliha, who had pushed back illegal immigrants. 'We are taking inspiration from the good works of the Congress,' he said while referring to Chaliha, who was a Congress Chief Minister. "There are two ways to identify illegal immigrants in Assam — one is the Tribunal and the other is the Illegal Expulsion Act 1950. There the word 'push back'is not there, but 'remove' is there," he added Expressing his concern over the issue, the Chief Minister further said that the government has found out almost 2600 Facebook accounts, which were operated from Islamabad, Riyadh and Saudi Arab. "They don't even welcome Rahul Gandhi, but welcome one particular individual from Assam. And I have documents, within the next ten to 12 days I'll provide some information about such accounts to the press,' he said. 'These accounts post only on two occasion, either on Palestine or on Assam, nothing else. I am not saying that the Muslims of Assam are not indigenous. Indigenous is a secular definition. ... There is a big conspiracy and we must resist it through the process of law,' he added. UNI ANP SSP
