Kuwait Announces Power Cuts in 51 Areas
The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced the implementation of planned power cuts in 51 areas, including residential, industrial, and agricultural zones after the country's power consumption index surged into the red zone, reaching 16,393 megawatts on Wednesday morning.
This represented a sharp increase from Tuesday's 16,030 megawatts, as thermometers across the country hovered around a blistering 50 degrees Celsius.
The decision introduces what may become a regular feature of Kuwaiti summers, with soaring temperatures and aging infrastructure combining to create volatile energy demand.
'These outages are necessary to maintain the stability of the electrical system during periods of peak consumption,' the ministry said in a statement.
The affected areas include three agricultural zones, Wafra, Rawdatain, and Abdally farms, and five industrial zones: Mina Abdullah, Subhan, Sulaibiya, Al Rai, and Shuwaikh. Additionally, power cuts will impact 43 residential areas, including Salam, Abu Futaira, Jleeb Al Shuyoukh, Jaber Al Ahmad, Rawda, Salmiya, Ras Al Ardh, Al Shaab Al Bahri, Maidan Hawally, Jaber Al Ali, Andalusia, West Abdullah Al Mubarak, Sulaibiya Industrial Area, part of Sulaibiya Residential Area, Faihaa, Firdous, Al Dhaher, Al Naseem, Al Daiya, Al Jazeera Al Khadraa, Abdullah Al Salem, Sabah Al Nasser, Shuhada, Abdullah Al Mubarak, Egaila, Fintas, the coastal strip from Abu Halifa Roundabout, Al Masayel, Saad Al Abdullah, Hittin, Ardiya, Funaitees, Al Qasr, Hadiya, Shuwaikh, Shamiya, Jaber Al Ali, Surra, Mahboula, Farwaniya, Al Raqga, part of Al Rai, and Northwest Sulaibikhat.

Kuwait Extends Private Driving Licence Validity
Kuwait has extended the validity of private driving licence to 15 years for Kuwaitis and GCC citizens, and five years for expatriate residents, Al Anba Arabic daily reported. Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, issued a ministerial decision extending the validity of driving licence for both citizens, GCC nationals and expatriate residents, marking a significant change to the country's licencing rules. Under the new regulations, the validity of licences for expatriates has been increased to five years, up from three. Licences for Kuwaiti citizens and Gulf nationals will now be valid for 15 years instead of 10. For stateless residents, the licence term will remain tied to the validity of their identification documents. The duration of licences for Kuwaitis had traditionally been 10 years, while for expatriates it was reduced at one point to a single year. Several months ago, Sheikh Fahad Al Sabah extended expatriate licence validity to three years, the new announcement pushes it to five years with immediate effect. Kuwait maintains strict conditions for expatriates seeking a driving licence, including a requirement to hold a university degree. Kuwait Work Visa Scam Uncovered, 3 Arrested
In its latest crackdown on human trafficking and visa fraud, Kuwait's Ministry of Interior has dismantled a work visa scam involving a Kuwaiti national who allegedly exploited his legal authority to profit from the illegal registration of expatriate workers. The Kuwaiti citizen is accused of running visa-for-cash scheme through dozens of shell companies, according to Al Qabas Arabic daily. The operation, uncovered in coordination with the General Department of Residence Affairs Investigations, revealed a complex network involving 25 companies and four affiliated businesses under the control of a single individual. The main suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was authorised to sign on behalf of these firms, a privilege he allegedly used to register foreign workers under false pretences and sell residency permits. Officials said the scheme came to light following a tip-off. Investigators found that 56 workers had been registered under the companies, including several who had violated Kuwait's residency laws and visa regulations. Among them were individuals who were either working for entities not listed as their sponsors or had overstayed or breached the terms of their permits. When summoned for questioning, the accused admitted to accepting payments ranging from KD350 ($1,137) to KD1,200 in exchange for arranging visas and work permits. He confessed to working through two intermediaries — a Syrian and an Indian — who helped facilitate the transactions, despite the workers not being employed by the companies sponsoring their residency. Authorities say the case highlights the persistent challenges posed by visa trafficking in the country and underscores ongoing efforts to tighten oversight of corporate licencing as well as residency and work permits. The Ministry of Interior reiterated its commitment to enforcing the law and holding accountable those who exploit the labour system for personal gain.

UAE Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Reported Over Dubai, Al Ain And Al Dhafra
The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) reported rain over Al Ain this afternoon. According to the NCM, light to heavy rain was reported over Margham, Al Qudra, Saih Al Salem and Al Lisailli in Dubai. Moderate to heavy rain was also reported over Al Faqa, Um Al Zumoul and over Khatm Al Shiklah in Al Ain. The NCM also issued an orange and yellow alert for convective clouds over parts of the country including Al Ain and Al Dhafra region. Residents in these regions can expect rainfall to continue today, despite an increase in temperatures. The NCM forecast also states there will be a slight increase in temperatures today. The highest temperature recorded today was 49.8 degrees Celsius in Saih Al Salam, Dubai, despite rainfall in the region. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature recorded today was 26.5 degrees Celsius in Al Farfar, Fujairah. The NCM also issued an alert advising residents to take precautions during these weather conditions. The alert states, 'Precautions should be taken during strong convective cloud activity associated with rainfall and strong descending wind over some internal areas.' 'Loose objects and weak structures may become hazardous due to the strong winds and can reduce horizzontal visibility, please stay away from areas of accumulated rain.' Humid conditions are forecast to continue tonight and on Tuesday, July 22, over some coastal and internal areas with a probability of mist formation. Light to moderate winds can be expected today across th3e country, with speeds reaching up to 40 km/hr.
