Indian High Commission celebrates International Day of Yoga in Dhaka

Dhaka [Bangladesh], June 21 (ANI): High Commission of India celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga on Saturday in Dhaka.
Speaking on the occasion, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma noted that Yoga has become a way of life for millions around the world, with Yoga connecting them across borders, cultures and beliefs.
High Commissioner said that Yoga's universality was captured in this year's theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' which symbolized Yoga's role as a connector between individual wellness and global sustainability.
He noted, 'As we commemorate this year's International Day of Yoga, we are reminded of the enduring bonds of cultural affinity between our two countries, their strong historical and people-to-people ties, and their relationship founded on the shared sacrifices during Bangladesh's Liberation War of 1971'. High Commissioner hoped that Yoga will be yet another unifying bond between the peoples of the two countries in their shared pursuit of wellness and harmony.
In her remarks, Director of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre Ann Mary George said that this was the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga. It was in September 2014 that the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi proposed declaring an International Day of Yoga during his address at the United Nations General Assembly. Soon afterwards, in December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly, by consensus, declared June 21 to be celebrated as the International Day of Yoga every year.
The event included participation by a large number of Yoga enthusiasts fromBangladesh who participated in a practice session based on the Common Yoga Protocol. Many prominent Yoga institutions of Bangladesh also presented Yoga demonstrations highlighting the benefits of Yoga. Senior Yoga practitioners over the age of 70 were felicitated at the event.
Besides Yoga enthusiasts and institutions, the event was attended by a number of eminent cultural personalities, artists, media persons, professionals, scholars and youths of Bangladesh. (ANI)

Our goal is to build a healthy, self-reliant, skilled, and empowered Odisha," said Majhi at the state-level celebration of 11th International Yoga Day at Kalinga Stadium here. Addressing a gathering of nearly 15,000 participants, including ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior officials, and public, Majhi said yoga is not just a form of physical exercise, but a holistic discipline that unites the body, mind, and soul. "Although it originated from Indian culture and yogic traditions, it is not tied to any specific religion. Yoga, is embraced today by people of all races, religions, and castes," he said. Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan participated in yoga sessions on Samaleswari Temple premises and on the banks of the Mahanadi in Sambalpur. The 11th International Yoga Day was also celebrated at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, where officials from various agencies participated under the leadership of its director, Prasanna Pradhan. A special yoga session was organised to mark International Yoga Day at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. "AIIMS Bhubaneswar has been exploring the therapeutic potential of yoga across various medical disciplines," said Dr Ashutosh Biswas, executive director. Among others, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) district headquarters, Odisha, and other ICG units at Paradip organised yoga sessions with NCC cadets, fishing communities, CISF jawans, and school and college students. NCC cadets from educational institutions in and around Cuttack also practised yoga at Silver City Boat Club.

Punjab AAP president Aman Arora performed yoga at an event in Sangrur. A yoga event was held at the joint check post in Attari, Amritsar, and BSF Punjab inspector-general Atul Fulzele was the chief guest. More than 1,100 participants, including BSF personnel, Army officials, students, local dignitaries, and residents of border villages joined the event. In Himachal Pradesh, governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said yoga was not related to any religion, but a holistic approach to health and consciousness. "People across the world have adopted yoga for physical health and now increasingly for spiritual awakening. Yoga is not just about physical postures; it is also about awakening and awareness," he said. A session was organised at Raj Bhavan in Shimla, where Shukla performed yoga along with other participants. Himachal Pradesh chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also performed yoga at his residence, Oak Over. He described yoga as "a scientific and spiritual path related to the totality of life". The day-long celebrations, anchored around the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health", reflected Jharkhand's growing commitment to holistic wellness and mental peace. At the city's central venue, Birsa Munda Fun Park, hundreds joined the grand yoga practice session led by health minister Irfan Ansari. "Yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a lifestyle rooted in Indian tradition. In these times of stress, yoga provides mental clarity and physical strength," he said, adding that chief minister Hemant Soren envisions a "Swasth Jharkhand" and yoga is a cornerstone in that direction. He highlighted that nearly 1,000 trained yoga instructors are active in Jharkhand's 745 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and emphasised the govt's plans to build Dhanvantari AYUSH hospitals in Ranchi and East Singhbhum. The state is also running yoga training for students in classes 6–12. "If every citizen devotes even a few minutes daily to yoga, the result will be a healthier society," said Ansari. At Raj Bhavan, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar joined schoolchildren and staff for a yoga session inside the Birsa Mandap. "Yoga is India's unique gift to the world. It harmonizes the body, mind, and soul," he said, noting PM Modi's global contribution in institutionalizing Yoga Day. The Institute of Hotel Management, Ranchi, concluded its week-long yoga celebration with a vibrant campus session. In Ranchi University, NSS and the School of Yoga organized a dynamic event featuring over 400 students. Corporate sectors weren't left behind. CMPDI held yoga sessions across all its regional units and telecasted the PM's address.
