PETALING JAYA: Desaru Coast's introduction of premium yachting experiences marks a strategic enhancement to its luxury tourism portfolio – an initiative welcomed by Minor International, a global leader in hospitality and real estate.
Following a landmark agreement between Desaru Coast and ONE°15 Marina, a premier luxury waterfront marina based in Singapore, Malaysia's leading integrated resort destination is poised for a strategic expansion of its maritime infrastructure and high-end charter services.
As a premier leisure and lifestyle hub, Desaru Coast spans 4,000 acres along the southern coastline of Johor, featuring luxury resorts, championship golf courses, a waterpark, premium residences – including Anantara Desaru Coast Residences – and a ferry terminal connecting it to Singapore.
Through the new partnership, ONE°15 Marina Desaru Coast will manage both wet and dry berths at the Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal, introducing curated sailing activities for visitors and reinforcing Desaru Coast's appeal to both holidaymakers and investors.
The initiative reflects increasing investor confidence in Desaru Coast. It also highlights the strengthening economic ties between Singapore and Johor, supported by the upcoming Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), where Desaru Coast has been identified as a flagship development area.
With a focus on cutting-edge industries, the zone is expected to create 20,000 skilled jobs within its first five years and facilitate the expansion of 50 projects, driving demand for premium real estate.
Strategically located within Desaru Coast, Minor International's Anantara Desaru Coast Residences is well positioned to capitalise on the momentum from the JS-SEZ development and the launch of premium yachting experiences, delivering an exceptional lifestyle proposition for discerning homeowners and visitors alike.
'With exclusive access to premium marina facilities and curated sailing experiences, residents and visitors alike can enjoy world-class hospitality, blending refined living with dynamic maritime adventures. This partnership has the potential to attract luxury segment customers, both international and local, to our property,' Minor International's chief operating officer of lifestyle and real estate, Micah Tamthai, said in a statement.
The initiative aligns with Desaru Coast's long-term strategy to enhance tourism infrastructure by leveraging existing assets such as the ferry terminal. Additionally, the partnership is expected to enhance maritime access, further solidifying Desaru Coast's position as a premier gateway for exclusive seaborne travel and leisure experiences.

‘Political developments are normal': Umno-PKR unity intact despite Tengku Zafrul exit, says Johari Ghani

BATU PAHAT, May 31 — Umno's cooperation with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) within the unity government remains intact despite Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz's resignation from the party, said Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. Johari, who is Umno vice-president, said both parties must remain united in their efforts to ensure the country's political stability. 'For example, in government, I play a role in national development as a minister. Political developments are normal, but they should not affect the strength of our coalition within the unity government and the country,' he said. He was speaking to reporters after officiating the Madani Adopted Village (KAM) programme handover ceremony for the Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) at Kampung Parit Bilal here today. Yesterday, Tengku Zafrul, who is Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, announced his resignation as an Umno Supreme Council member, Kota Raja division chief and party member. On today's programme, Johari, who is also Plantation and Commodities Minister, said a total of RM2.5 million has been allocated to Kampung Parit Bilal and Kampung Parit Ahmad under the KPK Madani Adopted Village initiative. The funds will go toward implementing various development projects, including upgrading educational facilities, houses of worship and basic infrastructure, he said. He said the initiative also involves strategic cooperation with relevant ministries and agencies, the Batu Pahat district office, Johor state development office, village development and security committees (JPKK) and local community leaders. 'Among the activities planned are entrepreneurship training, such as chocolate-making courses and outreach programmes under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) MyCommodity initiative,' Johari added. — Bernama

Malaysia eyes Middle East tourists with 'Brunei+' travel package

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is set to deepen its tourism ties with Middle Eastern nations by adopting a proven strategy pioneered by Royal Brunei Airlines, says Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing. He highlighted the success of the airline's "Brunei + Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu" model, which offers travellers a complimentary overnight stay in Brunei before continuing on to destinations such as Kuala Lumpur or Kota Kinabalu. The initiative has received encouraging market response and was recently expanded to include Kuching. "Given the strong reception, we are planning to replicate this model for the Middle Eastern and Indian markets, in partnership with Royal Brunei Airlines, to draw more international tourists to our shores," he said in a statement. Tiong said that during the 2025 Arabian Travel Market, he and Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy held talks with Royal Brunei Airlines' UAE regional manager, Jalal Sanour Rahman. The discussions resulted in a preliminary agreement to adapt the "Brunei+" model specifically for the UAE market. The new travel package will target the 4.5 million Indian expatriates residing in the UAE, offering a seven-day, six-night itinerary that includes Brunei and Malaysia. Tourism Malaysia will sponsor a one-night stay in Kota Kinabalu or Kuching as part of the package. "Our target is to attract at least one million Indian expatriates from the UAE to visit both countries. I hope to finalise this package by year-end in support of our target to welcome 45 million international tourists under Visit Malaysia 2026," he added. To support promotional activities, Tiong said that Tourism Malaysia would offer 30 familiarisation trip slots to Royal Brunei Airlines, enabling its representatives to explore key attractions across various Malaysian states. The familiarisation trip is tentatively scheduled for September or October, with the itinerary to be confirmed by the end of August. In addition, he proposed that Royal Brunei Airlines consider expanding its network through more connecting routes, including direct flights from Dubai to Brunei with onward connections to Peninsular Malaysia destinations such as Melaka, Johor, Pahang, and Perak. These routes, he said, could be introduced via codeshare agreements or chartered flights, strengthening the positioning of Malaysia and Brunei as joint gateways for regional tourism. "This approach — where travellers arrive via Brunei and depart from Malaysia — also supports the growth of the Muslim-friendly tourism segment between our two countries," he said, adding that his ministry would work closely with the Transport Ministry to facilitate approvals for any new flight routes.
